I came here to say the same thing. Roger is indisputably the GOAT, and to me this match proves that Marcelo is the lb4lb GOAT.
Marcelo would have had a better record if he didn't fight in the absolute every fucking tournament. but he didn't care about his record, he cared about fighting the best guys in the world regardless of their size.
It's not MMA to care about record

I was lucky enough to train with Marcelo for 8 years and even though it doesn’t look it with roger, Marcelo’s pressure is crazy and his strength. I will never forget those two things. It was a great time training with him back then. Real gentleman. Btw, great commentary.

Old school is cool to watch when you have athletes like those going at it : legends that are all about sub hunting rather than points scoring. Obviously Roger and Marcelo are prime example. And Terere for relentless & beautiful guard passing.

Awesome break down. And I think your right about old vs modern bjj. Actually it seems to be the case with a number of sports. Like there is a sweet spot period for when a sport is producing its greatest matches, then things seem to get screwy in different ways. Tennis, Chess, Judo are some that spring to mind.
I am 5'7 even smaller than Marcelo. I feel your pain homie.
If Marcelo had more of a leg lock game, I think Roger/tall guys would be vulnerable
It looked like Marcelo's legs a little short to pull his regular moves. He also had to move extra weight, which makes you more tired 😩. I guess that's why we have weight classes in combat sports.
