It’s an easy fix for but it does not explain how I can do an easy fix with no shims as the saddle is missing and I have to start from scratch with no reference point can you a video on the complete process using hand tools verniers and tuning with a blank please thanks
I removed all the shims but it's still high, shaving the saddle from the top is pretty much impossible since it's shaped in a very specific manner (GN10CE) I'm thinking of selling it tbh since there are no luthiers in my country
I took the plastic slides off but also shaved the saddle and now it won’t pick up anything. Is there something I can do? I’m thinking of just buying replacement saddles and seeing if that fixes my problem
@@Edwin-E I heated the saddle by hair dryer & pull it. Maybe I should let it cool off for awhile before pulling it. I'm not sure if the saddle was made of plastic or bone & it was broken in to 2 pieces. Good that I have a new one here that I bought from ebay & I was able to replace it, adjusted the height according to the standard strings height on the 12th fret & it sounds way better than before & easy to press the strings.
I don't think it will affect much the intonation, althoug it will help a little bit since there will be less stretch on the strings when pressing on the fret board.
I just got a Takamine Electric/acoustic G series model GN 11MCE - NS. I’m trying to find out what material the saddle and nut are made of, plastic or bone 🦴 ? Before I take it apart and lower the saddle 🤔
Normally they are plastic but I am not really sure on yours. Just be careful for electric acoustic guitar, the saddle sits on a piece of metal which is also the pickup. The saddle is not just flat shape, it follows the shape with the slots on the metal.
@@Edwin-E December 28 2021. 😊 Thanks for your reply. 😉 I'm hoping someone will have the same guitar and be able to tell me. 🤔 I guess I'll just wait and see what I find when I open it up next week. 😬 Very carefully. 😃
Can you just remove the metal brace thing and what ever under the saddle slot and just put a regular saddle in? I have a Takamine GN10CE NS with a quite crappy stock softplastic saddle, it's getting on my nerve. Ps: that metal brace thing might be under-bridge piezo pickup. I'm not sure.
that metal under the saddle is the pickup. If you remove it then, you just have an acoustic guitar. I also do not like it. It is not easy to replace the saddle due to shape of the metal holder.
@@Edwin-E Is there a piezo pickup for normal straight saddle that you can install on a g series tho? Man I'm really in trouble over here. I found a shop in the UK that make custom milled bone saddle for this particular type of takamine but they won't ship it to my location.
too bad takamine doesn't include an extra saddle when u buy a guitar, unlike other guitar brands. and JB music doesn't sell replacement parts of takamine :/
Under my Takamine bass was one shim and even though it was about 1.5 mm, I could feel the difference. However, it occurred to me that maybe that (and those) strip(s) are shields for the copper (I assume) conductor for the pick up?
As far as I know, the purpose of those plastic is for adjustment of action. Because, it really depends on the users what action they prefer on their guitars.
not really, they place it there so that the guitar owner has the option to lower the saddle height in case they don't want the existing height from the factory.
@@brandongonzalez1264 I recently bought a Takamine gn51ce. Were there any shimps under the split saddle? I need to lower the action, otherwise I'll end up seeling it. Thanks in advance!

My Takamine does not have shims so how do I know how much to remove from the saddle and how do you know the specifications and height to ensure you are removing the right amount so I do not get buzzing
I cant shave the bottom of my saddle because it sits on the piezo same as yours. If I shave the top of the saddle I'm afraid I'm might ruin the intonation. :-(

I am not sure how you can get the shape back. Normally for this time of saddle, I think, you need to lower it on the top part. The best is order a new one.
What a discovery, i just bought a takamine and instantly searched for a video like this. Very helpfull, thanks man
Glad I could help! Enjoy your new guitar.
Exactly what I needed for my guitar! Thank you for posting.

make sure that the cable to the pickup is not broken.
So double the action excess @12th fret to determine how much to remove on Bridge?
that's right
u saved the day man!!!!!!!!!!!

Edwin have you tried removing Jasmine (Takamine) acoustic guitar saddle before? I'm afraid the saddle was glued.
I never tried one before.

How do I lower the action when I don’t have spacers under the saddle to remove and the saddle is flush with timber holder
In case you have no choice but to shave the saddle. I just do it from top, I follow the saddle radius and compensation.
@@Edwin-E The other option is to make the groove in the bridge deeper. You need a Dremel type tool and a jig.
Unfortunately eg320c does not have that shims:(
Can i change the split saddle with the non split saddle one?
Saddles have specific slot on the bridge, so if they are split, then you cannot fit a full saddle on the split slots.

hello when i put back the strings and everything the tuner is no longer working. Could it be because i need to put in the small plastic peices?
Maybe the saddle is not flat with the pickup.
matanong ko lang po kaya po ba gawan ng bone saddle na ganyan din po sa ilalim na pag lagyang ng pick up ??
mahirap yata. Baka hindi ma-balance ang tunog.

Do you think that this would apply to all of their acoustic guitar and bass designs? Are there 3 thin sheets under all of their bridges?
not at all. In some other guitars, I needed to sand down the saddle.
Under my Takamine bass was one shim and even though it was about 1.5 mm, I could feel the difference. However, it occurred to me that maybe that (and those) strip(s) are shields for the copper (I assume) conductor for the pick up?

Who sells a saddle for D series dragon Takamine pleas
I'm not sure if Takamine sells those. Otherwise, you need to shave it to shape yourself.
