I'm a 64 year gay man. I cried the 1 st time I heard this song, and Everytime since. For the wonderful Matthew Shepard, you were taken away from us way to soon. May you always rest in peace, our beautiful friend. We will always miss you and love you.

We must forgive, and be better than those that hate us without even knowing us, but if we allow ourselves to forget how recently and needlessly this occurred, we risk the tragedy being repeated.
We can’t live in a state of fear or hate, but even in Chicago, in a predominantly gay friendly neighborhood, it was only a couple years ago a gay man was beaten up at the gas station across the street from a police station (no one was ever charged). As grateful as I am for the strides we’ve made in acceptance and equal rights, it can all too quickly slip away if we get too complacent or comfortable. There are still far too many people who consider being gay a choice and/or a sin and consider us second class citizens.
Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now.

The song is on her album Breakdown, it should not be too hard to find. I also really like the song Into the Dark from that album.

I just watched another video (Hozier’s “Take Me to Church”), and somebody had the audacity to say, “Gay hate crimes don’t happen in the US anymore”.
There will always be haters in the world, but we can't let them win.

Serious problem with synchronization. Would be better with just photo shot stills instead of live video. Either that or remove the audio all together..

I live in Laramie. The lgbtq community has still not healed from the murder of Matthew. Probably never will.
