    I just wanted to say Thank God for these videos! I have been using the Duolingo app to learn Swedish but it's only really taught me how to read the language. These videos may be the difference between my learning Swedish words and how to actually use them to talk! These video's have really helped me understand the language more quickly. So to anyone who reads these comments before they watch the video... I recommend Erik Edler's lessons. Tack Erik! Jag pratar lite svenska!

    I’m really enjoying your videos. My husband speaks Swedish to my kids, so I like to listen to your videos to supplement my learning of Swedish.

    I have tried several teachers and I like the way you explain it. I am attempting to learn swedish in attempt to save my memory, stimulate my brains. I find understanding german is a great help and some of our UK words have obviously come from the nordic languages.

    Car: Bil? How can I ever remember THAT? I checked the etymology and it says its a "clipping" of automoBIL. Easy! I can remember that! Stol: Chair?? German Stuhl, English Stool. If you can follow the etymology, it becomes a lot easier! Woman: en kvinna. Queen? Girl: flicka??? (wictionary) it stems from Norwegian flikkja, "light-hearted or irresponsible woman", and flikkja, "hussy; tramp; slut". English cognate: "flake"? Even if it isn't right, that does make it more memorable. I love to see the common roots between the languages I know.

      In spanish there is the *femenino and the *masculino. That is the hardest i guess it's the same thing in svenska

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Zacharie Nadeau Actually, Swedish combines the masculine and feminine genders into a single gender known as "common," which takes the article "en" and for which adjectives take no ending in the singular. The other gender in Swedish (which Spanish does NOT have) is neuter, which takes the article "ett" and for which adjectives take a "t" (sometimes a "tt") ending in the singular (by the way, all adjectives take "a" for their ending in the plural regardless of the gender of the nouns they modify).

    Similar to French. We have feminine and masculine words, and there's really no way of knowing until you memorize. There are some tricks, but they're not always accurate. Jag pratar lite Svenska. I would love to visit Sweden one day and be able to communicate fluently.

    Ett words do change in plural when the last letter of the noun ends in a vowel. For example, en äpple, flera äpplen.

    What is the use of those two genders? How do they help communication?
    Similarly, when do you append the gender preposition? When does it make sense to say bilen vs. en bil?

    Very likeable teacher! Almost apologetic/guilty when he comes to the tricky aspects of Swedish!
    Maybe try identifying ‘ett’ and ‘en’ as feminine and masculine nouns. This would help relate them to many other languages, and to distinguish between them.

      Hi, In Sweden they speak Swedish and in Switzerland it depends. Switzerland has a few official languages including German, French and Italian. I would be surprised if anyone in Switzerland could speak Swedish!

      If it's plural definite form, the tables, it's "borden", ending with "en". I didn´t include plural definite in the video, but now I added an annotation in the end of the video.
