- All the goals scored by Liverpool FC, winner of the 1980/81 European Cup. Liverpool won the trophy overcoming Oulun Palloseura, Aberdeen, CSKA Sofia, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. That team was coached by Bob Paisley. Terry McDermott and Graeme Souness were the team topscorers, with 6 goals.

Imagine Bob Paisley being in charge of Manchester United (with their huge transfer budget) the same period of time as Sir Alex Ferguson. I promise you, he would have won at the champions league at least 5 times, maybe even 7 times. The gentle Uncle of Liverpool was THAT good. But he wasn't obsessed with the European Cup as much Sir Alex was.

Half of their goals scored by Scotsmen. It's a mystery to me that Scotland never got far in any international competition. Even to qualify was a success.
It was the mix of Scottish & English that made this team great, means if Scotland & England would have a team together, then maybe they would have dominated the World Cup and Euro roughly between 1976 to 1984...

When the foreigner in English league were just mostly scottish, welsh and irish.. Now you see African, Asian, and the rest of other EU team everywhere ever since Bosman ruling and we barely see any English talent since most of the top performance are by foreigner. Barely any Scottish being a top performer in PL now either

@@widerspacefanz4316 Apart from Bruce Grobbelaar and Steve Heighway, they were all British. Look how many British players play for the top Premier League, and how many British top managers there are. David Moyes is average but Ferguson was the last good one.
Today with the players, there is no identification with the club as decades ago. (You always associated Bobby Charlton with ManU ).You have players arriving at your club that you've barely heard of. He's black, (no racism intended), his parents were from Senegal, and he was born in Holland and played several seasons for PSG after moving there from Ajax. He has a name which is difficult to pronounce. After a while you do know how to pronounce it, (he's not the only new arrival), he's off to Juventus. 3 years later, half of your team has changed. The days when Glasgow Celtic won the European Cup with all players having been born within 23 miles of Celtic Park are long gone and will never return.

On the other side the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus etc etc got no where near. The reason? One bad performance and you were out. This is the key reason these clubs wanted the format to change in the mid 1990s.

And to qualify? Couldn’t just scrap into 4th on 60+ points like you lot did. Had to win the league to qualify. That’s what added to the difficulty, you don’t get as many chances. Yous were in it every year from 1993-2014 and only won it twice.
