I would pay money if the footage of that interaction came to light! Sweet people like you are THE SCARIEST when triggered! Sounds like you did a great job. And maybe people weren't familiar with cosplay etiquette, but they ARE familiar with general personal space/belongings etiquette. They just don't gaf.
Sweet Kirilee, you mama beared that idiot, and probably saved some poor kids and your friend from injury, if they have cosplay at the royal show again next year they need to have an area set up ready a bit like santas groto and people who can wrangle the kids big and small, ❤
Thankyou so much for being part of the show, talking to people who recognized your dress with them saying how much they love your channel has been a fantastic part of being there :) And 10/10 for the cosplay wrangling, we definitely need a better system and more help if we go walking again next year but I cant tell you how much I appreciated your help that day ❤
My entire reoccuring thought during all of this is 'I'm dissapointed but not surprised' there's something about being in a costume that makes people suddenly treat you like an object, like a poster or statue rather than a human being! I'm glad there's less of this sort of thing at conventions now!
Great job, someone had to take charge. BOO that they didn't have better protection for you all. Maybe next year they'll plan better but yay for you. People can be so ignorant. And a few well placed cus words can speak volumes. Here here, 😂🎉😂❤
Im not sure if it'll help, but you could try some "plain clothes" (black tee, black jeans, lanyard) handlers for big cosplays next year - for some reason, people behave differently if they see you're in a "uniform". Glad it was an overall positive experience, but sucks that it was so stressful in the first place!
"I'm not getting paid for this I'm just MMHMMMHMMMMHMMMMM" is literally such a mood. Ah, man, this is why I admire character wranglers. Also, protecting Bumblebee like that is very in character for Wanda I think. I really don't know what it's about cosplay and "normies" that make the "normies" think they can just... touch and pick up and what-have-you. At least at every convention I've been to, I've seen signs that say "Cosplay isn't consent" and that's like... a thing that is known (or at least enforced). But you'd think it'd be common sense everywhere.
It's always a bad sign when anime con-goers are the better behaved group ^^; (Although maybe that speaks to how these communities as a whole have really spent time educating each other on "cosplay is not consent" and "treat the other person like a person you dingbat")
Years ago I auditioned to be a dancer at Sea World in Southern California. I was offered character work. I went in for the interview and was told that being Shamu was very dangerous. The costume has a large back fin. The park warned me that teenage boys would come over to Shamu and yank the fin, pulling down the actor. It was such a problem that they had already identified the danger. The minute you said teen boy I knew where the story was going. I didn't take the job, it sounded horrible. You could only be outside in 20 minute intervals, the costume had no AC and was worn by others. No thanks! I ended up working at the SD Zoo as Doctor Zoolittle's research asst. Prof. Ursula Poopsalotta.
I asked in cosplay group whether anyone thought this would take off in East Coast royal shows - interesting responses included one person who felt cosplay was against the "ethos" of royal shows!
I heard of some drama happening in a cosplay australia FB group! Funnily enough, I had a chat with the organiser of the arts and craft pavilion (for WA) and she was in absolute support. She was so pleased to add in the new category as it brought in a new wave of interest from a new demographic of people. And the general feeling from the people who came into the shed was that they were delighted to see detailed cosplays up close. She was also discussing with me that the royal shows over east get a whole lot more sponsorships than WA because large companies’ HQ are over there. But when she reaches out… crickets.
As one of the people who organized for cosplay to be at the royal show and had been there talking to people all week I can tell you now everyone in the cooking and craft pavilion saw that comment and everyone including the head of the pavilion disagreed with it! Being there both this year and last has been great and has helped bring in a whole new crowd, I only hope more royal shows get on board in the future :)
***Slow Clap*** You are now the Guardian of the Cosplay lol. Seriously though sounds like the State Fair in the US look it up.... famously full of idiots 😂

Agreed. Like it is good to wonder but there needs to be better security or cosplay wranglers

Thank you hun! Yeh better system next year

It was mind blowing because I’ve never seen it in person before. Like total disregard because of just what someone was wearing

It is something that we may look into - if we can find someone with a big booming voice

Ha! That is a very true point about Wanda! Protective mumma!
Convention culture has been very good about education.
Legend
Thank you xo
Sometimes you need to be the bigger person. But, sometimes you need to teach a lesson. The lesson that when you fool around, you find out.
Absolutely!

That is so true! The education has been there and there is a degree of safety at these conventions because there is more cosplayers around

Oh geez - that does not sound fun
Lol I think you used totally appropriate language.....little s#%@& only understand one language. Well done for protecting Bumblebee.
I swear like a sailor in real life haha

That would be the most ideal thing.
It would be nice if the west could be an example of moving with the times for the east coast :)
