Philippa & the other lady, you're both amazing individuals.
As a fellow racing cyclist I was a huge fan of Robert Millar, i'm now a HUGE fan of Philippa York. Your courage is inspiring to all of us.

I remember being too scared to get his autograph at the Kelloggs in Dundee. He just looked very angry, but now the happiness in there to see.

Well done, Philippa. Being from Glasgow, and discovering the TDF in the 1980s, I was immensely proud of your achievements and I really wanted you to be prominent and 'available' to us back then. You were the only Scottish cycling superstar at that time and I wanted to know more about you and see all the usual celeb interviews etc, unfortunately - as we learn now - that wasn't your thing. We could never have known the turmoil you were experiencing, the pressure you were under, it's therefore no surprise you couldn't be there for us. It's truly great to see you've found yourself and are comfortable, and confident, in an age more accepting.
An age more accepting; I have to confess that in the 1980s I could not have reconciled myself with the essential changes you've made in your life, I can now, easily, thanks to progressive, forward-minded people like yourself. That makes for a much better world we're living in. Cheers.

“Bloody poofter!”, I can hear my dad and friends saying those words back in the 80’s as virtually everyone would.
    How times change.
It’s fantastic that Philippa is now able to be her true self and live a happier life.
I was a huge Robert Miller fan in the 80’s-90’s but I have even more respect and admiration for Philippa York.

What really struck me about this was the contrast in the confidence displayed by Philippa and that of Robert, 30 years ago. I imagine that Robert was a journalist's nightmare, whereas Philippa is articulate and forthcoming about her life. It's pretty clear that she's done the right thing, and she should be an inspiration to others who struggle with gender identity. I was always a huge fan of Robert, and now admire Philippa tremendously. Great video.

Before there was team sky and the WCPP at British Cycling, Robert Millar was one of the few British cyclists that actually did something in cycle racing. Its strange seeing Robert as Philipa, but the subject of transgender, strange as it is must always be met with understanding and most of all compassion.

That's exactly how I grew up but I transitional later in my life , thank goodness for my wife she has been there every step of the way for me for 34 years , I thought that she wouldn't accept me but she does because we mean a lot to each other and I'm sure a lot of trans people understand what I'm going through to just like I understand a lot of what they are going through male to female and female to male ! good luck for everybody . I wish nothing but happiness for everybody that's going through what we all been through ! We're all here on this Earth to make mistakes and believe me everybody makes mistakes !

I am quite surprised how femine Philippa York looks as a former sportsman. No to talk about Elley West! Most transmen that I have met were not so lucky and just looked like men in drag. I think the whole transgender is pretty complicated. As far as I know the vast majority of people who think they are transsexual drop the idea after a certain, but both Philppa and Elley seem good examples that a transition can work out well.
