Basic cleaning is enough for engine. Not required a water wash. Just clean with hands (till where ur hands can reach). I haven't water washed my Punto since I got it in 2009. No issues anywhere in engine. I just clean by wet cloth and let the engine dry, no spraying.
You are right bro. I have suffered problem due to washing. My i20 washed at Hyundai authorized service center. My car started missing when engine is cold but get corrected when it reaches to optimal temp. This problem continued for several days and authorized service center mechanics could not identify it. I called them at my place and shows this problem with cold engine and after 2 days it got rectified. They told me that it happened due to washing and water was hampering some parts.

Air clean with cautious.Water went in horn, immediately took next day and got horn clean with air pressure. Local mechanic showed the carburettor is not clean from inside,it needs to be opened to clean carbon similarly air intake value.
Mujhe 32000 Ka fatka laga tha. Grand i10 Ka ECU mein moisture chala Gaya tha so change Karwana pada. Now I use pressure air instead of water for engine compartment.

Never wash engine with water. Agar ye koi part damage nahi kar bhi rha tab bhi cheeje rust pakad sakti hn. Engine area ko special liquid se wash kiya jata h jo turant hi evaporate ho jata h. Aur haan kabhi bhi garam engine ko wash na karen. Meri gadi m water washing se engine ka spark plug aur uska module kharab ho gya tha.
