Nice vid doddie...however when u show compressing to charge the neg chamber(6:42), u have the shock pump still fully attached! Tusk! U can see the air being forced back into to pump, moving the needle and not (effectively) charging the neg chamber therefore. Plus can damage pump (accuracy). Always disconnect pump before compressing...just enough to close the valve/release pressure in pump is ok, don't have to fully undo/remove if pressure in pump released...
Also peops, rockshox u pressurise shock (not forks, this is shocks only) to 100psi then compress 5 times to charge neg...not to body weight as per text...👍

Old question, but in case anyone else wants to know, the reason for high speed compression vs volume spacers is to increase the damping (absorbing energy), where volume spacers increase the spring rate deeper in the travel instead. If you have a shock without enough high speed compression damping, but with lots of spacers, it'll move very easily in the initial part of the travel and then get a lot stiffer later on. with repeated hits, it'll pack down against the stiff part at the end of the travel, but because the spring is so progressive, it won't bottom out as hard. Really, the end result is almost like having a shorter and harder fork/shock after the first couple hits.
I personally prefer to have slower low speed rebound for stability (less bouncing off of small bumps and things) and increased low speed damping to prevent excessive fork travel in the first place so it doesn't pack down. I find this helps keep my arms fresh and my line controlled in extremely rough terrain. I just tweak the high speed compression damping to just enough to avoid violent bottom outs but otherwise leave it as open as possible.
I’m thinking about buying an Orange 5 but new shocks seem to be metric. Do you think there will be issues buying into what could be a rapidly redundant imperial standard?

I really like your videos. I just bought my first mountain bike a used 2013 Santa Cruz Tallboy C. I live in Jamaica where there isn't lot of trail riding per se but it's very possible given the make up of the country. The Bike has dual shock absorbers both with 100mm of travel which from watching your videos I think will be fine for what I'll be doing. I however want to know if it is possible to safely change out the shock absorbers to 110mm rear and 120-130mm front or can I get the existing 100mm absorbers to perform like 120mm absorbers by adding those things which I totally forgot the name?
Hey I am watching this vid in 2021 so if you still have not changed your shock and fork I'll tell you uf you can. So you can change both the shock and the fork either up 20mm max or down 20mm max. for example: Now you have a 100mm fork you can get a fork up to 120mm or else the geometry if the bike will change quite a bit. Same goes on for the fork. Please tell me If I helped you!

Speaking of suspension, I've been have an issue with my fork set up and was wondering if you guys had any advice. I've been noticing fatigue in my arms on really rough trails (flying monkey, UT to be specific). So far I've tried lowering compression and have tried both faster and slower rebound. With this set up i had a violent bottom out on a drop with 2 blue volume spacers, so I tried increasing pressure a little. Any red flags or suggestions? Maybe arm strengthening? The fork I'm running is a 2017 160mm fox factory fork

Why would you want to add high speed compression to prevent bottom out over volume spacers?
Old question, but in case anyone else wants to know, the reason for high speed compression vs volume spacers is to increase the damping (absorbing energy), where volume spacers increase the spring rate deeper in the travel instead. Brad Williams it’s a fox fork so the travel can easily be adjusted up to 120mm if you wanted

1. Some Enduro frames dont Work with coils because of little progression.
2. More supple but less poppy than air shocks.
3. Need less maintainance

DT Swiss, DVO, Manitou and possibly others still use negative coil springs, theres nothing wrong with them, they work just fine.
