- Join me on a spontaneous antiquing journey in Fakenham, Norfolk, UK where things took an unexpected turn! Today, I had grand plans to explore the weekly antique market, browse through local charity shops, and immerse myself in the treasures of a quaint antiques centre. Little did I know, my filming adventure would hit a roadblock when the antiques centre politely asked me to stop capturing the experience.
🔍 Despite the unexpected twist, I managed to capture some fascinating finds and unique pieces before my camera was put on pause. From vintage trinkets to hidden gems, the charm of Fakenham's antique scene shines through, even in the face of unplanned hiccups.
🛍️ Explore the antique market alongside me as we navigate through a small selection of stalls filled with history and stories waiting to be uncovered. Join me as I share the highs and lows of my day, and let's make the best of the situation together!
🎥 Although my filming was cut short, I'm excited to share the snippets of my adventure and the intriguing items that caught my eye. Who knows what surprises we'll uncover in this charming town!

I am afraid my video just got even shorter! The owner of Chapel Antiques in Fakenham has asked me to remove any footage of their premises. It's a shame as I was trying to promote Fakenham as a great little place to go antique hunting, especially on a Thursday when the antique market is on BUT I have re-edited as requested and removed any internal videography promoting the centre.
What a stupid woman to turn away free advertising, instead we all know now she's a very rude woman and won't go there!
I holiday in North Norfolk for six weeks each year. Why are the businesses so averse to custom? Crazy.
@@user-hd7me8uh5jit's a mystery
What a shame Louisa! Similar to you, I love filming and trying to help spread the word about small businesses. Usually they don't mind when asked, and they almost always recieve sales when people view the footage, so it's a win win in most circumstances. Never mind - I know that there are planty more who love to have you promote them. x
It was partly my fault Paula as I didn't ask permission. I have learned my lesson 😊Not for a single minute did I think that a small business wouldn't want promoting but I am sure they have their reasons.
I must look very shifty too Louisa! We popped into the Fakenham Emporium in October, my husband is recovering from leg surgery and asked if he could sit down, the lady was very accommodating to begin with but when he started chatting to her whilst I was walking about she more or less suggested he was distracting her so I could shop lift!! Which is such a shame, they had a couple of losses and were no doubt wary but it wasn't very welcoming! Home Bird is a gorgeous little shop, I am looking forward to going back there 😊
It works both ways.
I was with my American friend who was visiting and she so loved the antique shop we were in and took a photograph. Whereupon she was jumped on by the owner who told her not to do that. We were so shocked and left immediately. I have not set foot in her shop since. This was about 8 years ago!
There are plenty of places who are happy to have my custom.😅
PS. I loved the little blue and white jug and the candelabra was perfect for the birthday cake. Well spotted Louisa.
I totally agree. One of the things I love about shopping in independent shops and quirky antique centres is the experience and chatting with friendly shop keepers and antique dealers is one of them. If it's not a friendly, pleasant experience I am not likely to return.
I once overheard two antique dealers calling me a time waster after I’d looked round their shop! So flipping rude!! Not the way to run a successful business that’s for sure.
Oh nowl! That's not good 🤣 They at least needed to wait until you were out of earshot.
Glad to hear you asked permission to film after your experience at the Antique Center. It’s the right thing to do.
I always ask in small independent shops, but larger shops don't really mind. Afterall lots of shops want you to spread the word on social media.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle I was thinking, who turns down free advertising? Now they risk backlash, people don’t like shopping in unfriendly places. Love seeing your shopping videos!
Really? How bizarre and no need to be rude. Surely it's good advertising?!
Sorry, did not mean to be rude, just not knowledgeable of local habits!❤️
@@ninasgriccia4652 you weren't rude. Please don't apologise
I would understand if they had hundreds of people filming there getting in the way but you are always so courteous and positive about everywhere you film that I can’t help but be surprised at the attitude of the Antique Centre. Maybe they were having a bad day and you got the brunt 😝. The tiny blue and white jug was simply adorable. I could see sweet peas arranged quite perfectly in that. Thank you for taking us along with you, Louisa, I’m always so happy when you take us shopping-antiquing with you ☺️
I didn't get the jug? What was I thinking? I think I'm taking my frugal ways too far.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle just think of that lovely indoor shower room - then it will seem like the right decision. I have waay too many jugs but I was still picturing on my kitchen window sill 🙈
I certainly have my eyes on the prize ☺️ I am now think the jug would have looked pretty as cake topper too 🤣
Lovely places to shop (not the one that asked you to stop filming) and see what treasures can be found. The little candelabra for your daughter’s birthday cake is perfect. ❤
Next job is to make the birthday cake ☺️
The miniature candelabra will be lovely on an 18th birthday cake. Thank you for showing us around Fakenham. Xxx
I think I might be more excited about the miniature candelabra than she is 🤣
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle😂😂😂
😊
It does seem a bit short-sighted of the antique centre, I would think it was wonderful PR…. I did love that “for home and country” piece of china in the 40p box and would have been delighted to snap it up! I’m enjoying your visits to neighbouring towns whether it’s antiquing or simply rambling. As an avid Anglophile I start planning our next trip as soon as we arrive home (Canada) from the previous one.
It does seem a little short sighted. When I'm videoing these places I always think I'm helping by championing them.
Where are you heading next in England?
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle a week in the south around Rye, followed by a week in Hebden Bridge and then booked to walk the Wainwright Coast to Coast for 18 days starting Sept 7.
@@janeandclementine On I love Rye, I'm visiting next week. Enjoy your stay! 😊
I went to Rye a couple of years ago and loved it
I randomly came across your channel & have been enjoying past vlogs. I admire the honesty of your ' knackered ' interior ethos. However I would find it impossible to live with stone floors, bare walls & no ceilings !! Your cottage & garden is fascinating & so interesting. Love your curly locks & colourful dresses.
Thank you 😊 Renovation life isn't for everyone but I.cope by because I know what we're trying to achieve. One day all of this discomfort will be a distant memory.
Not everyone likes filming. We just have to respect people’s wishes.xx🐝🐝
I agree. I must admit, it just hadn't occurred to me as I was happily going around thinking I was promoting towns and businesses. I will always ask from now on 😊
The beautiful shop fronts were wonderful to see.Thank-you for all the lovely filming. The blue and white serving dishes were really nice, homely and friendly.Your coat is lovely, perfect for a winters day outing.Hope Marks knee is better.😊😊😊😊
Thanks Helen. That is my 1960's llama wool coat 😊 It's so warm and toasty. Mark's knee is 100% better. He did the right thing resting it. We are chomping at the bit to get going on DIY projects. We just need to get this big birthday out of the way 😊
I know Fakenham from when I lived there in late 70's - early 80's and remember market day on Thursdays. I do not understand the need for the person in the antiques centre to be rude. All they had to do was politely ask you not to film! Love the little candelabra for the cake. So cute.
To be fair, she was only a little off with me when I tried to explain why I thought it was a good idea and I tried to show her one of my videos so that she could see what I was doing. It's a shame I couldn't film in there but there you go.
not everyone wants to be filmed ... i deem it polite to ask .
So adorable
☺️☺️☺️
I wanna go!
You'd love it, I'm sure 😊
The minature candalabra is lovely. What a great idea, espically for adult cakes. Are you making it?
I thought it was great although I think so am more excited about it than Immie 🤣 Yes, I am making it tomorrow, ready for a family party on Sunday.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyleHappy Birthday Imogen,have a wonderful time on Sunday🎂💐
Thank Helen. We're party ready 😊
I was going to comment on the Fakenham antiques place as i sometimes pop in there but id better not put it on the open Internet 😂 .
Definitely be on your best behaviour in there 🤣
Join me as I go antique hunting in Fakenham - it didn't go quite to plan!
@@michellecalton I have removed content as requested and apologise that I didn't ask permission to film inside your shop. I will know to do so on any future antique hunting adventures.
You've clearly stolen their ability to punctuate a sentence.
☺️
Would love for you to tell us the prices of things as you go film😘
I'll try to do better next time 😘
normally influencers do ask permission to film when entering. and i don't see any reason to say no unless the store is full of people and you are afraid the customers take offence. otherwise, there is never enough free publicity to any commerce!
I believe on this occasion they were worried about people copying their store. I didn't fully understand the logic but I have to respect their decision. Knowing that they've been on television makes their reasoning even less understandable but there we go. Onwards and upwards 😊
What you need see the glasses that you can record with, when you are recording it goes to your phone and no one will know...
Oh my goodness, that would be amazing. What an amazing idea!
Fakenham was a lovely English Town, plenty of quiet well paid jobs. good shops. Today low pay low skilled work. Town full of charity shops, Turkish owned takeaways and now Turkish barbers. Poor public transport.
We love Fakenham. We can find everything we need there. Generally most people are super friendly. The cinema is wonderful and the town comes alive on market day. As for charity shops, they are popular and most people use them.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle Can you find jobs for the young people.
@@adamsfamily4060 yes, both my daughters have local jobs.
I do think you should ask permission before you film in someone's shop...it's respectful and appreciated by the owner.❤
Yes, I agree. I recall on this occasion, they were busy gossiping at their shop counter. Most shop owners look surprised when I ask them, but agree, it is best practice.
Ridiculous Not Allowing Filming Obviously Don't Need Business
I think they're just a little old fashioned
If you are in private property you need to ask permission. Mind your manners.
