    I'm curious what is your definition of a "tiny" kitchen - the ones shown here don't feel tiny to me - any kitchen that has a pantry in my definition is not "tiny" - I have visited kitchen in Europe that are smaller than an American bedroom closet.

      Yes, exactly. My whole hose is smaller than somebody's living room, so my kitchen is really small. But I have problem throwing away things I need very seldom. I'm in the phase of decluttering my house and I progress really slowly. Not very happy. But seeing some solutions opens me to get my own new ideas, I learn to think differently about the use of certain things. So it is ok for me to see videos like this.

    Hanging utensils on the wall behind the stove is not a good place for storage. Over time they'll become coated with layers of splatter and dust. It's also not a good idea to drill holes in cabinets and their doors, particularly when you rent the place. Open shelving/storage has the downside of needing constant maintenance. Consider the level of required upkeep before you implement some of these suggestions.

      yea so true. some of the things she shows are downright stupid and the things she says are cringeworthy. she calls pegboards (usually used for tools in your garage) for "sophisticated" and "stylish"!...lol. and she calls open shelves for "cunning" and storing stuff in your oven is "cosmopolitan"!?? ...hahaha.

    • @cleliamattana6582
      @cleliamattana6582 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm starting to realize how many of you have more tools than they actually use/need in their kitchen. I had almost everything in the open (well duh, my kitchen was a sink and a portable camping "kitchen" so I regularly used everything every day. No dust. No unnecessary things to store. And I'm Italian, which means I ALWAYS COOK AT HOME and an insane amount of food. Less is better and you don't have to worry about dust. USE THOSE THINGS! And the ones you use less often either ditch them or store them in a cabinet, but if they exceed the amount of the things you use regularly then you should think about ditching them. Just saying. Criticizing without thinking about the practical side is not nice in my opinion.

      @@cleliamattana6582 Seriously....I wish my mom would listen to this and throw away all the junk, she doesn't use now. There are zillion spatulas that's just in the storage for display all the time and we only regularly use 2...just 2. I don't even understand why she bought all those.

    if these are small kitchens.. I would love to see your definition of a large one.. *my* kitchen (which is small) has about 6ft of counterspace in total (Smaaaaall) 4 top cupboards, 2 lower ones, and 4 drawers so: used a shelving unit along one wall for dry goods, large mixing bowls, my juicer, and other cooking 'toys', hung a pot hanger wrack on the ceiling, 2 ft from the stove, framed nicely in an otherwise bland window.. removed cupboard doors on the top, to 'match' the open shelves on wall.. laid bamboo mat on floor, purposely crooked (looks awesome!) my gorgeous, rustic dining table in the corner, with a hanging paper light (lighting in kitchen sucks, with only one light at one end of room), painted cupboards and window trim 'wet black' with an awesome bright lime green on the walls.. result: freaking awesome kitchen.. now.. to tackle the floor!!
    almost shut the video off.. but found it pretty hilarious actually.. moveable island.. in a *small* kitchen?? hahaha I just.. wow lol and most of us,,who have small kitchens.. don;t really care about sleek, sophisticated looks.. just not having 'stuff' everywhere ...and by the way.. if you have soo much food in your 'pantry' (HA! pantry??!! in a small kitchen...? hmmn nope) that you can't find it.. save space.. don't buy so much ;) just a thought

    I use “working glasses”. They have snap on lids and are great for storage. They come in different sizes. Can also be used as glasses or mugs. They stack.
    Also, I don’t stack my plates on top of each other - I use a wooden rack with pegs that hold my dishes upright. Holds lots more in a smaller space and helps in not getting scratches on plates. This holds any size or combination of plates.
    I also just bought a Kilner 3 container stacking glass storage unit. Saves space. I have it set up with coffee, filters + sugar. Gave me more space in my cabinet since it sits on the counter next to my Aeropress.

    Firstly, I agree with several other comments below in that the storage suggestions are frankly more for larger kitchens. Secondly, address what to do when you are a renter. Several people who watch these videos need practical ideas that can be used in spaces in rentals where lease restrictions are pretty limiting.

    Wow, a 'baking pantry'?
    I like some of these ideas, but they all come from a place of privilege it seems. Small apartments and kitchens don't tend to have pantries, or open walls to put up pegboard, or side panels to put rods up. Instead of filing your water bottles, why not Marie Kondo your kitchen and get rid of most of them? If there are six of you, sure six bottles. But if you are one person?

    Those open shelves are a bad idea. The items stored there will get dusty and greasy really quickly. You'll have to haul everything down and wash them on a regular basis. I'm not sure you've seen the dimention size of a lot of small kitchens. The ones shown here are huge compaired to mine.

      I have to take my pans and bake ware out of the oven and place it on the dining table in the next room. I have a kitchenette in a rented apartment. Then I have to take all that stuff and put it back in the oven when it has cooled down. It's a pain in the butt! Most of these suggestions wont work here. You can't go willy nilly drilling holes in cabinets and walls for shelves and hooks. I wish I could, but management often doesn't like the idea of that. You have to ask permission to put up shelves and explain why. So annoying.

    I don't mean to be disrespectful, but if I may ask, why does a home need so many watter bottles ? Buy 4 steel/copper/bamboo bottles, and that's all you need. Building storage to store two dozen plastic watter bottles is a typical example of how humans often create problems and invent solutions to them. :)

    Do not put things in your oven! There is a possibility that you may be preoccupied or someone may be visiting and turn the oven on to preheat while not realizing that there is something in the oven. I have done this. Nearly ruined one of my pots with a plastic handle. Luckily I smelled the burning plastic before it was too late.

    • @tohrurikku
      @tohrurikku 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laurahudson8210 Stoneware might be ok. It is other stuff that might be a problem, for example my pot with a plastic handle. My great grandmother used to keep things like cereal in hers at the cottage to keep it from the mice but I know that the mice can still get into there. Mice like to go into the warming drawer too so keep an eye on that. I moved into a few places where the warming drawers had some really icky things in it and I decided to never put anything I will want to use in there ever again. Plus, recently I learned that you are not supposed to store anything in there. Apparently that is to keep you food warm. How you are supposed to do that when it is not set up for it and often times the drawer is impossible to open the older it gets I have no clue.

    I live to use command hooks, but I would never use them to hang my glass lids. The hooks do come off from time to time. SMASH! broken lids.

    The prob with these ideas is it goes from hidden and stuffed onto your counter tops and a complete eye clutter pluck

    One thing that makes a small kitchen seem even smaller and thats clutter. Pans hanging on pegboard ??? what on earth would that be like in my small kitchen, a nightmare

      Yes, it looks cluttery, but the idea is the store things. It takes less space to lay pots and pans against a wall than it does to have them sitting horizontal in a cabinet or shelf. They are not fast and easy to grab when you want them and to put them back in cabinets. However, for sanitary reasons, I don't like cookware hanging out in the open. Esp if one has pets like birds, cats or dogs where hair, small feathers and dander can fly around in the air currents in the room. No thanks.

    A lot of cool ideas. But it doesn't say where some of the things came from.

    The one problem is if you use your oven to store items. If you have to use your oven you have to take everything out of the oven to use it. That is my problem. I live in a townhouse and the kitchen is long and narrow with cabinets on my side. Small counter space.

    0:55 Bogus. You keep your kitchen utensils in a drawer so that they don't get dust! Especially silicone spatulas!

    nota small kitchen if you have wall space to hang stuff. hanging stuff behind range is a grease mess. small kitchen don't have pantrys of any size. cabinet shelves are not moveable therefore you can't adjust or use risers to separate things. open shelves? dirty dishes. spices in baby food jars w magnet to hang where ..... front of fridge? ick. knock off too easy. glass anything and command hooks are an accident waiting to happen . there is no wall to add shelves. hmmmm I have downsized. no storing in oven or warming drawer as no place to put the stored when oven and warming draw in use. Who does these vids? Small kitchen small apt small eating area that won't hold card table and four chairs. Industrial shelving adjusting height of each shelf to what is stored, one is pot,pans, baking dishes and bread pans, cooling racks, etc. add additional shelf for tea pots and pitchers . 2nd is pantry items and additional shelf for salad, dessert or cake platters, large bowls and serving trays. 34 in. table w 2 chairs for eating and extra prep station. again, who writes this stuff? they dont show small kitchens just ideas that cant be achieved in a small kitchen.
