Thank you for teasing out of Ed some vital pieces of his, Henry's and Milo's approach using flexion and rotation to replace the extension and arm throw so many of us are handicaped by. The rainbow metaphor for left hip/pelvis motion in the downswing clearly illustrates a superior balance and power source. Something to incorporate during the cold weather here in the Northeast. Great stuff. I especially love the tag line! Coming from a hockey background I've always had a tendency to "hit"/throw and not so much pull/tow. And starting to do lead arm only swings have opened my eyes how much easier it is to square the face consistently. this is basically saying the same.. Pulling from the lead side keeps face more stable.. Love it.. The rest is timing the falling/compression and subsequent pushing off...

If the ball position is forward as it should be is he really on top of the ball or on top of his pelvis? I would say pelvis, then as he pushes his lead hip away from the target his head will slightly move back and he can hit up on the ball
brendon, i've been working on that type of swing and when i get it right it is oh so nice but i'll start to lose it and sometimes end up going back to the throw and extend. i learned it mostly from milo, ed and you, thnx so much for bringing it to us.
They say if you go to a seminar and get one new idea to implement it was worth the cost of the seminar. The same goes with YT instructional videos. The explanation of the hand/wrist position at 13:30 was new to me. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Makes so much sense.i am a hitter ot thrower amd its got me steep amd over top amd spread lower left back, RH golfer.. loved the stuff with monte.but this is my new go to video.. so you push back as it gets to tip you squat amd turn lower body left and turn hands slightly. I watched a million of your vids with different instructors and players, and not once have i seen your swing change over the last few years, it Always looks the same with the throw at the bottom. If you can't change your swing with some of the best instructors in the world! What chance do i have watching TH-cam?
The funny thing about it is everyone wants lag and everyone wants to roll their arms over like Rory and Tiger at full extension. But your body does all of this naturally when the intent is right. This is really good stuff . When you learn to plant and fall into the shot is when everything falls into place.
Woww it seems to have a lot of progress in the way the body moves to throw and slow down the club since the last I saw you swingging in past videos ! 🔥🔥
FWIW I've found using the Gem training aid with waist to waist swings in a series of no ball Gem swings then a couple of ball strikes w/o the Gem promotes the look (so I suppose the feel) of the foundation 1 swings being shown here. To resolve the wobble it's a must to get that lead side moving - interesting correlation in feel.
Very interesting. This dovetails perfectly with Ericson's latest video where he talks about keeping the right arm rigid and rotating through with the body. When I was practicing, it ended up looking precisely like what you're doing. It forces the rotation and changing the source of power.

Great question and your correct in your analogy about the lead leg. Depending on the length of your backswing, I would say somewhere near lead arm parallel to the ground(P5).
Ed. Kept trying this move at speed. It feels I need to start that left foot backward push/jump like "ages" before the club swooshes through. Thats the only way I feel I'm transferring any energy to the club. Does it make sense ?
Once you've incorporates the trail wrist extension that he's discussing at 4:50, he makes swings at approx 5:30 and 6:30. What would the hackmotion graph look like for these punches. I'm imagining that the trail wrist extension correlates pretty tightly with lead wrist ("hackmotion") flexion, although it wouldn't be quite 1:1 as the wrists aren't exactly opposing. But how tightly is it built up then held on to?
So do you release the club or is it held off as you rotated. It appears you try to hold the wrist angle and just turn . Do you release the wrist to extend as you turn.
Great question, IMO you see the better ball strikers get to impact with a slightly bent trail arm and wrist and hips and chest are open, then as their pivot starts to slow the release happens naturally.
"Flex and rotate," i.e. feeling more of the down and back movement, does not seem consistent with Dr. Kwon's studies and teaching. It would be nice to hear more explanation of how to square the concepts (or not if there is disagreement).
Dr. Kwon in my understanding teaches back to ball longer movement. This would contradict a rotate quickly movement in my opinion. Your not going to be as open as they suggest using what I believe Dr. Kwon is teaching.
@@eisw1 Dr. Kwon is all about the “up-up” motion and not really feeling like you ever purposefully lower yourself or push your hips back to spin. It is more about extending the right side actively in the backswing and then “kicking the ground” or falling momentarily toward the target to recenter and use the ground, and then extending the left side.

Very confusing and not sure I agree with this. The best players always “throw it” on full speed swings. The throw is the speed source. Look at any of the long drivers, they are not holding it off, they are throwing it. You have to release/throw it at some point.
No doubt there’s a throwing motion, the question is when they throw. They don’t throw from the top, they shift pressure, start the turn into their lead arm, then push away and let it go. Thanks for watching

I built my own GEM and this is the only way I can swing it and not have it "wobble". Zero shaft rotation. GEM feels like it's always pointing to the ground from waist high to waist high.
My personal opinion is no this is not going to work with GEM. I just bought the GEM after watching BBG. Rotary Swing with Chuck Quinton is more in line with the use of the GEM. I think the GEM teaches you to use your wrist and release the club correctly. You do this with a rotation swing and the ball with probably go left of left? I believe most golfers over rotate causing over the top and open club face. I’m no expert and might get chopped up here for this. This swing appears really complicated at high speeds.
Not if you use the ‘official’ way the Gem sellers prescribe, which I think is very old school and detrimental (I was taught like that), but if you use it in the way Brandon prescribes then it looks like a match as this swing type is what he is trying to accomplish and practise with the Gem
This drill might be OK for slow speeds... but when you apply full speed I think it's wrong to think about rotation. You will only loose your balance and be a better flipper at best... I prefer to do the exact opposite: That is, glue the feet to the ground and think about shoulders and torso at the most. Flipping occurs when either hand out-races the other. You can even confuse towing with pulling the handle... and that causes a flip too...
I believe they are at slow speed to get the feeling and so the viewers can do the same. From my experience these drill actually work the same at higher speeds. And it still looks effortless. That's the beauty of the flex and turn. Yup, check out Milo Lines for some high speed effortless motion.

Maybe it's just lonely me... but I think focus should be more on a torso/arm thing, leaving out the legs. When I see this drill I tend to move legs, hip and torso in one block, which is wrong obviously. If you tell me I'm reading it wrong, then I'll believe you. But I can't be the only one seeing it like this. Am I ?

I agree with you but people confuse the handsy or armsy feeling for something bad Hogan said he wish he had 3 right hands jack said I try to throw or use my right hand as early as possible so did alot of old golfers aswell the armsy/handsy feel is what actually produces what we are looking for but many have turned away cause the main thing for teachers is making the money and most people will believe what's popular or popular opinion if someone tells me that how could that work and go on about how bad it is I just simply ignore them and it's more wisdom and knowledge I gained.

Also, if you watched Jacks’ swing before the 70’s he was very rotational, for whatever reason in the 70’s and on he started to slide and throw. Eventually, he need surgery in his right lower back and left hip. From what I’ve seen only two players of prominence in that time period never changed their swing that was Arnie and Gary and neither had significant injuries. Thanks for watching👍🏼
@@edlasatergolf Jack had back trouble in his teens, receiving cortisone shots, Arnie famously had bursitis of the hip (as I remember). Both had very powerful, aggressive swings though, as you say, Jack softened his swing in the middle of his career. I believe that aggression in the swing, particularly continuing into the follow through, is a likely cause of injuries while young (Tiger, Zalatoris). Give me a Snead or a Watson any day for long-lasting golfing health. Allow the club to pull you into the follow through.
@@edlasatergolf In all sports "swinging a stick", if the stick has weight, the stick swings past the hands. There is no way our hands are strong enough to stop it. The idea that some pros push, that the hands can lead and stay ahead of the club, at speed, is clearly impossible. At P6 the toe is up, at P8 it is also up as the club rotates. The differences are marginal, in the "modern" swing, top pros rotate the shoulders harder and faster but the club always overtakes hands and arms despite, on a big drive, slowing from 120mph to about 70mph at impact. I recall the great Lee Trevino demonstrating how he kept the hands ahead of the club head, he took a half swing with a wedge, hit ball and a huge divot, the club head stopped completely and he posed with the hands ahead on the follow through. Feel v real, maybe.
@@edlasatergolf just wrote a long reply to you then deleted it somehow. Old age! Try again: As I said, differences are marginal with good players. All open up hips and chest. My concern is the speed at which many modern pros force the hips and shoulders, "towing" the club. I would never teach the average, overweight, deskbound golfer to swing like Niemann or Zalatoris. When Zalatoris played our 2021 Open here in UK, he hit a wedge from heavy rough, the wedge stopped dead in the rough while his hips continued to open. Withdrew. Then again this year. Career could be over. Morikawa also had back trouble, had to change his swing. In their 20s. Niemann will not be competing in his 40s. My golf career finished at 33, copying Trevino, I was in a steel corset for 6 months. The only good player I know who stands up on the ds was Ian Woosnam, 5ft 4in but very powerful. Another who starts to stand up at P5 is Ed Lasater:). Just found an old video of yours. Nice swing, not like the aggressive, modern swing. I would just like to see the left arm fold earlier on the follow through. So, I like the rotational swing around a straight back (McIlroy) with a hand release and arm release. Chasing speed with a violent hip opening is dangerous for most. Old and decrepit now, I am a retired PGA pro in UK passing time by disagreeing with many TH-cam pros. Most can't take it, they hurl abuse at me so thank you for your polite replies.
Another “golf school with Milo” Memtion. As I said before. Milo is about Milo like Brendan. Don’t go to the schools. They will talk about their swings, game, who they know etc. They will not pay this level of interaction with you. Just watch the vids record your swing for comparison. Don’t give these guys your money.

Tow is like front wheel drive as opposed to rear wheel drive. Or pulling a water skier with a boat.
Search milo lines and “tow” and you should find some stuff, they’ve talked about this in the past.

The lead wrist can have a large variance but the HackMotion study showed the lead wrist is almost always neutral

Clearly you’ve never seen high speed players such as Milo Lines.

Meaning he’s pushing his lead leg away from the direction of rotation so hard that it causes his lead foot to rainbow backwards

So Vardon, Jones, Snead, Hogan, Nicklaus, Mickelson, Tiger were doing it all wrong? You are telling club golfers to swing like Joaquin Niemann? Will Zalatoris? Are you sponsored by chiropractors? All these modern teaching pros teach all this stuff but actually swing and release like the old guys.
I agree with you but people confuse the handsy or armsy feeling for something bad Hogan said he wish he had 3 right hands jack said I try to throw or use my right hand as early as possible so did alot of old golfers aswell the armsy/handsy feel is what actually produces what we are looking for but many have turned away cause the main thing for teachers is making the money and most people will believe what's popular or popular opinion if someone tells me that how could that work and go on about how bad it is I just simply ignore them and it's more wisdom and knowledge I gained.
@@BGM6474 great points. People need to remember feel versus real. Also, if you watched Jacks’ swing before the 70’s he was very rotational, for whatever reason in the 70’s and on he started to slide and throw. Eventually, he need surgery in his right lower back and left hip. From what I’ve seen only two players of prominence in that time period never changed their swing that was Arnie and Gary and neither had significant injuries.

@@edlasatergolf Jack had back trouble in his teens, receiving cortisone shots, Arnie famously had bursitis of the hip (as I remember). Both had very powerful, aggressive swings though, as you say, Jack softened his swing in the middle of his career. I believe that aggression in the swing, particularly continuing into the follow through, is a likely cause of injuries while young (Tiger, Zalatoris). Give me a Snead or a Watson any day for long-lasting golfing health. Allow the club to pull you into the follow through.
@@edlasatergolf In all sports "swinging a stick", if the stick has weight, the stick swings past the hands. There is no way our hands are strong enough to stop it. The idea that some pros push, that the hands can lead and stay ahead of the club, at speed, is clearly impossible. At P6 the toe is up, at P8 it is also up as the club rotates. The differences are marginal, in the "modern" swing, top pros rotate the shoulders harder and faster but the club always overtakes hands and arms despite, on a big drive, slowing from 120mph to about 70mph at impact. I recall the great Lee Trevino demonstrating how he kept the hands ahead of the club head, he took a half swing with a wedge, hit ball and a huge divot, the club head stopped completely and he posed with the hands ahead on the follow through. Feel v real, maybe.

As I said, differences are marginal with good players. All open up hips and chest. My concern is the speed at which many modern pros force the hips and shoulders, "towing" the club. I would never teach the average, overweight, deskbound golfer to swing like Niemann or Zalatoris. When Zalatoris played our 2021 Open here in UK, he hit a wedge from heavy rough, the wedge stopped dead in the rough while his hips continued to open. Withdrew. Then again this year. Career could be over. Morikawa also had back trouble, had to change his swing. In their 20s. Niemann will not be competing in his 40s. My golf career finished at 33, copying Trevino, I was in a steel corset for 6 months.
The only good player I know who stands up on the ds was Ian Woosnam, 5ft 4in but very powerful. Another who starts to stand up at P5 is Ed Lasater:). Just found an old video of yours. Nice swing, not like the aggressive, modern swing. I would just like to see the left arm fold earlier on the follow through.
So, I like the rotational swing around a straight back (McIlroy) with a hand release and arm release. Chasing speed with a violent hip opening is dangerous for most.

They will not pay this level of interaction with you.
Just watch the vids record your swing for comparison. Don’t give these guys your money.
I beg to differ, we’ve seen dramatic changes in performance and understanding in students within a two day session.
Have you attended one of my schools? Have I worked with you individually online or in person? I'm sorry you feel this way, or perhaps this is just your perception. I have not received a negative response from anyone who has formerly attended one of our schools, even after asking for feedback and reviews. This would be news to me.
