    I just ordered 3 sets of seeds (-1- Schottii Forma Cristata -2- Aloe polyphylla -3- Aloe Vaombe (Giant Madagascar Aloe, Malagasy Tree)). I'm sooo excited to try your bag method. I'm a newb so I'll be watching your videos frequently to make sure I don't screw things up :). From seedlings to baby succulents and onward.

    What a lovely video... I have decided to keep my greenhouse 55 degrees during the day and 45 at night for the winter. I think that will be perfect.... I moved in some 'sensitive' guys like echeverias... Very good advice! If you get time you should do a conservatory/ greenhouse update soon

    This was very interesting! I hope I'm not giving the wrong temperature to my Mother of Thousand babies. They are on a humidity tray with the orchids, and it's around 25 C degrees there during the day, and they are under lights. The pot is quite small. At some point I will have to repot them, but I think they can still be there a little longer. The gasteria is also there in the same conditions.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Orchids & a Dutchy Thanks so much Andrea for your wonderful comment :-) The great news is your Mother of Thousands babies and Gasteria will be perfect at that temperature, as the extra heat , lights and humidity will encourage them to grow quicker and grow strong roots while they are still young, when they get larger you can pot them up and keep them on the drier side as by then they will be well established :-) Thanks so much for watching, and sending both you and adorable Hugo loads of love and plant power from Ireland for a FANTASTIC evening XXXXXX

    I read where you are having a problem with condensation in your conservatory and wondered if possibly a small dehumidifier might not help you out especially since your cactus would not require the humidity required to do well with orchids for example. You could always shut it off when you want to. We use them a lot here in the U.S. in basements (cellars) to reduce the humidity. Hope it works out. Maybe you could look for a used one? Always good to save a few bucks. :)

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jackie Binkley Thank you so much Jackie for suggesting the dehumidifier :-) We have got one that we bought last year and it does make a massive difference but we still have a lot of condensation even when we leave the dehumidifier on all day and night, because our house is so damp, its amazing how much water that we empty out of the container from the dehumidifier and it works a treat in our other rooms, but the conservatory is still a problem with the amount of condensation, its unbelievable where the water all comes from, I think I need to get a dehumidifier the size of a tank haha! Thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching Jackie and sending you an abundance of love and happiness from Ireland for a fantastic afternoon XXXXX

    I’ve just started a mix of cacti seed. I have a grow light on and a small heat pad. My house is around 71f. Should I use the heat pad? I know about 70 is good for seedlings. Maybe use the pad until they germinate? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Love to you and Hans!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kaitlyn :-D thats fantastic you are growing cacti from seed, its so much fun to sow or I should say 'its SOW much fun to sow' haha :-D you don't need to use a heat pad if you have the temperature at 71f but a heat pad would definitely encourage faster germination if you wanted to use one, and then you could remove the heat pad once they have germinated, good luck with your seeds and let us know when they germinate Kaitlyn :-D thanks a million for watching and Hans and I are sending tons of love and happy growing from Ireland for a wonderful Tuesday today XXXXX

    How do you sterilize the soil that you talked about?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Maltese Hi Michael :-) Thanks so much for watching and for your comment :-) You can sterilize the soil by using a microwave as in this video here at 1.38 :th-cam.com/video/GJ0E91skZXI/w-d-xo.html or you can also use an oven but I have never used this method as it takes a lot longer, microwaving the soil helps to sterilize all the bad bacterias and molds etc from the soil :-) Sending you much love and happy growing from Ireland and have a FANTASTIC day ahead XXXXX
