My grandfather worked for a city garage. He would regularly tell his supervisors, "I need X tool to complete Y job." and would be told, "Sorry, it's not in the budget." then he would buy X tool out of his own pocket. When he retired he started packing up all the tools he'd purchased and his supervisor at the time said, "You can't take those, we need them!" Grandpa showed him all the receipts, which he had saved, and said, "These are my tools, I paid for them, this department should have purchased them when I told them they were needed." In retirement Grandpa had a VERY well equipped garage and did most of the work on cars and motors of all his kids and grandkids.

On the one hand, great story. On the other, if the worker keep buying things out of their own pockets when told the employer won't for whatever reason, of course there's never going to be budgets for it. They know they'll still get the tool and wouldn't have to pay for it. (Yes, until the employee leaves with it...)

I bet he was such a boon to you guys. My grandpa and my uncle (his brother) owned a garage in town and they helped with all their kids and grandkids too. My grandpa was the one who taught me how to drive, went with me to pick out my first car, taught me how to take care of it, and helped me whenever there was a issue which honestly there was barely any with his guidance! I had that car for 2 years before it needed any work on it and to this day my uncle told me that my car had the cleanest interior he's ever worked on and he's proud of how well I keep the thing going. I miss my grandpa but these are awesome memories I can only attribute to him :)

Story 2: I've done something similar, but with a different medical condition. It's kinda similar to hypoglycemia except with fats, protein and iron. Basically if I don't eat some kind of protein or fat when my body tells me to, I get very weak and anemic. Depending on my activity level for the day, this can trigger every 2-4 hours, so I always carry things like nuts, jerky, potato chips, slim Jim's, etc. Usually just something small and portable to hold me over till my next meal. Well the first doggy daycare I worked at didn't think this was a real issue and forbade me from having a snack on me or to be able to leave group to eat one. So I agreed and next work day volunteered to cover everyones break, by the second breaks end I hadn't eaten in 5 hours. I was leaning against the fence so close to passing out. I was escorted to the break room and people were freaking out about if they needed to call an ambulance and asking me what was wrong. To which I again explained my medical issues and proceeded to eat my snacks as my lunch was heating up. The manager saw that my condition was quickly improving after eating, literally just 15-20 minutes and I was fine. After that they stopped telling me I couldn't have snacks on me, just obvious stipulations of no chocolate and take care of your trash.
My current doggy daycare was significantly more reasonable and even bought all daycare staff a fanny pack so everyone could safely keep snacks or emergency medication (Epipens, inhalers, insulin, etc) on them if they needed to.
Also if you need to identify poison oak (western) or poison ivy (eastern) the absolute easiest way is to check the texture. If it looks rough, kind of like Velcro or sandpaper and glossy like it's covered in oil or lotion, don't touch. Those are very common indicators of a topically poisonous plant.

@@turtlnickel It's a hyper metabolism, unfortunately not much is known about it still and not a lot of doctors take it seriously. Most research done on it is as a temporary symptom that can occur for some diseases. However some people, with a surprisingly strong correlation to people with ADHD, can have a permanent version of it. More or less the metabolism is over active, rather than fully absorbing fats, proteins and nutrients (things the body stores and uses throughout the day) it burns it away too quickly. This can cause anemia or low blood pressure, muscle weakness as well as other issues due to nutrient deficiency. As a result I've also been underweight my entire life, though I am a bit healthier now at 115, only 10lbs below where I should be for my height and age.

My blood sugar was always normal, so they would always tell me that the anemia must be from my monthly and pretty much ignored me. I was seen as a hypochondriac. I would specifically tell them that protein was the issue, not sugar, and they would roll their eyes at me. I'm happy that you are near the weight that you want to be and are healthier now. Story 2 reminds me of my time working the parking lot at my local Home Depot. I live in Florida so it gets REALLY hot out in the parking lot, especially in the middle of the day, so I was walking through the inside of the store whenever I had to go from one end of the store to the other in order to load a customer or something. My front end supervisor noticed this and instructed me to stop spending so much time inside. I explained to her that It was over 100 degrees outside, so I was using the A/C to regulate my temperature and using the water fountain near the Garden center to keep my water topped up. She disregarded this and reiterated "I don't want to see you inside. You are supposed to be outside collecting carts and loading customers." I have an issue with incompetent leadership, so I decided to teach her a lesson. I did as I was told and didn't go inside AT all the rest of my shift. I would wait by the door for customers rather than going to the register that called me, and I wasn't drinking as much water so I wouldn't run out. After a couple hours in the Florida sun on asphalt, I was experiencing the signs of heat exhaustion and moving toward heat stroke. I got another loading call and was waiting outside the door very unsteadily. I was unable to stand up straight and was sort of swaying in place. The woman promoting special windows at the door noticed and asked if I was okay. I told her I probably wasn't, to which she replied I should go inside and cool off. I explained what my supervisor told me and that I couldn't go inside. She proceeded to go inside and get the manager on duty to override my orders and force me to go inside. Apparently, those associates promoting special products are actually corporate level employees and have a bit of power in the store. I was ushered into the break room, given Gatorade to rehydrate, and told I could have the rest of the day off. My supervisor never hassled me about walking through the building again.

For the last story: that sounds EXACTLY like the kind of bs I used to put up with at my training center when teaching in China. They used to ask us to do all sorts of absolutely backwards things and then got huffy when they realized it was just making more work for everyone. The guy who owned the company had no idea what teaching was actually like, so he would always come up with new, "clever" ideas to profit off our labor. Only those "clever" ideas never panned out well, because they relied on just shoving more information down the kids' or their parents' throats without comprehension.
I was so glad to leave that company. I will always miss China, but I think I would rather teach in a public school. To be fair, English training centers are now illegal, so it would have to be a regular school instead.

What the hell is an English training center?

    • @TheHarvestGoddessChloe
      @TheHarvestGoddessChloe ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kyototomokui6676 It's after school and weekend tutoring in English. The concept was that Chinese kids would come to the training center to learn English in an immersive environment. Most schools start at 2-3 years old to get the most benefit, and they continue well into their teenage years. The children would learn English as a second language through easy games and activities. The idea was to build up their English ability naturally, as if they were growing up in an actual English environment. But throwing someone into scenarios where people spoke another language for two hours a week doesn't exactly yield fluency, you know? 🙄Heaven forbid the company owner listens to the teachers about their business model's flaws though.

To the last story. I'm guessing the boss wants more accuracy in the reports. By having them use their first language, she eliminates the risk of them making a mistake due to less familiarity with the language. They're also more likely to be more detailed if they're writing it out in a language they're more comfortable with.

For the peanut allergy story. I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. I was working at a pizza place at the flagship location. My boss was the GM for the region and the manager for this store, she and I were friends even before I started working there. Because it was the main location, it was the training location for all the managers and shift leads for the area. We had this one manager in training, MIT, who had this power trip stick up his ass all the time. I'm allergic to olives so when I did the dishes I did all but the olive container and someone else would do the olive bin later. I had the said dish to the side away from my pile and he kept walking by and putting it on the pile to dishes to do. I kept moving it aside so I wouldn't grab it by mistake. After the third time or so he said angrily that I had to do all the dishes. I calmly told him I'm allergic to olives and someone else will have to wash that dish later. He said that olive allergies don't exist, put the dish with olive juice on it into the water i was using and told me to do all the dishes. My GM friend was on shift in a few minutes, so I just did as he asked. By the end of the dishes my hands and arms up to midway up my upper arm were COVERED in hives. I came out from the back while GM was talking with MIT and was intentionally obviously wincing as i was drying my hands on a paper towel. MIT's face turned ghost white, GM turned and looked at my hands and asked if someone put the olive bin in the water again (something people would do by accident sometimes). I just said yes, someone did, and looked at MIT. GM friend got my hint and asked MIT what happened. He sputtered something about not a real allergy and that I was trying to get out of work. My friend went off on him about opening the store to lawsuits, about ADA compliance (idk if alergies count for ADA, but she seemed to think so), about how I'm a good worker and didn't he think it was weird I did the GIANT pile of dishes with no complaints but just didn't do ONE tiny dish, and about how treating subordinates like people instead of automatons would get further. It was worth the pain to watch her yell at him for it. All in all it was actually a cheap lesson for him, as I didn't sue, and he'd never ask someone to do something they couldn't do again.

Story 2: That is actually nuclear malicious compliance material. If he gotten hospitalized for it, then he could've gotten Micheal backlisted from employment or fired immediately.
Story 3: I was expecting the other guy to feel miserable about his challenge being how he gotten sick, but I wasn't expecting that "but I was wrong" part.

That last story is a classic case of "poor choice of words". Since the management is based in China, my assumption is that they wanted all the reports solely in Mandarin, which I CAN understand, since Mandarin is widely spoken in the PRC. I am guessing that management assumed the foreign teachers all speak Mandarin at home, which there is some truth in it: if you don't know any Mandarin or their lexicon entering the countryside, you will face problems. Well ... someone assumed wrongly.

Second story: I have my own. I’ve always had a problem about my swear odor. It stinks bad. So, when my mother and I came across a lemon-based deodorant that actually worked we were thrilled about it. Long story short, the deodorant caused me hives after a week of use, but my father (who’s nose is very sensitive, I get it, but come on) wasn’t taking it. He made me use the deodorant because “we’ve spent a lot of money in a dozen of that just to throw it away”. So, I complied. That evening I was crying out of pain because the deodorant not only caused me hives, but it actually was eating my skin. That was painful. My mother scolded my dad, but I was in charge of my own pain. It took two hole weeks to heal.

Last story, there is malice, and there is a douchbag mean person, it is just that this time it is OP that fills those criteria.
Asking the staff to write in their native language makes everything easier for the staff. They have a manager who is willing to put in the effort to translate afterwards. So douchebag OP thinks "Wow, rather than being grateful to have a boss that wants things to be easier for their staff, I need to find a way to fuck with their day."
OP is an absolute see you next Tuesday!

When I was 18, I worked for a plywood plant. I was on the "clean up crew" (they hired college kids during the summer to run weed eaters and other side jobs that are usually done in the summertime). One day, the boss had me weed eating at the back end of the property the plant was on, and the whole area I was cutting was covered with poison ivy. I didn't think anything about it because, as a kid, I used to mess around with it all the time, and it never bothered me. The next day, when I came to work, I was broke out all over my arms and legs. That's when I found out you can develop a sensitivity later in life. My boss gave me these little wipe things like alcohol prep pads, I still don't know what they were, but they worked like a charm. After using them, the itch stopped immediately, and the rash was gone by the next day.

I worked for two years at a startup after being unemployed for a long time due to layoffs. That place was horrible; we got TWO sick days a year and my job had MANDATORY overtime that was open-ended (finish all your work or you can't leave and if you do you'll be terminated). My immediate manager was a woman who obviously had no life outside the job, so not only was she a constant pain in my arse, she also had a tendency to hover and her people skills were virtually nil.
I held on as long as I could and thank GOD I found a better job; better hours, better pay, and half the commute. Altogether a win win. And the day I left (telling no one I was leaving), my last act before I walked out the door was to hit "send" on an email I had composed basically slamming the company as a toxic work environment.

First Story: So basically the owner assumed OP wasn’t going to quit and decided it would he a good idea not to hire a replacement. All of that costed him his business
Second Story: The owners knew that Jake could’ve sued for what Michael made him due. Michael was being creepy with high schoolers?! Wtf
Comment: Well, OP is willing to sacrifice themselves to be right lmao
Third Story: This is what happens when ur professor is being a dick. Imagine complaining about someone cleaning up earlier than usual
Fourth Story: OP's boss sounds like a lazy, useless prick. This guy has the mindset of "the new guy should just figure it out". Thats what he gets for being a douché, having his battery die
Fifth Story: Lmao, this manager tried to screw over an employee that knew how to do their job better than her and it completely backfired
Sixth Story: Lmaoooo this is perfect. I mean she did say right in their native language, everyone just did exactly that

my manager thought i could be replaced, since her right hand works weekends and i work monday-friday with a instructor, that instructor was horrible at training and didnt know how to look at stats which are huge every shift part, the weekend guys just sat at phones and couldnt deal with 70 euros per hour, while i ran 130 alone all areas.
So when i changed locations, they had to hire 3part time workers to cover 4shifts a week to cover me, took them almost a year to replace me with anyone, and guess what i work at head location training new workers and my old location is hiring again.
