    You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

    The reason the instructions are vague is because the slider saws are usually asembled for you, or atleast, they are meant to be assembled for you. The main felder market is in europe, where the saws are always assembled and tested by felder techs. I bought the K500S, it took the tech half a day to put it together...

    Looking back would you have gone with a longer slider for breaking down sheet goods or making longer hardwood cuts. I think you mention you have a 78" or around that size?

    • @brianwelling
      @brianwelling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I had the space then yes. A longer slider would not have fit well in my shop and I don’t break down enough full sheets for it to be a top priority. It’s a little awkward with full sheets but can still be done with what I have reasonably well.

  • @ericwilliams538

    I have a question about the assembly of the fence on the slide. Will material go in front of the fence when cutting or behind?? I'm asking because, if your material was behind the fence as you are sliding up to the blade, once the material makes contact with the blade, wouldn't that cause a potential "kick back" of the material???
    It just seems the the material would go in the front of the fence????

    • @brianwelling
      @brianwelling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Material can go either front or back of the fence with minor adjustments. I generally have the parts in front for general cutting (solid woods etc) and behind the fence for sheet goods. I have not had issues with kickback.

    Just bought this exact same machine and had it delivered one week ago. Have to admit that after having my MSW 3.2m Panel Saw for years this new one looked like a childs toy in comparison, but have to admit I do like the smaller size and the fact that I can still cut full panels on it. Have you had any problems with the electronic braking. I worry that it is so violent that I wonder about its longevity.

      The Miter Index is probably the most underwhelming part of the saw. Its just not close enough to being as accurate as it should be. I feel like there should have been a better way to implement this. This is an area I will be looking into making my own mitering system in the near future.

    Now that you’ve had this saw for a year how do you like it? I think I got mine about the same time as you k 500 s with a 9 foot slider. It’s been great I’ve cut probably 200 sheets of plywood and about 1500 bd ft of solid wood with it. The only issue I’ve had is that the wheel that supports the extension wing gets gunned up and makes the slider sticky.

      @@tundrawhisperer4821 the telescopic support arm that holds up the 90 degree fence rolls on 4 nylon wheels. They are adjustable and live inside the tube that is attached to the saw. There is a small plastic brush that is meant to keep debris from getting the wheels and it doesn’t get all the dust. It starts to stick to the top front wheel and will make the wheel squeak and also provide some resistance to turning. About once a month I take the brush foo the front and wipe the wheel down. Not a big deal and should just be part of your maintenance routine

    • @brianwelling
      @brianwelling  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had it about six months now. I looked at every brand that I could find and quickly chose Felder as they had many positive reviews and content online that showed their equipment. They have reasonable presence in the US which helps as well. The people over at Felder USA were very helpful answering questions without trying to sell me something that I did not want. Very happy with the machine so far.

    • @tundrawhisperer4821
      @tundrawhisperer4821 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      brian welling thank you for that, those are all valid points that I have also experienced with Felder. I have it narrowed down to three machines that I feel are all pretty comparable, the K700S Felder, Altendorf WA6, & SCM SI 315 ES. they all offer slightly different builds to one another, but with Felder’s customer service so far, they have the upper hand. SCM wins in pricing for sure, but it may be a thing where you get what you pay for. Many have told me the Altendorf is the beefiest of the these three. My biggest frustration is where to go so one can get in front of these machines to see them in person and physically check them out. You mentioned to another person yours is the 81” slider table. Is this the actual table length or the stroke that the table will go, while cross cut fence is set at its furthest forward position, and clearing the blade on a cut? Have you had a chance to do the 5 cut, or the 3 cut, method on a sheet of plywood to see the squaring accuracy? Thx

    • @brianwelling
      @brianwelling  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The slider is actually 80.5" and it cuts the entire 80.5" as it slides more than the length of the slider by a bit. The cross cut has been very accurate and also has an easy adjustment if it needs to be squared.@@tundrawhisperer4821

      Tundra Whisperer
      Tundra, for what it’s worth. I have a FELDER K700 p & I love it. I have several Felder pieces of equipment as well as SCMI & MiniMax. It’s my recommendation that you should not purchase the SCMI equipment. It’s not as refined or accurate as the Felder & service isn’t great. Altendorf is an outstanding machine & fantastic in every way. My only complaint with them is they just make panel saws. Another reason I chose Felder. My thinking was that if I purchased a planer or bandsaw or even an edge bander. They would all look similar, which is important to me, and I would be dealing with one company. Best of luck in your decision.

    I have a K700P with the same outrigger table. It came almost identically packaged. Are you happy with the one you got? It's a really nice saw.
    Main differences I see are the blade area. I have a flip-open part, not a slide-back shroud. I know the trunnion etc. is different on the 500 vs 700.
    FWIW, I couldn't understand a fair bit of what you were saying when you overdubbed over stuff like assembling the mobility kit. I suggest increasing the voice-over volume in future videos. Also, you can normalize audio using the video editor so if you have it cranked up to hear the voice-over, you don't load your pants when the saw audio comes on at the end :D

    • @Psychlist1972
      @Psychlist1972 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Audio aside, I do hope you post more videos. There aren't enough folks with Hammer/Felder/etc. saws on YT showing how they work. Some of the expensive cabinet saws, like the Saw Stop, get up in the same price range when you add the options that a euro saw has by default, and those saws are all over YT.

    he made mistake, biggest mistake, than you get felder do not sighn any papers untill you unpack machine check any scratch. as if there is even small cratch it wont work properly, take your time to look and than only than you completely seee machine is pperfect than sighn. as if you not felder wont refund anything. they willl drop on transporting all blame, and transporting done by hired random 3 party. the sec you sighn all refund goes out. now check any miscalculation of saw and demand fixes from felder. as parts are no joke its huge prices, also order service for machine, best would be what service men would unpack and would look if its ok, yes this is the best quality you can buy on earth. machine cuts by micron precision, it can do crazy things, he just damaged the machine, do not do this, machine is not ment to move, than people will learn if there is no wheels there must be no wheels, it must be standing in one place. he just voided warranty. basically he has no warranty now. do not pull or push like those cheap table saws from those milwakee or whatever, those are trash. you must place it in floor and thats it you dont move it and if you move at first you must push over lower part, its not ment for moving you place level it and thats it, if you move it constanlty you should not buy it, as you simply damaged machien leveling
