    Corris Railway No. 4 returned to Corris in its centenary year for a gala event and series of photo charters. This was the first time No. 4 has visited Corris this century, it's last visit being October 1996, before the line started operating passenger services. The locomotive is now Talyllyn Railway No.4 Edward Thomas and joined resident new build Tattoo Class Corris Railway No. 7.
    A short but scenic line, we see footage of both locomotives on a mixture of mixed, passenger and goods workings, including the newly outshopped carriage 23, running between Maespoeth Junction and Corris station in both single and double headed formations.

    5:04 I actually like that Darth Vader breathing-like sound while No.7 was chuffing, it sounds like the engine was struggling with the train and taking deep breathes to keep on puffing

    I've always wondered, why does Corris No.7's chuffing sound so much like its out of breath compared to Edward Thomas?

    • @Steam_1402
      @Steam_1402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As Edward Thomas was built to the imperial system, whilst No.7 was built to the Metric system and modern design, so the chimney on No.7 is wider then Edward Thomas's chimney, creating that "out of breath" sound on No.7

      @@Steam_1402 Hmm that doesn't account for the a fact its beat/timing sounds awful and it sounds remarkably like its got valve blow or bad rings. Its a good job the green one was able to pull it around!

    • @Steam_1402
      @Steam_1402 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hedgehogm6203 No.7's beat and timing is perfectly fine, along with its valves and rings. It only sounds like that as on No.7 (again, being built to the metric system) has a much stronger, singular beat compared to No.4 due to it's cylinders being bigger.
      From the cylinders being much bigger, more steam has to travel into them, allowing slower piston strokes at low speed, and again, creating the "out of breath" sound it does with one loud beat at the beginning (along with the steam being flushed out of the chimney, not shot).
      And whenever the regulator is opened and steam travels to the cylinders, which ever one of the cylinders the steam reaches first, becomes the dominant cylinder in the beat and will always be the much stronger and louder "1" in the beat, as the 3 other beats of steam from both of the cylinders are again, flushed out.
      It's similar to 3 cylindered locos with steam getting to the middle cylinder first and that becoming the dominant "1" in the beat.
