    This is what you get from one of the top 1% of the world's greatest pianists ever. A stunning, breathtaking performance, delivered with love and tenderness, of one of Beethoven's most lyrical sonatas that doesn't sound at all as surprisingly radical as it really is.

      Yes it’s amazing! Where’s the other 2 movements?
      Also, when Glenn said: “It’s one of my favorite sonatas, maybe because I have recomposed it” made me laugh since Glenn, to me, recomposes everything he plays.

    It is amazing to look at him while playing. Have any one notice the clockwise whirling motion of his upper body . This is a trademark of Gould's playing. It seems that is entire being is somehow merging with the musical vortex created by the sound that is produced.

    3:54 - 4:06 you can hear where Chopin took his inspiration from (I forget the Chopin piece - one of his ballades or preludes i think - it's much faster than this but obviously taken from it)

    • @remon563
      @remon563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I absolutely adore and admire Chopin but the more I learn about music the more I understand, or rather demistify, the musical language of great composers like him. Every composer builds upon each other. The take what they like, assimilate, create, add something new and unto the next unique individual. How beautiful conciousness can be !

    • @militaryandemergencyservic3286
      @militaryandemergencyservic3286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@remon563 Interesting point! So would that be what Chopin was doing when he also copied Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement coda for Fantasie Impromptu?

    • @remon563
      @remon563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@militaryandemergencyservic3286
      to be honest I see both pieces completely differen. In what way did Chopin copy Beethoven ? That some pieces might share a similar harmony does not interest me. Rather I look, or respect, when composers are able to imprint their point of view, their experience of life, upon their music.
      If you compare Hadyn with Scarlatti or Clementi there is a ton of overlap and cross-referencing between their works, both melodically and harmonic/structurally. In my opinion this is because music is a type of language that gets colletively explored. Sometimes a certain individual becomes so masterful in understanding this language that he alone will drive our understanding forward. In essence music is one of humanities greatest tool for expanding the way we epxerience life, the expanding of our conciousness.

    • @militaryandemergencyservic3286
      @militaryandemergencyservic3286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@remon563 Yeah - good point. Anyway the way he copied was Chopin evidently took the parts 3:54 - 4:06 and copied them into his 4th Scherzo (just before the coda) - and he did the same with the part before the coda of the 3rd movement of the Moonlight sonata - and copied them into hs Fantasie Impromptu. It is evident because both the Moonlight and the Fantasie Impromptu are in the same key - c sharp minor - and both this Sonata of Beethoven and Chopin's great 4th ballade are in the same key - E major. And, of course, the passages are almost (or exactly) note for note idetical.
