    The false bottom can be made from the sturdy plastic mats from dollar tree and/or the plastic table mats from dollar tree as well. Cut them to size and cover with fabric. I have also used the cardboard boxes from the post office (free) and cut to size and cover with fabric.

      Thanks for sharing! I like the table mat idea. It would be both stiff and waterproof.🥰 Happy sewing, 💕 Lisa

    Hi! I enjoyed your ideas! The last few years I have been including a sewing kit in OCC boxes for older girls. I make a pincushion, needle book, scissors keep and zippered pouch. I also include a pill bottle which I modpodge for keeping broken/bent needles and pins. This year I also made book sleeves (Pin Cut Sew youtube). I hope to make covers for notebooks to include. If I get time, I may make a tote bag like you made. Very cute:)

    Thank you for such a great amount of information. I have contributed to the Christmas Boxes here in Australia through church groups. Included with the handmade hats and scarves have been soft teddy bears, which are made in the hoop of an embroidery machine. ❤

      I wondered about teddy bears or other hugables that may be included, thank you for mentioning those. Hate to sound dumb, but do I get my shoe boxes from any source? Thank you for sharing. God bless you and kindest regards to all.

      Yes, kids love receiving a stuffed toy! About the boxes, they have some for purchase on the OCC website and I think from Hobby Lobby. I don't purchase mine. I save any nice size shoe boxes when I buy shoes for our family. I get most of my shoe boxes all ready wrapped from the church that is the collection site for my area. They have ladies that wrap boxes all year and then they give out the boxes in the fall for people to pack. I'm friends with some of the staff there, so they always give me as many boxes as I need. 😀 I've also had friends and family save me their shoe boxes. It's best if you can get boxes that don't have the hinged lids. I find them very difficult to wrap. Once you have your box or boxes, wrap the lid and box separately in Christmas wrapping paper. Hope this helps! Happy sewing, 💕 Lisa

    On your nylon cords, once tied, you can run a flame over the ends to melt them a little to keep them from fraying. Do it with plenty of fresh air.

    • @thesouthernseamstress
      @thesouthernseamstress  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought that might work, but hadn't tried it, so thanks for confirming that! I will give it a try. I really didn't want to leave tape on the ends! 🤨 Happy Sewing! 🥰 Lisa

    You could use plastic canvas too for the inside bottom of the ditty drawstring bags.

    • @thesouthernseamstress
      @thesouthernseamstress  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for sharing! I haven't ever worked with plastic canvas, so I'll have to check it out next time I'm at Hobby Lobby. I guess fabric spray adhesive could be used since the canvas wouldn't be fusible. Happy sewing, 🥰 Lisa

    You could also use batting between the quilter’s cotton on the Kim Clutch and quilt it. They could be used as a case for their glasses that way and it would give it structure for general use. To secure the ends of the cording on your drawstring bag you can use a lighter to melt the ends, as long as it is synthetic and not cotton. Cotton will burn, but synthetics will just melt. That way you don’t need to use tape.

    You have made some really lovely items.
    So far I’ve made some simple bags and pouches for both genders, and some hair scrunchies for girls.
    I’m always on the lookout for stationery items and small toys!
    Do you put balloons in your boxes? I have done previously, but the people I join with, don’t like them (I think because they can be a choking hazard and people can develop a latex allergy). As a child, I loved balloons.
    …and, I’ve already bought a 50 pack of punch ball balloons. 😮
    Billie.

    • @thesouthernseamstress
      @thesouthernseamstress  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! I'm sure all those things will be much loved and appreciated. I do not put regular balloons in my boxes because of the choking hazard. I have put the thicker, bouncy ball type ones in before that have a strap attached. I'll be loading up on school supplies soon. I need to remember to get them on "tax free" weekend. In Arkansas, that will be August 3-4th. I'm not sure that all states have a "tax free" weekend for back-to-school items. Happy sewing, 💕 Lisa

      @@thesouthernseamstress - thank you for replying - yes the balloons I have, have an elastic attached too, but they could still be a choking hazard - I think I’ll give them to the scouts instead (we can warn them to be careful and watch them - they love balloons, and we can use them for relay races and just general fun)!
      Sadly we don’t have tax free weekends here in England, but thankfully they’re not expensive.

    • @thesouthernseamstress
      @thesouthernseamstress  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very nice video. May I make a suggestion? I have my volume all the way up and I am not hard of hearing but I am having a difficult time hearing you. Maybe your microphone is too far away?? Thank you for your kind and giving heart.

      @thesouthernseamstress  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear about the volume problem. I've listened to my videos on multiple devices and haven't had any problems hearing them. Do you use your phone, computer, TV? My microphone is only about two feet from me, but I did go into my settings and bump up the volume a couple of clicks. Maybe that will help. 😀 Thanks for watching! 💕 Lisa

      Use closed captions to help follow. Accents, tone of voice issues won't always be resolved by upping volume I learned as a nurse and now hearing impaired even with aids some speakers I Fi d hard to follow. I use Closed Caption . CC icon on videos that have it. This lady has it available for her videos.
      For Presenter I hoped to say this off screen but couldn't. Reading on screen hand written notes is hard on you and us, Write out your notes then Type them in BOLD and in font size large enough for you can read at a glance. Prefer to read hand written notes for videos? Write with bold black marker pen, space out your writing so you leave blank lines between each written line so it's easier to read from a distance. Try it out, test run video to see if you find it easier and you are not bending over notes pausing to do so.
      Prop your notes on a book stand/ cushion or use scanned images on a Tablet or out of view computer screen to read them closer to eye level.
      There are tablet/ book stands you can make/ cover so make that another project that once done is kept on screen in future videos as something viewers can see and consider doing themselves.
      No offence meant, simply suggestions to make it easier for you and to keep you connected to viewers. Thanks for all the time you take off camera as well as on it.
