Mr. Tarantula kat thinks we should name him Gumbo or Étouffée. What do you think?
I prefer Gumbo... "Étouffée" makes me feel strange because it is French and the meaning of the word is quite negative. Unless Mr. Tarantula Kat is talking about cooking? 😅 I suggest "Blue" as in his claws 🖤

Hi Kat!! I'm happy you have a pet crawdad!! Just a little trivia, they have to come out of the water sometimes. It re-hardens their shells. If you don't let him come out, he will die 😞That's why mine died. His name was Sebastian after the Little Mermaid character. Also, he will eat just about anything he can get a hold of. Mine loved bacon, yes, I gave him raw bacon. Try a piece of dog food and he will probably eat that up too. They all have different personalities as with tarantulas. Also, you can place your hands behind his head and he won't be able to pinch you. They are fantastic cleaners for fish tanks and fun to watch. If you put him in with fish, he will eat them if he can catch them, so watch out!!! Enjoy!!!!!! 🙂
Would you suggest lowering the water level enough to place a turtle dock if it's a tank set up like this?
The new crayfish is so cute!! I would maybe lower the water a level a bit and put a log or rock in that sits above the surface so he can get out of the water once in awhile. I had pet crabs once and didn't realize they needed to come out of the water occasionally, so every time they crawled up to the top I would tap them back into the water. Obviously they didn't last very long and I felt SO BAD when I found out why!😳

The reason for bubbles is that it’s expressing air trapped in its shell from being out of water. Totally normal.
I think Gumbo is a great name! Also, you should ask Gumbo to mow your lawn since he seems to enjoy cutting and eating grass :P!

Now that you have a ”grumpy” crayfish, 😉, I thought that you may be interested by Brady Brandwood channel (same name). About a year ago he bought a lobster from a grocery store to give him a second chance, he named him Leon. I found his channel completely by accident and I never thought that seeing a lobster thriving in a huge aquarium would be so fun to watch. Those critters are really smart.

I just wanted to thank you, you got my mom so far away from her phobia, she can even watch some tarantulas you get by now. She love your calm way to handle spoods - and she loves you personaly. We even got 2 jumpers by now and a regius is on the horizon once mina, our first one will pass one day.

I've been watching you for a while now. And let me tell you, that in itself is a feat. I never had a huge fear of spiders until I was 8 months pregnant with my son, and our friend got drunk on his birthday. His present was a beautiful rose hair. Where it went south, was he pinned me in a corner trying to get me to hold her. I broke down, and had a panic attack that landed me in the hospital. Afterwards, the word spider would throw me into a fit. But I slowly started watching around the same time I started watching Ants Canada. I would start with just a few minutes. Now, I can watch multiple videos of yours, and appreciate your babies for their beauty. Thank you for helping me reclaim my love of gorgeous critters!

I used to keep crayfish and some are awesome. My one Clauss was friendly over time, I could hold him and let other people pet him. He got to be about 7-8 inches and lived 6 years. He loved eating cherry tomatoes and shrimp pellets. I had a large rock he could walk through but also get on top of so he can get partly out of the water if he wanted to.
As someone who grew up catching crawdads, pinches never hurt. It was just a pinch. I just googled it and some people were saying they can break skin, so I guess it depends!
I had to laugh such a big scoop for such a small crib, that crawfish looks awsome in that tank
Definitely keep the tank lid on with no gaps for Mr. Yabbie because they can "swim" to the top of the tank and pull themselves out, speaking from experience we have had a couple decide to go for a walk about, lucky they make alot of noise on titles so easy to find

! not sure if you are already told this, but the bamboo-looking plants (yellow and green in the background) are not water plants, so you may want to keep an eye on them :)

Aww. I miss my crawfish. I raised mine from a little tiny baby. He lived for a long time and died of old age. He got huge. His name was big red and his gf was named Lacey. I hope your 'lobster' warms up to you. Mine use to love attention
I once had a boring brown crawfish that after a molt turned a beautiful baby blue. I still don't know how it happened. She ended up escaping into my box turtle enclosure and became lunch, I was devastated.

You'll prob need a bigger tank for that crayfish. They'll get bigger and they need a lot of walking space. I keep one. They will eat live plants. Also, when they pinch you it won't draw blood but it does hurt
@tarantulakat you need to do a petko and use a small waterbottle cut in half as a substrate scoop, can squeeze to fit into smaller openingss c;

Awesome! I saw dozens of crawfish almost every year, from 1985-2004.
And guess what? One day, I was bowled over, feasting my eyes in a crawfish that was 2× as long, 2× as wide as any adult I'd ever seen before. 2005
It was 6 inches, and so beautiful.
managed to capture it, and kept it going for about 6 months.
I did NOT do research about care.
The crawfish managed to somehow actually escape one day. 😐 RIP

If you like crayfish, then you need to look into nano shrimp very interesting and you can have hundreds of them in a cheap 10 gallon from Walmart
