We had a Pinball Fantasies tournament at the weekend. It seemed like the A600GS had issues running it. Pinball Dreams was ok but with some stutter at points breaking the illusion of smooth pinball. Room for improvement. I think RPi3 level machines are marginal with Amiga game emulation. THEA500 Mini is optismised just about enough and with tweaking of some copper/blitter intensive games it is passable especially with soft modding. The MiST and MiSTer are on a different level with very impressive copper/blitter performance. I'm sure the Vampire SA is probably similar. Horses for courses.
I think my only gripe with it is the online account stuff to get people to their App Store, and that the processor in it is really lower end for the price / their clunky dashboard. Its an orange pi if I remember correctly in that box. The a500 mini is more powerful, and a Pi4 way more. Hopefully they mature the software and emulation over time. The more Amiga the merrier.
The smoothness of Pinball Dreams for instance wasn't ideal when I saw it at the weekend. The Mini seems more optimised for games (especially the ones bundled). A Pi4 level processor may have been a better choice for the A600GS?
The difference when I watch your "under produced" channel is it feels like I've gone round to a mate's house and they're showing me their new toy rather than on many other channels it feels like I'm watching a technical demo or sales pitch.
Thank you! That’s all I ever try to be. Just an Amiga guy hanging with his pals showing him this stuff. Not here to make 1-million subs and sell t-shirts. ;)
would hve been nice if there was at least full fat hdmi port i could maybe get on board with it, as it is it just doesnt seem to be a finished product yet
This is Amiga Kit / A-EON intro into the arm space. Its promotes their programs and could be the start of a new direction for them. Chips architecture is changing.
I don't think this is A-Eon getting in to the ARM hardware space. It's simply another option for a 'quick and dirty' route into nostalgia. That isn't a criticism, I think the emulation based retro console/computer craze is a good thing. The more the merrier... but this isn't anytning new or groundbreaking. It's just a standard, cheap ARM SBC fitted in a custom case, a copy of Arm Linux and a customised Amiga like GUI with some software. If A-Eon were really interested in making a proper alternative to a 'classic' Amiga, they should probably be looking at FPGA, not software emulation. Preferably a 'Maxi' version with full working keyboard, much like the C64 Maxi etc.
@@another3997 Wishful thinking, I am not a fan of todays direction in computers. Have always respected the Amiga community will to survive and keep the software and older hardware going. Plus develop some newer ones they can change the course.
I'm sorry, but you're not supposed to switch it off like that. There is a special way at the bottom of the options bar on the left of the mainscreen where you need to switch it off. Ok, if you do it once, it probably won't break, but in theory maybe it can happen `when doing it like that all the time. I have the same thing myself too and yes, I have many real Amigas too, it may not be my thing, but I was thinking, it's a nice thing for the time, waiting to have my PiStorm A1200 ready built up. The future looks bright that way. The A600GS also was a nice thing to bring with me, to visit a bunch of Commodore clubs, and have something to do, without bringing masses of hardware, as heavy as a concrete brick to the party place. Nothing more nothing less. ;-)
@@jimmay8627 Heh I know. I had a similar thing once too after showing off my Amiga @work. After I was done I just pushed the button on the PSU and a coworker shouted out, what did you just do!!! You're not supposed to switch your computer off like that! You must do that by pressing Start and do it the proper way! No you silly, this isn't a Windoze machine but an Amiga, there's no such a Start button to switch it off, it's just press this button and done! We're talking about real computers here dude! You really had to see his face. 😆
You say "turd", but others think it's an okay product. It's not my cup of tea, but it's good that there are options for pretty much anyone, no matter how technically adept or how inclined they are to spend time setting things up.
“I need to dig out my raspberry pi adapter thing” me: Why don’t you dig out the pi too while your at it. 🙃 This is ok but I would just go with a MiSter.
Thanks for the show and tell “Q” 👍🏻 Was going to get one of these. Looks a little too laggy for me, so will pass. Don’t forget that the system is always being worked on with plenty of over the network upgrades. Amigakit own Octamed etc… So yes fully legal 😉
If you have the room, the time and patience to set up and maintain a load of 30+ year old Amigas, that's fine. The trouble is, they won't last forever, nor are they cheap to buy, repair or upgrade, and there are so many variations too. There's a law of diminishing returns. Which is why so many modern alternatives exist. I mean, I would like to have a collection of vintage Amigas again, some more old Apple Macs and PCs to go with the few I have. Plus I want to enlarge my collection of pocket computers, PDAs and mobile phones, and want to own at least two dozen old 8 bit machines. Oh, and I want to collect several more unusual bicycles and tricycles, both uprights and recumbents. Oh, and a collection of classic and modern cars too. And a building to house them all. And mechanics to service them all, and a chauffeur. 😂
Not exactly true, you can have lots of modern alternatives alongside real Amigas. Sometimes it's quicker and easier to run an emulator. Besides, if you take the lid off the 600GS, you'll find "real" hardware in there, just something about 40 years more modern than a real Amiga 600. 😂 Or were you just trying to brag about your collection of toys? 😉
@@another3997 As i’ve said I’m a big fan of emulation. I’ve made plenty of vids too. I even get comments and emails complaining I do too many “emulation” videos, heh. I simply like anything Amiga. It’s why I grabbed a 600GS. Even though I don’t really need it. I made the video much the way I did for folks like me. That’s a large part of my audience. We look at it not very excitedly but still want to talk about it. This isn’t a review channel or a selling channel. It’s Amiga folks hanging out and talking real. :)
Yeah, that's my take too. It's for people that had an Amiga more as a games box and thus very NOT technically inclined, because if you don't mind a little mucking about, an x86 NUC will be close on the price (including Amiga Forever) and with better expansion options. And if you don't mind a bit bigger and 2nd hand, 2nd/3rd gen i3/5 Lenovo/HP SFF's can be had for a song, and work OK as a TV stand+media player+ emulation station, etc... And it's OK, there's a market for everyone. Some people buy an X-Arcade, some buy a stick and a Pi/ESP32 and DIY ;)
If that Samsung TV has USB on the back, you may be able to power it off that. That's what I do with my A500 Mini and my Atari 2600+. No need for an adapter :)
I'd like to say it was an interesting and informative video, but sadly I can't. 🙁 If you had spent a bit of time exploring the system, going through a few trivial steps, and getting it set up properly on your monitor, you could have done it some justice. Instead, all we learned is that you couldn't be bothered. 🙄 Fortunately, there are people out there who have bothered to make an effort, and taken the time to find out it's pros and cons. Something to actually help people understand what it can and cannot do, whether it's good or bad at certain things, and whether it works as advertised.
@@HoldandModify Enjoyed the video, casual and showed a few things about it. Like hanging out with mates with that new toy back in the day. Keep up the good work. Would love to run a similar channel! :)
@@LurchNZ But it's like hanging out with a lazy mate who didn't bother reading the manual and didn't make the effort to try it out first before showing it to you. Rubbish!
Pimiga for the win
Its just another option for people to play with that will not break the bank. Always nice to see new Amiga related products being released.
Yeah that’s how I feel. I tried to relay that. As best I could.
Most enthusiasm was for the off button 😅
lol! awwwww
Because this A600GS is a crap product.
Thank you very much for testing this! Have a great day!
Man, Final Writer and Perfect Grammar were so ahead of their time.
They were. I used them a lot and was shocked by what people were using in the computer labs on the DOS/Windows machines.
I was a fan of Final Writer... That's why I bought it :)

I’m really interested where this goes for the OS and software support.
They promise over air updates so there’s potential.
Of course it will start up with Space Debris.
Yeah noticed that the second time I booted it.

I really hate those tiny HDMI ports. Pi400 even has one. Ruining an otherwise bear perfect computer for Amiga emulation.

Oh crud. Thank you for the heads up! Yeah I bring my 13” MBA with me. It has a full Amiga install via FSUAE.
Heh, it was sometime during my Amiga years when the idea of having to "shut down" a computer instead of just turning it off got started.
