A song from previous albums that was infused new life with this performance. One of my favorites since then. Both Floor and Marko's voices combined into pure intense heaven flying through the amazing composition and the musical athletes that the whole band is, just makes this song excel 🥰🥰🥰

Storytelling that could hardly be any better, which already starts with the idea in Tuomas' head and ends with the perfect execution of all these incredibly talented people on stage. 🖤

    lyrics
The wolves, my love, will come
Taking us home where dust once was a man
Is there life before a death?
    Do we long too much?
    (And never let in)
Howl, seven days to the wolves
Where will we be when they come?
    Seven days to the poison
    And a place in heaven
    Time drawing near as
    They come to take us
This is my church of choice
Love's strength stranded in love's sacrifice
For the rest, I have to say to you
I will dream like the god
(And suffer like all the dead children)
Howl, seven days to the wolves
Where will we be when they come?
    Seven days to the poison
    And a place in heaven
    Time drawing near as
    They come to take us
This is where heroes and cowards part ways
    Light the fire, feast
    Chase the ghost, give in
Take the road less traveled by
    Leave the city of fools
    Turn every poet loose
Howl, seven days to the wolves
Where will we be when they come?
    Seven days to the poison
    And a place in heaven
    Time drawing near as
    They come to take us
Howl, seven days to the wolves
Where will we be when they come?
    Seven days to the poison
    And a place in heaven
    Time drawing near as
    They come to take us
    Heroes
    Cowards
    No more
    Heroes
    Cowards
    No more
    Heroes
    Cowards
    No more

Horses galloping ...yes and the moment is perfect and belongs to story. Concept wise and musically again genius by Tuomas. And Marco and Floor do complement the vocals here so great....like specially the part after horses ...Marco can master bass at the same time.

I think this is the most intense powerful belting that Floor has ever done in Nightwish. Wow! "Is this were Heroes and Cowards part ways"? Great commentary and parallel with the Shubert Elf King piece. Loved it Charlie.

This song shows particularly well how works great position interchangeability between Marco and the Floor. In other songs it also happens sometimes, but here it can be heard very well in my opinion. I don't know if you would agree, but Floor is the lead vocal and still is in the first chorus and Marco joins her with his voice and they sound great together. But in the following choruses, Marco takes over as the leader and he sings the lead vocal and Floor joins him and they complement each other. It is especially audible in the last chorus, because Floor - knowing he has Marco next to him - can afford a lot more. In her performance it sounds almost like an improvisation, a variation on a given theme. He knows he can do it and the song won't lose, only gain, because it has a solid foundation in Marco's voice. The end result is perfect!

Charlie !! Excellent stuff yet again, thank you. Do we ever think that Tuomas doesn't have a very good working knowledge of "classical music" and those composers ?
Isn't a lot of the "classical" music just symphonic metal but without electricity ?

I don't completely agree with Floor in her interpretation of many NW songs written for Anette, but I can't even imagine of any better vocal rendering of this one. Apart from Floor's voice earthly/motherly inclusive quality itself, Floor's and Marko's voices are so 'similar' you can't distinguish where one ends and where another starts. And I like your complete speechlessness of "Floor Jansen is a singer...and she sings really well" lol. Der Erlkonig's intro as a parallel of 7 day to the wolves is interesting. Never thought of these two together this way. Very informative and educational about stage fright and in general. Thank you for the insights!

It's Nightwish, expect the unexpected! Love this song!
I think it's inspired by Stephen King's "The Wolves of Calia" but the message is to live life to the full because the "wolves" are always 7 days behind you.

Sweet, thank you for the insightful commentary! This has always been one of my favorites. And I'm glad you shared that Shubert piece - the horse beat always sounded familiar, but I never made that connection. I always figured it a was a reference to the Lone Ranger/William Tell Overture th-cam.com/video/TZqpRTsYjDs/w-d-xo.html lol Maybe both?

Note ( from left field): The young singer from Liliac is also a VERY good bass player. It would be interesting to replace Marko with her. Just a thought experiment. I think she now contains the spirit of Ronny James Dio...
