    Being an employee for quite a while now, I can definitely say the Amazon return gimmick works wonders, especially since we give everyone who has an amazon return an additional 25% off coupon. The rare instances I'm at a register and I see someone walk in with an amazon package, they always leave buying something. It was a great stroke of genius in a time of dire need for all retailers.

    • @rj9955hi
      @rj9955hi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      How do you advertise within your own store? 🧐
      They manipulate prices to make people, and women in particular, to feel like they are saving money. They manipulate the feeling of saving into profit

    • @cherryg2537
      @cherryg2537 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's cause the prices are always changing and sometimes it hard to keep up with changing signs. The people who do clearance mark downs sometimes miss a rack or a couple clothing items also. Trust me, when we check you out at the registers and the price is cheaper than what is said on signs or the clearance tag we are surprised too.

    • @sarah-uh6nn
      @sarah-uh6nn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rj9955hi Actually we have no control over pricing at the actual store. All those e-signs (the gray electronic signs sitting on top of racks) are all controlled by corporate. We cannot choose what those signs say nor can we "remotely control them", we can only update them and choose what items get displayed on the signs. Everything else is decided by the WAY higher ups. And its not just kohls, lots of retailers hike up their MSRPs and keep lots of items perpetually on sale. I worked at Kohl's for over 2 years, and if you know how to shop Kohl's is easily one of the most affordable department stores.

    • @altoidsours

      @@rj9955hi If it works, it works. There was a store (either jcpenney or sears) who tried to cut the BS and get rid of all the "inflate prices and then mark it down it down" style of sale. They just gave the items the lowest price to begin with. People didn't like that and they began to complain that they missed the sales and coupons. They didn't feel like they were getting a deal anymore, even if it was the exact same price they'd pay after the "sale."

    Well, I just want to say thank you for this analysis. I work at Kohl's, and not only do they have great deals, but you can do a poll, and I guarantee that in comparison, NO ONE WILL SAY, "WORKING AT AMAZON IS BETTER THAN WORKING AT KOHL'S." Kohl's offer great employee benefits, offer incentives and recognition, and are very fair (in my opinion,) in a competitive workforce. The only person that would tell you that from Amazon is Jeff Bezos. Plus, where I am, a lot of people leave Amazon and come right on over to Kohl's. I've only seen 1 person leave Kohl's and go to Amazon.

    The 'Amazon return' strategy is brilliant. One thing you didn't mention is the attractive and common sense layout of their stores. I've been to several Kohl's stores and they all look very much alike. It is easy to be there shipping something and think about something else you need or want. You know exactly where to go to find the merchandise quickly. And their fitting rooms are close by and typically not manned by people who want to count every item and unlock a stall. You just walk right into the rather spacious area with full length mirrors and decent lighting.

My location is also kinda understaffed, so sometimes it's one person handling all of customer service plus Amazon. It could also be the area I'm from, but Amazon attracts a ton of entitled and problem customers. I can see this collapsing real quick.

    • @open617
      @open617 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I work at customer service, and all of the problems (other than problem customers) are because of understaffing, bad UI in the app we use to sort things, and user error.
      When things are slow, it’s fine. But if it gets really busy and you’re the only one back there, it piles up really quickly and is hard to get under control.
      The sorting errors are usually because of people going too fast for the app to keep up. You have to scan the tracking number, then the box, then wait for the screen to clear otherwise it won’t sort properly.

      The Amazon drop off's attract people that don't wanna be there. It is like dragging vegetarian into a steak house. All they are doing is making Amazon stronger by giving them free shipping

    • @American-Motors-Corporation
      @American-Motors-Corporation 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobbluefield557 well you talk about Amazon getting stronger as if that's really hurt cold to begin with and I got news that's a false narrative......
      online retail only makes up 8 to 10% of all retail sales not to mention the majority of your retailers they started out the very same way the Amazon dead they only did it a hundred years ago so you didn't stare at a computer screen you instead looked at a catalog but it was still the same concept so I'm sorry they can't claim that that's hurt their business when the majority of these companies calls included they to have offered online sales for 20 some years pointing and clicking Is not A New concept and it's high time people stop acting like it is!!

      @@American-Motors-Corporation unless something drastically changes, all retail stores not named Walmart and Target are dead. Giving Amazon free shipping doesn't help anyone but Amazon. I would never hold a retail stock like Kohl's long term. Too risky

    Our nearby Kohl's stores can get pretty busy, so it's interesting to see all the comments about empty stores. But I mostly shop on their website, and I suspect many others do too.

      I'm surprised too. The Kohls that opened in my town in the late 2000s is still going strong. I expect the JCPenny's here to go before Kohls, if they ever do.

    The Kohl's near my house used to be a Caldor's where my aunt used to work back in the early 1980s. My lifetime best friend, a guy I've hung out with since the two of us were babies in diapers, his mom and my aunt used to be coworkers there. One day, when my mom had to work and saddled my aunt with me, his mom wanted to hang out with her and said "Bring the Weeaboo along, he can hang out with my son". Two of us have been damn near brothers ever since then.
    That said, my aunt and I love to shop at Kohl's. I mean it. The sales alone are worth going for when you need something.

    Im a poc cashier at Kohls part time and the managment team is very polite, stress free work environment, i only get anxiety when i have to push customers for a Kohl's charge but other than that it's a chill place and they work with your schedule if you have school or something come up.

    You talk about so many businesses that do amazingly well or horribly bad so it’s cool to talk about one that’s just kinda in middle.
    Personally I really like Kohl’s, they have a pretty great selection of clothes, shoes, and jewelry. I remember so many times growing up my mom saying ‘my kohl’s cash is about to expire, let’s go on Saturday’ 😆 lots of fun memories from that store.

    Actually them accepting Amazon returns is a strategic move. Because once they are in returning they might walk by something and want to buy it. It actually evens out believe it or not.

    Cool videos. I appreciate the Wisconsin focused content lately, I'm from Milwaukee and quite enjoy Culver's chicken tenders and Kohls cash. May I suggest Milwaukee Tool, Menards, Harley Davidson.

      Menards would be a good one. They are always busy. Privately held, always expanding, seem to be doing something right - even with really stiff competition from HD and Lowe's.

I was yelled and sworn at so many time while working the customer service desk, and once a customer told me that i ruined their Christmas because they didn't get a full refund on something that was over a year old with no tags or receipt...I have so much hatred for this store

    My favorite things to buy at Kohl’s, are there housewares, particularly, their kitchen appliances and, anything that can steam clean carpets, like deep clean your carpet and your hard kitchen floors, that were they be your hardwood floors, your linoleum floors, your tile floors and your linoleum. I think that the fact that malls are closing and that Amazon is expanding, Hass to do with obesity. I feel that the more people shop online, the more that obesity rates will skyrocket. People that live in the mountains, that’s one thing. But for everyone else, get out of your cars for chrissakes.!

    I think their toy/book sections also make them standout for parents. When it comes to buying clothes, trying on is so helpful. Plus our Khols is much closer than the busy mall and conviently located near Target for our supermarket needs.
