Turned out to be a good time thanks for watching, hope everyone has been safe/well, Much Love.
As a former Tomcat RIO, this is excellent! I can't imagine how much better we would have been if we had something like this back in the day. The sims could not really simulate BFM very well, and especially for the RIOs, all of our training/exposure was in actual flights. Both flight time and sim time were very limited compared to what we could have had with a desktop sim like this. It was not easy to understand what was going on while the pilot was fighting and not really talking much. Your explanations are very good and intuitive. Nicely done!
And this isn't a military funded game either. Imagine it was made specifically for military training. I can't believe how much more accurate it would be for pilots back in the day.
Also if the Tomcat would have had working engines. The Rest of the Aircraft was arguably more capable then even the Super Hornet, except for sensors and electronics of course.
I did a 4g negative dive once. I had one of those indoor trampolines and I jumped off my bed, bounced hard, and hit my head on the cupboard. It was a very negative experience and I'm sure my head did 4 g's. Still have the scar to prove it. Take that Maverick!

"Aircraft 1 performs a Split S? That's the last thing you should do, the mig is right on your tail, the mig has you in his gunsight, what were you thinking? "
Came across your channel recently while looking into DCS. Really great content! I would love to see a beginners guide on dogfighting tactics that includes info on what a one circle or two circle fight is, how to know which is better for what scenario, etc. (I know the scenario bit is hard to explain cause I imagine you have to know different aircraft’s capabilities and where they shine). I’ve watched many of your videos but still struggle to know what exactly one circle vs two circle means so something explaining that would be super helpful. Keep up the great work man!
Also in that video “fox 2” vs “fox 3” would be great. Just a bunch of terms that seasoned players/pilots use that beginners don’t really know or understand
Man, excellent instructor, speaks as he fights. That is quite the meta skill of this channel, I do not care whether you fly real jets or not, you have a real rare but fundamental skill in aviation there. I think simulators develop good instructors, and the emphasis should be more on that than flying itself. Flight qualities nowadays anyways are programmed in an aircraft.
That was some excellent surgical flying. You maneuvered in relation to all the bandits you could see, and you picked them off patiently, one at a time. Your energy management was pretty stellar, esp for a 1 v 5 engagement where the tendency is to panic and pull aggressive turns nonstop because you panicky brain says you better keep turning or else. This is why I love your videos; you display calm under the most tense circumstances, and what's more you calmly provide tactical analysis as the fight progresses. Good shit man🤟💥💯,/ 💯
At this point he needs to be aware he's on the defensive not on the offensive. That's probably why he didn't do that. However. I want to know how it would go against actual pilots. I doubt it would end like it did in this video.
The only thing not perfect here was missing the comment "too close for missiles, switching to guns" at 2:38! You just said it with other words. Awesome video and flying!
Thanks for doing my request GS! The fact that you did it by yourself is awesome. This means you are officially better than Tom Cruise AND Val Kilmer lmao
I just got here after watching Topgun and it feels good to watch something with some realism to what would actually happen and not so much character buildup.
Dude you make it look so easy! I feel more in line with Merlin...."where'd he go?" "Where'd who go?" Great video as always! These are my classroom lectures for Zone 5 😁
I love watching you handle the F-14! Reminds me of how much I loved playing Afterburner back in the day and its gyroscopic version, the R360, man those were fun, but DCS is on a new level! Thanks for keeping the Tomcat love alive!! 😎
The Heatblur team programmed the Turkey to identify a "Mig-28" when that skin is detected on an F-5, they may have some hidden "plot armor" cheat codes that activate at that point😆
Would be cool if you could do some close-up shots of your airplane after the fight when you took some hits, would be interesting how the F-14 looked like after this fight, even though it obviously wasn't badly damaged.
After watching this not just once or twice, I must say I popped in the Top Gun sound track the third time around, while you splashed those Migs to the ground. All I needed was to hear, "Great Balls of Fire!"😊 Loved it!✌
Fantastic! Would love to see you do a segment with you and Longshot teamed up against another pair of very worthy pair of human opponents. A real 2 V 2!
I'm a little curious about videos like these, because realistically wouldnt 1 mig 28 maintain the two circle/1 circle while the rest gained separation and made passes on your f14?
Since its a scenario of a merge, the situation is that the formation was surprised by the F-14, so no chance to plan an advantageous position. Extending away would be risky cause the Cat has missiles
It'd be pretty cool is you did the evolution of fighters from WW2 on, to see what made each one better than the last. And at what points did something get over engineered
Favorite part was the daring and harrowing low-altitude Split-S you did near the beginning of the fight. Funny thing, I watched your more recent F-5 vs 2xF-14 vid before this one. After seeing the clearly inferior turn-rate performance of the adversarial jet, I think it's pretty clear that any of those MiG-28s on your six would have went right into the ground if they tried to match that maneuver!
Random thought: Anyone ever see the old Clint Eastwood film, Fire Fox? Seems like the backwards firing missile would’ve been pretty handy in a lot of situations or not really? The Tomcat would’ve been a great platform to develop it for as the RIO could’ve had control of it like a modern tail gunner of sorts.
The Mig-28 can carry the Exocet anti-ship missile. They came very close to using it in 1986 when the USS Layton became disabled and wandered into enemy. Thanks to operation Bullseye they never got the chance.
