This was great to see! As a remote session guy myself, it’s really cool to see someone’s process and more importantly see you mess up over and over. It’s easy to forget when you watch these videos sometimes that it took 10,15 or 20 takes to get that perfect take. 🤘🏼
I loved the way you broke down your process. There are a lot of people out there that don't understand the time and effort that sometimes needs to be put into a project, or how to go about it. No disrespect to the other drummers that David asked to do this, but I think you did the best job in explaining your process.
i watched RdavidR's thing last night and loved it! the premiss was great and you did a killer job on that track.. you're a great drummer and a good sport as well
This was fantastic! I used to fall into the 'play-thru' trap too. You don't quite have the section mastered but it's too late to fix it ... looping is the answer! Cheers from Canada!
Great drumming there - glad I've found another great drum channel. I don't play drums, I play bass, but it's useful to have some extra understanding on how drummers think :-)
I accidentally hit send I wasn't done 🤣 but I like to do exactly what you're doing except for I didn't know I could loop the music so I downloaded the app and it's going to help me practice each section so much better. I tested the A to b and it worked and I can't wait to try it!
Hey Gabe - really nice insight and honest video of you workin´ it out. Liked it very much! All the best for you in 2021 and keep going all your good work! Big drummer hug from germany!
I always find watching these processes really helpfull! Gabe killed it with this track. I keep a guitar loop pedal handy for the practice loops - Fairly cheap and convinient way to make loops from any source!
I totally dig your method ! You are a really nice guy and your way to teach or just explain yourself is just GREAT. Your take and Stephen's one were the best to me! Also, may I ask you a gear question? What kind of lighting are you using behind the cymbal racks? That kind of blue/green. Thanks!
Great stuff bro. I find it easier to map the song out in logic (rather than on paper) using the arrangement markers and to use the click in logic so I can get it lined up in there, then it’s really easy to loop or revisit sections.
Dude, I love the sound of your kit. I currently have Roland E-Drums and they're driving me nuts. The sounds, layout (for a left hander) and mounts just can't compete with a regular kit. What would a setup like yours set me back?
Thanks for a view into the process. I've always thought your video production game is on point! Do you have an editor or any production staff at all?! Been wanting to do a drum cover channel myself but the amount of organization amongst all else is crazy daunting!
Love the video! Have you heard of "live bpm"? Beat detector app. Saves the guess-and-test work of tapping the metronome button. Pretty cool practice tool also 👌
My guess is he probably just counted them out. If you feel the pulse and then just count in your head until you feel count one coming up and the motif “repeats” you can figure out how many beats are in a measure.
Charting for drummers is like sheet music to lead guitarist, put the sheet music in front of them and they'll go crossed-eyed. I am new to playing drums, but never saw any of my drummer friends use your method. Is it new?
I've used this method and I've seen alot of more experienced drummers use this method or something g similar to this one to map out the song. For me it's helpful especially when I'm learning a new song. If you would like to try it, I recommend trying to make a chart to a song thats pretty simple like Billie jean bc the drum beat is pretty constant, that way you can hear when the versus change and the voicing of the instruments. This will allow you to listen better to what other musicians will play so you can ha e a better understanding when making your own drum part to best serve the song
Oddly enough, I just watched the other video of the other drummers playing the track.....kinda shady what he did. I dug your performance, and now a follower of your page!
This just goes to show you you can only get stuff like this out of these guys if your a big TH-camr. If they know they can get views out of it they will answer an email. SMH
David and Gabe together in a video? I'm here for it.
Heck yes!
Well you didnt miss out on much since I would have only paid you $5 anyways 🤷♂️ 😉
👍👍
Haha ok maybe I feel better now
Is that what you paid Stephen?...😅
@@DrumBeatsOnline Take it out in trade. Have @rdavidr make you some funky weird accessory from scraps he has laying around
Me wondering how everyone figured out everyone else's angle sooooooooo quickly...... Hmmmmmmmmmm

Awesome to get an insight of how a pro works. Also great advice! Thanks Gabe, I think I learned a lot from this
Glad it was helpful!
A track that was thoroughly dissected and then nicely played.
Thanks my friend!
Thank you for not only talking about mistakes but actively including footage of you making mistakes and slowly correcting!
its always a good day when Gabe posts
Your right, I have a cold, still have it but It's make me better a little

The sound quality tho
RUNKY TUNKLE!!!! Didn’t expect to see you here! Love your channel, keep going👍

Great drumming there - glad I've found another great drum channel. I don't play drums, I play bass, but it's useful to have some extra understanding on how drummers think :-)
I just wanted to say thank you so much. My drum teacher has an exercise where he provides a drumless track and we make up our own drums.

Great vid Gabe , great collaboration and of course great playing.
Loving it!
Please do a video describing how you get your tom sound?
Thank you being so informational! Im very new and this was awesome🥁🥁🤘🏼🤙🏼👍🏼

😂😂😂
ha!
the other five now are fake accounts that jon focus made too

Thanks Zax!
Very sick video. Thanks for sharing your process. It has inspired me to give this a try
Those glasses look awesome gabe🔥
Ha thank you! 🤓
Dam man- you absolutely killed it. I love how you create music + your sound
"Simpler are better a lot of a time"
That's the keyword of a great drummer like Gabe💪😍✌️. Thanks Gabe.

I have seen this video multiple times. Still loving it.

Hey Gabe! Loving DBO...best online lessons ever! I was wondering something... when you start going through a rut, how do you get out?
Talk with your drums than you gonna know it 👍👍👍
I did it, it work 🤣🤣🤣
Search for "To All Drummers Feeling Stuck...(An Open Letter)" on his channel and you'll find out. :)
That snare sound is perfect
Very informative vid. How long did it take you to master the song? (step 1 to step 4)
So glad I could help! The steps took me about an hour total I’d say, but it totally depends on the track!

Yay another upload 🥳😁🥁✨✨
Great Video And Thanks For Sharing Mate.
great dynamics, and the transitions were amazing. Another thing I felt is even I have to play to tracks....
Fantastic soulful groove. No way I could sit still with that music playing. Transcendent
🙏🏽🙏🏽
You look so damn good in glasses
Amazing lesson thanks bro💚🥁
Love you content !!
Thank you!
FWIW, while everyone involved in that project did a great take, I thought yours had the most natural groove and suited the track the best...

Always great insight into your drum life....Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!

So glad I could help!!
Drum beats online, when will you do the studio project?
Please reply
Big update on that coming on Tuesday...
loved it Gabe!
🙏🏽🙏🏽
You killed it bro
Please tell us the name of the track. Or the link to it.
I love how you include your mistakes. I think more TH-cam drummers should
What’s the name of the metronome app that you used
I think you had it right the first time - 7/8 and 6/8. At least that's what it sounded like to me. What made you say 7/4 and 6/4?
How I remember the parts of the songs:
I didn't know any section, it's all by feeling 🤣
😂😂
Do you have Die Cast hoops on your entire kit? Would you recommend those? Never tried them out, curious what difference they make.
They are Pearl Fat Tone hoops which are like a lighter die cast. I dig them!
I’m curious how you were able to tell the time signatures.
My guess is he probably just counted them out. If you feel the pulse and then just count in your head until you feel count one coming up and the motif “repeats” you can figure out how many beats are in a measure.
What camera are you using?
I love the looping step
It's a really important one!
Do you have a video on how to write a drum part? I need to create a drum part for my band and need some help
I have a full course on that called "the beat & fill creation lab" on DBO Academy! I think that would help big time!
@@DrumBeatsOnline thank you!
@@DrumBeatsOnline is that on the DBO website or your TH-cam channel?
Ummm.. hey Gabe I sometimes just hear your voice crack in every video i watch of you,I then burst out laughing 😂
great video you do great work
Thanks for shouting out my Channel! lol j/k you don't know me but this video is great.
Your drum set sounds so goddamn good...
Thank you!!
Amazing video...David and gabe together 💕💕💕
Love that guy!
where are the breakdowns????
I am 21 years old. Is it too late for me to start drumming?
No way!
Thanks you for your response. Mean a lot. Big fan of you
I started at 34. I play for my church now. Gabe's videos helped me so much.

Just one word... Perfect! Great play! I Love your drumming in this Song!
Thank you my friend!
Oddly enough, I just watched the other video of the other drummers playing the track.....kinda shady what he did. I dug your performance, and now a follower of your page!
I just want to know where you got that large blank notepad??? 😂😂
I have been playing guitar for 14 years and I have never heard of 7/4 timing...
@Liam LiddaneDillon My wife just explained it to me. She said she's never personally played a song in 7/4 timing aside from when she was in school.
TH-cam just recommended me the video by rDavidr and it was entitled, ‘I pranked these drummers to record a track for me.’ 😑
Great video, saw other last night, only critique is the click bait title
I'm just here to see I Prevail's drummer play beats other than post hardcore.
🤘🏽🤘🏽
Niceeee!
❤️
Can you do drums on my song Penny Dime? Time signature is 8/16 @ 297 bpm. 😂
Joking aside, great stuff!
Look I like without the beard but why don't you try to let it go? 🤔🤔✌✌
So porcupine tree. Very Steven Wilson.
Who's that fiverr idea originator ???
David 504??
W
Good strategy..... your mix is lacking brass..... needs some shimmer. The drums sound good.
Is there a drummer on TH-cam with a better sounding kit than yours? I think not.
voice crack be back tho
Always! Maybe I'll go through puberty in my 30's...
