Wild Camping Scotland | Coastal Camp | Vango Mirage Pro 200
During the week, I decided to meet up with ASD Mum and her partner and Ayrshire Camper for an easy wild camping trip down at Bracken Bay, Ayrshire, which is known for the Ayrshire Coastal Path. It's only an hour 15 minute drive from my flat and a 15 minute walk from the car. It's the first time in a year since I've done a coastal camp and someone had mentioned on the live chat would I ever do coastal camping again and the idea just grew in my head and decided to go for it! It was a casual and easy wild camp, the weather was fine, a bit breezy but thankfully warm and I had the therapeutic noises from the waves to put me at ease. I took my Vango Mirage Pro 200 with me as it's the easiest to pitch, my favourite tent, and I've not had it out in a while! Enjoy this therapeutic scottish camping trip :)
Look after yourselves x

'These caves are absolutely stinking' 🤣🤣 , like the editing on this , that sunset followed by the timelapse 👍🏻🏕
Shame you couldn't make it mate. It was a nice wee trip. Hope you're back out soon buddy.
Really liked the scene of swaying grass and seeing folks walking in the background .
Full value video again .
Thanks Scott! The swaying field somehow caught my attention as well. Glad you enjoyed it mate.
ASD Mum and Ayrshire Camper!👏👏👏 Have fun you lot, thank you Monty. I want a shot of that drone lol. Absolutely stunning views! We live in a beautiful place 😊
Come the group camp, Nicola, you'll get a shot. Promise 😆
Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. You have a wonderful week. Stay Safe.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you are staying safe and well too :)
Just upgraded my Mirage, by buying the gear store, makes a massive difference to the tent now, which is a big plus, as I use my tent for my motorcycling trips, allowing me to store my panniers etc.
Other tents I have are the Vango Odyssey air beam and Coleman tents Bedrock 2, Tasman 3, Cobra 3, Ridgeline 4. All the tents I have, have never let me down, money well spent, and all for different types of trips away on my own or with the family.
Nice spot Monty! That's where a free standing tent comes into its own 😁 Some great drone footage on this one too👍 All the best mate!👍
Cheers mate. Up Meall Nan Tarmachan tonight with Gaz. Hope you are well.
Always a good watch 😎👌🙏 what a beautiful view to wake up to keep up the good work stay safe keep the faith 😎👌⛺️🙏⛺️
Cheers mate! How have you and buddy been keeping? I've been generally doing a bit better!
Love the drone and time-lapse shots and there’s still some Terrence Malick style shots for the purists. Thanks for sharing-hope you are well. 🏕🔥
Wow! Compared to the Oscar nominee Terrence Malick is quite the compliment thanks haha.
Ach, doing alright mate. I was doing better but anxiety/anger crept back in so taking time off work to destress and micro manage my life. How are you getting on mate?
epic video i love your 80s retro outro 👍😅
My earlier ones had a retro intro too, but I've ditched that now. But glad you love it. I'm a big fan of synthwave/retrowave music too. What about yourself?0
fascinating content Monty Outdoors. I killed that thumbs up on your video. Always keep up the brilliant work.
Thank you very much mate, your kind words, view, and commenting are hugely appreciated :)
good spot and nature
Thank you 😊
The only Munro I ever fancied climbing was Marilyn.
😂😂😂😂
Another great video, nice balance of location and gear. As long as you make these videos I'll keep watching them. All the best big fella 👍
Aw thanks mate! I'm hoping my content gets better and better for you guys. How are you keeping anyway? All well I hope!
Good vid monty and nice little coastal pitch
Well done
Atb 👍🏽
Thanks Dave. Hope you are well mate!
Keep them coming love the reviews nice and objective.
Thanks Peter, hugely appreciated mate :)
Nice one mate, cracking drone footage
Glad you enjoyed sir! Did you get a good few subs from Friday? Remind me to promote your channel again mate on this weeks stream :)
@@MontyOutdoors cheers buddy, I gained 6 then lost 2 😂😂 that’s the way TH-cam works I guess
Outstanding place to camp right on the beach. What a view from the tent. I wish I could just camp on our beaches on the east coast of the US, but its not allowed. What a relaxing camp trip.
Oh that's a shame you guys can't camp on the beach... guess you'll need to come to Scotland! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for commenting pal 😄
drone footage looks great now, another great wee camp and video, i will be heading down that area mon/tue for a wee solo camp
Mate, I've no idea why this happens, but sometimes comments don't appear till like 2 months later. I just want to say that I appreciate the kinds words! How's your camping and that coming along?
Another nice video love the look of the mirage looks stable and plenty of pockets, wouldn't like to sleep in one of those caves can imagine what they smell like. Atb
Mate, the Mirage is a wonderful tent. I love it. Hope you are well!
Cheers monyy for a good camp my tent had two pockets
Enjoyed meeting you mate as usual and roll on the next trip. Cannae believe I couldn't see them sorry lol.
Yes it is a nice tent.I have the snugpak scorpion 3 .it`s a similar design but a bit bigger and i love it.Great wee video. ATB
Yip, I love that style of semi geodesic tent and it's great in the wind. I think yours is 200g lighter than my 2 man! Is it Nylon?
And thanks mate. Appreciated, Graeme.
@@MontyOutdoors Aye .It`s very strong and durable rip stop nylon with a hydro static head of 5000 .So it`s very waterproof indeed .It`s one of those tents that you feel really safe in.I also think the dark inner tent aids sleep.
@@MontyOutdoors Your very welcome .I like your content.Worth supporting.
Graeme I have the snugpak bunker, their superb bits of kit!
Looks a gd tent monty..n must be amazing camping on a beach
Camping on a beach is ok, Terry. Some people love it, not really for me though.
Why do it then m8 ...hope you av a fantastic weekend monty
Monty are you OK m8
Some great views, thanks for sharing. Love my mirage pro 200 too, it's my go to tent now, just wish I could find the matching footprint!
Another great vlog, the drone shots are absolutely stunning, many thanks. 😎💙🏴
You are welcome, sir! Thanks for watching and dropping a lovely comment!
Nice video Monty. A wild camp at the seaside 👍. Enjoyed watching. Atb Steve 👍
Have you ever done a seaside camp big man? And see you next Saturday as well. Remember and bring one of your Hillebergs you don't want to give to me for free!
Nice one cheers Monty.
Edit - you've not got the boots link in your description mate.
Thanks mate! Added.
Another one nicely done, Monty. Drones are game changers. I like your use of music here, and the little sped up section at the end is cool. I like how you balance and bounce from little info sections, to scenery, to gear, etc. Never too much but just enough. You have an innate sense of editing which you are honing. Very nice.
Thanks Bill. I do my best! If you have any advice, please let me know, because at the end of the day, it's people like yourself who are watching the videos.
Monty, my advice is just continue to be yourself. You are lucky living in a beautiful country, and you have a unique culture and geography that you can feature. The amazing technology of today sends you 3,500 miles to my house and much farther. Every little thing in your area can be interesting for an outsider to observe. Your beach is different, your gate/fencing/pathway style, accent/vocabulary, scenery, etc. You have a specialized niche to share worldwide.
Hats off to you monty mate. You stuck to your word and are integrating with your subscribers by way of camping,a hobby we all share a mutual love with. Maybe one day il bump into you bud out there on a camp. Im the sorta guy who grew up watching discovery and nat geo channel with my dad so i know a lot of facts about the world, universe ect ect. Im sure wed get along well as i suspect your are the same and seem a intellectual person. my next planned camp is sallochy with my 2 brothers. AtB 🏕️⛰️🏴
This channel started off as a means to share my experiences, aid my mental health, and meet like minded people... i wasn't expecting the live streams and free gear at all, well this quick! If you fancy a camp mate, just let me know and we can arrange something. I think I'm next free in September at some point! When are you off to Sallochy?
Great spot Monty and loving the drone footage, you should go back to that last cave in the winter (with loads of wood). I'll take a discount code for the boots mate if you can get one? Happy to buy on your recommendation and I need some new comfortable walking boots for winter. ✌
Yeah I am thinking about doing a cave camp for the 1st time! They gave me two boots, but I'd recommend these ones over the other ones: nortiv8shoes.com/collections/hiking-boots/products/160448_m
I genuinely found them to be comfortable.
They seem to be much cheaper on Amazon: tinyurl.com/yuns6fty
Still want me to drop them a message? I just did a Fakespot anaylzer on the Amazon reviews and they got an "A" so the reviews on Amazon are legit :)
Those andes sleeping bags are great for the money,4 season bag
What temperatures have you taken them down to Peter?
ive gone down to -4 outside temp, and they were nice and warm, they are big enough to cocoon yourself up like a caterpillar,i also took my summer bag, which only weighs 600 g with me just in case,so i could double up,but didnt need it,i know these are a budget bag, mine was £30,but i have to say,it knocks spots off of some of the high end bags, and when you put it in a 14 L stuff sack,it packs down really small and weighs 1600 g,id highly recommended it 👍
Wow, what a beautiful location. I do not camp but when I’m out and about I tend to head north and west so haven’t see much of the Ayrshire coast. It looks great. The boots looks great too. I am loving your drone footage. Take care xx
Laineyyyyyyyyyyy. Thanks again for being supportive and lovely and thanks for the super generous donation!!!!!!!! We have a group camp in a few weeks and I think you should tag along. We will look after you, we promise! Hope you and the family and the maw are fabulous x
What a gorgeous beach ! Hope you had a fab time 😊
It helped my anxiety Sarah! How are you?
Good thanks , lots of camping :) so happy it’s helping you, I absolutely get it x
@@sarahskeens3625 I'm off out on my first solo on Thursday too, so hopefully it will work wonders then! Glad to hear you are getting out, maybe a "Skeens Outdoors" channel coming up!?
Another great video Monty, keep them coming, your doing great!
Thank you Richard. I don't know how I feel about this video but these kind words help. Hope you are well mate!
Really enjoying the videos
Keep it up 👍
Thank you Martin. Hope you are well!
Haha you are really selling the video at the start “nothing spectacular in the videos, just some bog-standard camping footage”. Never sell yourself short mate I love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Mood was low so expectations were low. Actually happy with how it turned out and thanks for the lovely advice! x
We have a similar taste in ten the only thing I don't like is I hate camping on sand good video
John... I despise sand with the utmost passion lol. Gets everywhere and it nearly ruined my jetboil. You out this weekend mate?
@@MontyOutdoors no can only get out day camps due to the wife's health issues . Can't talk about it on social media. But I'll be back when things improve
@@canoecycle7005 Ah right, you can't do overighters are all at the moment. I hope things pick up soon mate.
@@MontyOutdoors one day at a time
Nice one Monty 👍
Glad you enjoyed mate!
I got the vango hydra from Amazon I think they’re virtually identical
Yeah, there isn't much difference other than the poles and additional guy out points on the Mirage I think. I like the Hydra and would do well in the wind too.
Great content as always Monty. Really want to scrub up on my knowledge of dron3s..think they will be well worth the cash to use on my walks
Thanks, Pauline :) What is it you do with your walks? Amateur photography? If you're going down that route, get a DJI drone. Go to CEX and get them second hand, that's what I did. Will save yourself a lot of money.
@@MontyOutdoors will definitely read up on the drones and the workings of them. Can never believe how steady the footage from them is. Yeah just amateur photography whilst on my wee jaunts nothing major.
How do you keep the outer door open? I’d there something there to tie it up with?
Christ, I can't remember... I'm sure there was a tie out point.
Nice review of the Vango Mirage pro 200 - having seen the latest vlog Monty I hope I'm lucky enough to win this because it looks easy to erect.
Terry this comment has just appeared. I hate it when TH-cam does this. Hope you are well, mate.
WOT... a tent with no pockets ???..
Do you use your pockets in a tent? I generally don't!
Your joke about cave demons! Spooky. I done a wild camp with my dog at dubaig cliffs on Isle of Skye. I've wild camped for 10 years and no incidents. Was scariest night of my life. I was later told by an old woman that I shouldn't have camped above the caves coz that's where the underworld live. I believe that. Spooky you mention it 😯
So further down from this spot is "Sawney Bean's Cave" which I've camped next to. The story was a cannibal used to live there and he still haunts it to this day. Maybe camp there one night? :)
Thanks for sharing your story!
