    "He's such a good actor"
    Anthony Hopkins once wrote a fan letter to Bryan Cranston with the following words:
    *"Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen - ever."*
    Yup, the great Sir Anthony Hopkins wrote this.
    Here's the full text: (no spoilers, dont worry)
    Dear Mister Cranston,
    I've just finished a marathon of watching 'BREAKING BAD' - from episode one of the First Season - to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season -[he probably thought there were 6 season, since season 5 was divided into two parts]-. A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing. I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant! Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen - ever.
    I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really. But this work of yours is spectacular - absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers... every department - casting etc... managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is awesome.
    From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.
    If you ever get a chance to - would you pass on my admiration to everyone - Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada - everyone - everyone gave master classes of performance... The list is endless.
    Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence. *You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen*. That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It's almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.
    Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.
    Best regards,
    Tony Hopkins

      +1 So glad you posted this fan letter from Sir Anthony Hopkins (a "grandmaster" in the art of acting) to Bryan Cranston. I have to agree with him at every department, every level. BB is a masterpiece of media art. All the actors really shine -- but Bryan Cranston's acting is so consistently powerful. He is definitively another acting "grandmaster" to me.

    Imagine this scenario for a minute. You need over half a million dollars to save the life of you and your entire family. Then, when you're about to retrieve the money, your wife tells you she gave all $600,000 to the guy she cheated on you with. I don't even know what I'd do. I think Walters reaction is pretty realistic, lol.

    • @azment8666
      @azment8666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not only that. Walter is an old man, and he began an insane double life right at the edge of his life. In the small span of time he started cookin meth, he has gone through an insane amount, and experienced so much. Now with that phone call at the end if the scene, everything he has gone through, while having to maintain his normal life around normal people, everything he went through, skyler and everyone are finally getting a taste of walters life. The absolute cherry on top, he gets to witness skyler's reaction to everything unfolding. It must've been a release for him

  • @astragalusson
    @astragalusson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    - Walt's hysterical laugh...
    - Phone ringing and Marie's frightened & crying voice coming...
    - Skylar's horror face & slow, anxious walking to the phone...
    - The creepy intense score at the background...
    All of them happening simultaneously is TV history. As people pointed out; it's a psychological horror/thriller classic within 2 minutes.

    i think his laughter turned into crying you know when you laugh so hard you start crying. Lol most likely not seeing them dead but i think it's because the irony of working hard for all that money for the family..... and skyler gives it to Ted her ex out of all people. 😭

    • @Kaldurahm1
      @Kaldurahm1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's worse! Ted was never her ex. He was the man she cheated on him with in order to hurt him.
      He was the boss that made drunken unwanted sexual advances at her that made her quit her job and lie about the reason to her husband.
      He was never her boyfriend. He was never long term. He was a means to an end for her.
      And the meaning behind "I gave it to Ted" encompasses all of that. She gave his life's work to the guy she cheated with to hurt him. She gave everything he stayed alive to try and leave the family to the guy she used to try to break up the family. And in the moment, it's ridiculous.
      The money he put aside to save their lives, and keep them safe when he was dead and gone went to That guy. And now they're going to die. His entire family. Everything this was supposed to be for.
      It was bad enough he was drinking from this guy's name branded cups!
      In the end, Skylar had been doing illegal stuff for the man she cheated on Walter with. That opened her and Walt to a new danger he never knew about. Her remedy was done without his knowledge and it has seemingly doomed their family.

    About all the sidestorys coming together....one can argue that there are no real sidestorys in BB. Or even sidecharacters. One of the greatest strenght of this show is the perfection in which every scene is just a building block for another scene and it keeps snowballing and snowballing. It takes a rewatch to fully get this but the amount of care that went into the plotting is just staggering. It really is just one long story with the single seasons working as mere chapters. When all is said and done one can go back all the way to the beginning, see how much the things have changed and that this change was always earned, set up long before payoff and how even the tiniest things matter in the long run. There may be shows I enjoyed more in the moment, even fascinated me longer (*cough* LOST *cough* TWIN PEAKS*) but never a show that was a perfectly written as this one.Maybe THE WIRE but that show is a different beast alltogether.

    Loved the reactions so far. Been wondering btw if you guys are fans of The Witcher? If so reactions for the upcoming Netflix series would be heaps of fun.
    But yeah, this is one of the most iconic episodes of the series. The next two episodes are some of the greatest episodes ever.

      Either way just watching the show is probably a good idea as the show is being based off the books.
      But no yeah. Love the reactions

    Salud ladies 🍹. That ending scene is the best I've seen in years. Sorry for Ted. Is on, neither can live while the other survives. Walt v Gus: the dawn of the blue staff.😉
