For anyone who hasn't seen it, the animation is a short anime called Cloud, released as part of the 1986 anthology film Robot Carnival. I just watched it and immediately recognized it from this video. Love this song so much!!!
Im watching robot carnival right now and just got super excited bc I recognized the animation immediately from this video. I never knew where the animation originally came from and just threw on robot carnival to fall asleep to. It's weird watching it without this amazing song playing in the background though
This and Orbital's 'Out There Somewhere (part two)' both contain musical sequences which are the closest approximation I can think of to experiencing heaven.
Best song of theirs by far even though it’s probably their most polarizing album for lack of a better word IMO. Personally I think this band’s complete discography is close to if not absolutely perfection.
'Garden of Light' is one of the greatest songs ever made. All of Isis' music is amazing, but they were operating on an even higher plane of songwriting here. The melodies are transcendent. The lyrics are direct and meaningful. Everything works. Its perfect.
Their track record was amazing. The only album I wasn't hot on was Celestial. Though I do like the first song on it. Deconstructing towers can fuck right off though, or whatever it's called.
Ive seen this video a thousand times over the years and just now realized this animation is actually called "Cloud" and is part of the film "Robot Carnival". I just threw it on to fall asleep to and got really excited when i immediately recognized the animation from this video. Had to come here and leave a comment to share my excitement since i had nobody to share this with. Highly recommend the film from what I've seen so far. And its crazy to me how well the song goes along with the animation given that its not the original soundtrack. I hope there are others out there that realized this and are excited about it as i am
Yes... I've been a fan for 20 years; this audible art has forever imprinted me with depthless joy, gratitude, and a connection to indescribable realms. Saying "I love it" is true, but an understatement. Words cannot express the deep 'love' I have for this music.
I fell asleep in a world dressed in grey Only to awake in a garden divine There was song and dance and untarnished flesh A feast for the body and the eyes It was you who brought me here Yours whose face greeted me in the garden of light You are the face of God You are my breath My life, my death
'Garden of Light' is one of the greatest songs ever made. All of Isis' music is amazing, but they were operating on an even higher plane of songwriting here. The melodies are transcendent. The lyrics are direct and meaningful. Everything works. Its perfect.
I remember when my friend forced me to listen to this. Never before I'd heard post-rock and it was like stepping out of your house for the first time. After so many years I still have goosebumps whenever I hear this song.
Simply divine. If you suss the story this song is relaying its unreal to think that a place like that existed. Story goes kinda like a guy creates garden in the middle east to replicate heaven after going through a process of enlightenment the person is laced with a substance that puts him into a trance like state, when he awakes he is the garden of light, he is given what he desires but if he sins he is lead out the front gate and into the desert....Heaven on earth is a state not a place. Love this clip too really simple and sits well with this epic song.
The song is pretty clearly about the Hashshahsin and its leader Hassan i-Sabbah, who is quoted in the CD liner notes. The previous track on the album is about the "garden divine", at Firdous e Bareen: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan-i_Sabbah
That might be the inspiration for the song, but it has much larger spiritual resonance than that. There's nothing fake about the emotion they're conveying, or the destination of our soul after death.
I have my own playlist where i get all the beautiful officials videos who are arround youtube, like videos from American Dollar, Massive Attack, Gojira, and what else. It's not often that i can watch a fan video, but this one, man, the best i ever seen. Amazing.
Wonderful piece of art. My preferred part is starting from 5:15 until end. Intro and outro are just fucking awesome... So much feelings getting out from these sounds. These guys are genius. And i think it comes principally from Arron Turner. The band 'Palm' (Isis band - A. Turner + Shino moreno) seems to be in the same waves but it's not the case. Palm has a lack of this kind of ambiance that comes (in my opinion) directly from Turner... I miss him !
Palms is good, but both ISIS and Deftones are themselves far better. I'm hoping for another Palms album soon, but I'd like to see more of this sort of ambiance.
Yes, that's what i meant when i've put the dash "-" , it means "minus" : Isis band - A. Turner + Shino moreno = Isis band "minus" A. Turner "plus" Shino moreno ... sorry I'm a bit geek.
i was into this isis (the band ,,, the fucking band ) from the day one..... years of handing cd,s to mates who thought they knew heavy , heard isis and said "not for me" .... this bands music was always heavy , brutal and beautiful to my ears and are more so "for me" now than ever. its sad to say a death in the band will bring their brand of heavy and majesty to a new era of fan for them .... i hope calebs legacy will reach a new spectrum of sound in the ears of the ones who truly hear them ,, and love them, and need them . peace.
This animation clearly shows someone actually thought about the music when making it. Both the video and song convey such strong emotions, and the author of the video interpreted it in a very unique and beautiful way. Music videos could learn a few things from this video, because the creativity is flowing throughout the entire thing. This is a rare case where I can say the video is as good as the song it represents. Bravo.
Good call on Robot Carnival, I love that movie, bought it on VHS way back in the day. I'm just playing the song as background right now so I will have to come back here later sometime.
You should check Rosetta, Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Year of No Light, Pelican, Huldra and some Jesu. If you mant some softer stuff (but awesome nonetheless!) try with If These Trees Could Talk, Gifts From Enola or Russian Circles.
@@jordanjackson7837 So true : Red Sparowes , it's ISIS band without Aron Turner (if I remember correctly). Same musicians, same ambiance, epic as Isis, but softer.
Actually, the video here is from the anime-short collection Robot Carnival. I dont think there is any substantial editing either, save to match the video with the song duration. Still, this is one of my favourites on youtube. Not only does the tempo and feel match up, but both pieces visit some of the same artistic themes.(my opinion) The lyrics are inspired by "Firdous e Bareen", but any ambigous piece of art could be said to have the meaning you prescribe to it.
Surprisingly nice! I generally avoid visual interpretation of my favorite music so as to retain my own vision of it (the exception being, of course, visuals by the band itself; especially, Aaron's visuals!), but this fits well. Although, as jmmoyar mentioned, beyond the 4:45 mark I generally stop seeing anything really, and just start thrashing my body in all directions. ISIS and conscious thought generally fail to cohabit in my mind at the same time.
I remember the original upload of this video, from sevral years ago. It didn't have half the quality of this one. Did you went and got Robot Carnival in its entirety? And then edit out the "Cloud" story and embedded it with a HD version of the song? Congrats for the effort. But since you did that, wish you had taken an actual effort in editing the video to fit the nuances and transitions of the song. Which was my only disapointment regarding the original upload at that time.
It's an episode of a cult Japanese anthology animated film Robot Carnival (1987.), called Cloud. The fact that Garden of Light follows it perfectly (and that someone recognized and edited it) is just one of those inexplicable moments when two unrelated peaces of art supplement each other perfectly and practically create a third one.
i fell... lost in hell... they were dress in gray ..... only to awaken in a garden divine there was something missing in the garden rage there was no love left in me there was rage breaking me in the garden of light felt all the rays of god filled all of my mind..........my light my end always sang it like that hahahahahaha
