This video is about Nicotiana Rustica, the ancient tobacco of the North American Indians. I go back in time, to the period where the English discovered the tobacco the Indians smoked in clay pipes. It is a story about the Rustica tobacco which has not been smoked in pipes for the last 400 years in the Western World. And yet Mac Baren brings a new flake tobacco to life, including the Rustica tobacco.
The video is about the history and also how we worked with Rustica and developed this new flake pipe tobacco.

I visited Jamestown years ago, wonderful historical site with lots to see. I just ordered some HH Rustica, looking forward to experience that leaf as well, thank you Per.
I spent 2 days in Jamestown, and left with the feeling that I was missing a lot of information. I can only recommend all, if they have the chance, to visit Jamestown. It is the birthplace of the tobacco as we know it today and at the same time it is the beginning of USA, 😊

In Vietnam we call this "thuoc lao", one of the most popular kind tobacco in north of Vietnam. If you came to Vn, you can find it in any street berverage vendor. But in Vn, we use a long pipe for smoking this, which have water inside as a filtration.

A 'bold rustica' mac baren blend using fire cured rustica leaves (or perhaps air cured rustica + dark fired kentucky for productions sake) would be my dream smoke.
Theres so much more that can be done with the wonderful nicotiana rustica plant!

I learnt of this new flake too late - just the other day when reviews started cropping up - so I've been unable to get ahold of it, it seems to be sold out everywhere. Hope you wonderful heros at Mac Baren will make more of it, I'd love to try it.

@@PerGeorgJensen Thank you so much for your helpful answer. I don't live in the US I'm afraid, I live in Europe - in Sweden, to be more precice, where new tobacco blends (and old classics too) are scarce so I usually order online from within the EU.

N.Rustica has the effective MAOIs harmine and harmaline in it. The natives were getting high.

Hello Mr. Jensen! I was very curious about the HH Rustica already and this has made me even more curious :) I hope that I will be able to buy it in Czech Republic, as I learned that pipe tobacco market is a little tricky at times.. At this moment the only HH available in CZ is Old Dark Fired, which is delicious. I was also wondering what the HH abbreviation means... Anyway thank You for your videos and I am looking forward to those to come.
The HH is short for our founder Harald Halberg and was first way back in our company history, and I decided when I created the HH line in 2006, that the right thing to do was to use the HH, out of respect and also for a more natural way of thinking tobacco. I don't believe that it will come to the Czech Republic right away, but I hope it will come in the future. 😊
@@PerGeorgJensen I finally got a hold of a tin of Rustica. It is very strong tobacco, definitely on par with english dark flakes and plugs. Hovewer, the taste is smooth and balanced. It's a great tobacco, best suited for evening relaxation, thank you for creating it!
I am thrilled for this. I smoke Rustica whole leaf from LeafOnly, mixed wit CBD Hemp flower from a clay. I cannot wait to get these tins in the post. The nicotine content can be very, very high with Rustica, eat a solid meal prior. Please do not stop making this, and Perique would be a good 2nd flavor addition for a new Rustica Line.

Do you think this tobacco matches better with briar, meerschaum, morta, clay?

It depends what you like. In the clay and meerschaum pipes you get a more clean taste because nothing of the pipe gives taste to the tobacco. If you smoke it in a briar you will have a little taste of the briar mixing in with the taste. My favorite is the briar.

Hello Per Jorge, I have recently acquired a Georg Jensen Intarsia pipe and cleaned it up. Such a beauty. But it has a defining feature. It has, what appears to be a briar or some material stripe in the stem? I have never seen this before. It is hard to say. It is a new tobacco and a new style, so if the acceptance by the pipe smokers are there, we might make a new run in the future. But nothing is sure for now. 😊

Yes, the nicotine is higher than in Scaferlati tobaccos, however the tobaccos are different. It depends how you obtain the nicotine in the different blends.

Does it have more strength than old dark fired (I mean very more?
It has more strength than Old Dark Fired. It is a different tobacco, with its own taste, and is perhaps better in small pipes when you not used to the strength.
Will this be regular production?
Right now it is a limited edition as we are moving into unknow territory. In time I am sure we will make it again. 😊
I hope this tobacco can be buy in here Indonesia.
I fear the best possibility to get it is to buy from an internet shop in Europe or USA.
