Thanks 🙏 Im learning new things practically every time I’m on the water as there are so many variables to consider. The main thing I always tell myself when im struggling is don’t overthink it. Usually when I know there are fish in the area and I can’t get them to bite, its almost always something simple that im doing wrong. Sometimes its as simple as leaving those fish and finding some that are willing to bite at another spot haha
Good job. I had to look at the title again to make sure it was the Nevada Pyramid Lake cause I definitely never been to this part of the lake. Pretty shallow. Hope to get there soon. I love catching fish plugging but it’s pretty enjoyable also to hook em trolling.
Excellent new take on the jig game! Gonna have to write this one down, planning a trip soon to do battle with one of these majestic Lahontan cutthroats! Thanks always for some great insight on how to catch more quality trout. Congratulations on another successful fishing trip. 🤙🏽
Another awesome video on Pyramid. I look forward to your instructional video on Pyramid. When they start spawning i can't wait to see how the fishing goes.
It's been tough finding fish that want to bite at the Salty Pond the last month or so. Glad you guys were able to trick a few into doing the deed. Those 4" tub jigs work great!
Yeah its been rough for sure. Im hoping the warmer weather coming gets them biting. I use several techniques to get on the fish but nothing comes close to those tubes
Great video once again! I’m headed there in the morning! Got some tubes, spoons, jerkbaits, and some girofish. South end of the lake is where I’ll be starting.
The only time I got to fish Pyramid Lake it was on my honeymoon, eloped to Reno and got hitched on the condition I got to fish Pyramid Lake on the honeymoon, LOL! I caught 25-30 fish that day, nothing over 25” but the #5 black and gold Rooster Tail I picked up at the Tribal store on my way in did the job! I had a couple of different people say they had never seen anyone catch fish like that before. I am Native but not Paiute, a couple guys were cussing at me because they thought I was using shiners, LOL! They were ladder guys who had each caught 1-2 fish in about an hour and a half. I tried the fly rod thing with no luck then switched to the spinning rod and it was on!
Thank you for the killer video. How far out are you able to cast with the smaller jig heads? And how long are you letting it sink before you start your retreive?
With the 1/8oz heads id say 60-70’ using a 9’ rod but 90% of the time your getting the fish 5-15’ in front of where your standing due to the dropoff. Sink time really depends on where your fishing as the terrain varies. In the sandy areas i let it go to the bottom, rocky areas i let it sink as close to the bottom as I can without getting it snagged
The discount code only applies to the GSF baits and tackle. The Katana rods, Sinister Strand, and apparel are not covered under my discount code. Sorry if there was a miscommunication 😬
Yes, there are some calm days but the nastier the weather the more excited the fish get. Its one of the best places ive ever fished but it has some of the worst conditions ive ever fished. Even when the weather is brutal and the fish aren’t biting you keep casting. The next cast could be the fish of a lifetime
I see a lot of you guys use the braid x fluoro line setup. For what reason exactly is that done rather than, say, only fluoro? Thanks for the link for the Runcl line, Rob. Got some on the way.
For the same pound test braid has a thinner diameter than flouro which allows for further casting of light jigs. Also high visibility braid allows the angler to better see where their line is. Lastly although flouro has low stretch braid has virtually zero stretch and slightly higher sensitivity.
Definitely depends on how shallow were talking as to wether using a lure as opposed to bait would be effective. I typically fish water thats 3-6’ deep and I consider that shallow. In those cases lure selection remains the same as sponns/spinners, mini jig, minnow, or dropshot will all work in those conditions if thats what the fish want on that particular day. In shallow water ill typically start with a light weight mini jig (1/32 or 1/64) so I can fish it as slow as possible without contacting the bottom if all that makes sense
Would love to see you actual put the jig into the tube….I fish Cutt’s from shore and it has a drop like this and have a few lakes in Eastern Wa that holds Lahontan cutthroat to try this. What time frame do they spawn?
Right when I read your comment I realized I forgot to show that. Its actually really simple, you just slide the jig in so the hook sticks out through the split in the tail. The cuttys spawn time has been changing the last couple years at the lake. It was traditionally mid march but sometimes they will start now in mid April. The weather up there hasn’t been very stable so the fish behavior is off a bit
SeaSpanker......I really enjoy your videos. When you going up the eastern sierras this year 2024? My son and I will be going 7/10 -7/14/2024. we are stocked up with GSF jigs.......
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors Darn, I thought we might shake a hand one day. Maybe at SARL this fall/winter. Anyway we will WARM up Silver Lake for you at the stream intake.........TIGHT LINES
Fire 1/4zigjig straight off that peninsula at P.C. 1' to 3' slow hard pops off the bottom. Same w spoons. 6" to 8" kaitec Bio minnow sharpied all black at odark30 then blk slvr or tan blue stripe slow rolled on 50lbs braid 18" to 30"25 mono top shot rigged with long shanked j hook. No weedless no trap no weighted hook. insert 3/8 egg or bullet so sinks flat last hour. Fish the kiddy pool soon as everyone splits.
Thanks again for making a video on pyramid that isn't' just fly fishing. Love your videos.
Lol no worries. The lake is definitely dominated by fly fishermen
Appreciate this video man. I grew up out here but never learned how to ‘properly’ fish with techniques so learning techniques now has been eye opening

Spanker love that morning pic at the beginning. Also can I get the link for the quick fly clips for the mini jigs.
Thats what is called “magic hour”. The fish usually bite the best before the sun comes over the mountains. Here is the link a.co/d/ghUYoNY
Spanker what size would you suggest?
@@michaelharnack9312 definitely “L” large
That's a nice spot with a good drop off. Where is it?
Most of the video was filmed at Popcorn beach. I think the first fish was at Spider Point
@SeaSpankerOutdoors thanks for the info. Most people don't want to tell you much about Pyramid. I appreciate it
Is pyramid lake barbless only now? Haven't fished it since the late 80s when ya had to use a step ladder with waders.
Yup all barbless artificial lures only and no scent. The ladders are still a thing though but you don’t absolutely need one
I love to fish
Me too 🤘
