I really appreciate hearing that. Since I am the new guy. First time ripping laps was last season after just nitro monster truck bashing. I bought a used MP9 TKI4 that started life as a ready set(RTR) but was upgraded with every kit part available eventually. The car was very very beat up. It was hard to really drive and keep up on the track. Even after the 110% clinic with ty tessmann having them help me. The car I had was just too far gone to really be able to make it was I wanted to be. So last week I got a mugen mbx8 and fitted it with most the worlds edition upgrades. Gearing and towers. Basically all the big stuff. I’m also getting a flashpoint FP02 engine pipe combo tomorrow. And if it was for people Like yourself I would have just quit after mot having a buggy that would respond to setup changes that way it should have. So now going from an old beat up kyosho to a brand new mugen with a brand new engine. And having good gear to work with I’m hoping I’ll be able to progress and accel much better now.
I could not agree with Rhonda more,,, spot on. This is exactly why we started up Popalong RC... we will be running entry level race meets to encourage new blood into the hobby... we watch to act as a starting point and then hopefully that will lead to more people taking up the hobby .. great video

Totally agree on making it more affordable. Honestly tires and fuel are the biggest cost, tires being the biggest in 1/8 off road. I wish JConecpts and some of the other tire manufactures would make a set of tires with out rims to be about $30. Tires don't seem to last long, and if they dont work and are worn out, new comers and or kids lose interest if they dont feel like it works. Also, I'm not sure this is something that can be controlled by $45 for a gallon of nitro fuel is a lot of money to some. Need to find a way to make it less.
Fuel is the number one thing new guys and even middle aged working stiffs state at my track why they went from nitro to electric. Tires with newbies on very tight budgets are second so I actually recommend new guys to run harder compounds because they obviously last longer but they are more forgiving(more slide turn traction rolling).
Find and support your local club, get the whole family involved. Get kids outside again and work buddies into it. When I was a young teen I saved up and bought a RC10 and started racing at the local track/hobby store. It kept me out if trouble and I ended up in engineering and machinist work. I run 8th scale nitro now and it's amazing. Sadly the local tracks owner is struggling with his health and I'll need to drive really far to the next track but it's worth it.

One more thing, I think a lot of tracks should take the PHDR racing guide book and adopt it for their tracks. Its loaded with great info.

The RC bug is deadly. Once you have it changes you forever. The smell of nitro, the sound of the engines burns into your mind.
