This was the very first record album I ever bought. I didn't know you could play an album on 45 rpm so the first few times I played it I played it on an excruciating 33 rpm. I was like wtf this sucks! Then I figured it out. I was 11 yrs old 1980. After that album I couldn't get enough.
Had the opportunity to see these in March 1980 while on a rugby tour to Vancouver but it was the night before our departure flight and had to decline. Got the 12 inch vinyl of this though upstairs somewhere!
This record was produced by Bob Rock, I think his first, who went on to produce Metallica, Mötley Crüe, The Cult, and many others. He was probably just the kid at the local studio back then. I don't know the details but this was long before his big music career.
@@benadams9732 very interesting! I always wondered why this EP was so clear. I guess they actually had someone in the booth that knew, or had an idea, of how professional recordings should sound lol
Actually the Subhumans version was a cover as well. The original was done by Gerry's band The Stiffs in '77. It's on TH-cam. Super snotty but lacking the punch of later versions. DOA's version in '83 is the definitive and best version if you ask me. It is absolutely PERFECT. If I met a Martian and it asked what punk rock sounds like I would play him FU by DOA.
@@Anarchidi yup. Gary useless left in 1981 to join a group called direct action in the underground. They bombed hydro plants damaging the environment, burned out a porn movie chain against which accusations of bad business practices were made, and bombed a plant where cpus for ballistic missiles were made. The got caught in '85 when they were preparing to rob an armored car. (squamish 5) gary got 10 and out in 5 and the other are all out today, even though one or two even got life.
saw this in a berlins secind hand shop for 12 euro. if i will find it again net weel will get it to put alongside with my other Subhumans (UK) super anarcho punk
One of Vancouver BC's all time GREATEST bands❗️Brian's AKA: Wimpy Roy's death still doesn't seem real. In his memory we'll be playing Ingisition Day at our benefit show for MS, Saturday March 28th, 2015 @ Darrels Tavern along with some great bands and friends. So come out 100% of door goes to “Walk for a Cure" an yearly fund raiser our vocalist has been involved in the past 3 years. He's had it for 13 and is still able to function fine and still sing old punk songs! The band was called Solger /// back around the same time the Subhumans were playing. They were a much better band IMO but were a huge influence! Your ticket also gives you a chance to win an autographed Hagstrum 12 string electric signed by Pat Smear and the rest of the Foo Fighters {Thank You Pat} Another huge influence The GERMS. If your in town and want to have a fun night with some great bands stop in and support a worthwhile cause!
+Paul Solger thanks for this Paul. I know you played some great shows with the Subs. Don't sell yourself short though - SOLGER were no joke...the real deal!!!!
Thank you Doug! Got a new band forming "Lamas with Hats" long story. But there will be Subhumans covers as staples in our live shows. I'll keep you posted and any video or audio rec. I'll be sure to send your way. Would love to play up there if theres ant good clubs... Seattle & Vancouver BC have turned into almost foreign places to me. Take care Sir. And thanks again...
I heard of this band in the nineties but i doubted hard-core punk tastes at that time. I was into the lighter side of punk, like The Cure and The Jam. I wish that i had gotten into them back then. I turn 47 in 2 weeks, but i am going to delve into the Canadian Subhumans' treasury and i already know i'll really like their stuff. I'm even thinking of starting college... I'm interested to know what the hierarchy of punk thinks about that?? Give me your thoughts?
I think you've missed out on a lot of great music. This isn't really hardcore imo , much more in tune with the 77 punk. I guess the lines are blurred often. At any rate , life's too short to limit yourself. Get busy listening!
The greatest punk rock record. Better than Never Mind The Bollocks. Better than Nevermind. Better than Machine Gun Etiquette. Better than London Calling. Better than LAMF. Better than Hardcore 81. Better than War On 45. Better than And No One Else Wanted To Play. Better than Minor Threat S/T. Better than Bad Brains S/T. Better than I Don't Want To Grow Up. Better than Damned Damned Damned. Change my mind.
these are actually more "rock" while Subhumans UK are more typical anarcho english punk........which i love more cause faster and more furious and also the longer songs are great. still i will get this vynil if i find it still 2nd hand
I'd have to say that I disagree of calling this more of a rock band than punk. This is punk but just a different type of punk to Subhumans UK, which I also like.
+futureman1400 This is the Canuck Subhumans with Brian AKA Whimpy from DOA before he started playing bass for DOA and gave up vocals & this amazing band!!!
I’ve always been amazed with how good the production is on this EP. It’s incredibly clear
Incredible

@@xnicolasx66oh wow I mean this was 1979 it's really awesome 👍
A young Bob Rock

"Do you like the Subhumans or the Subhumans?"
"Yes."
Icon level punk rock 💪

I just found this album! what a great find!
Let's get this out of the way...this is the original version of FU. DOA COVERS IT.

Controversial opinion: BOTH Subhumans are great bands. You mouth breathers in the comments are ridiculous.
Yes,they are both good, just different bands with same name LoL
They are both great anarchist bands. (I think one of the members of the Canadian band served 5 years for partaking in direct action)

Correct, both great bands.. check out culture shock and citizen fish. Both, offshoot bands from the English subhumans..
Love both but I relate more to the Canadian band. Still love UK band just personal opinion
Have this record, love it. thanks for posting this
God this production is great for punk, total earphone candy
Very similar to Sex Pistols on "I wanna be me"
This was Bob Rock's job actually.
