Beautiful penetrating and pleasantly haunting voice. This past September I visited that “little church down there” while listening to this, one could visualize “the boys and girls gathered there…. and watch the cailins passing down.”
Hi All, Thank you very much for the lovely comments. This song was taken from my second album "Melody in Harmony" which was released in 2005. Just released my third album "Ireland-Love of my Heart" which is available in all good record stores and being distributed by RMG Chart! I hope you all enjoy it and I'm awaiting your comments!!! Le gach dea ghui, Annmarie. xXx
Hi Annmarie, your singing of the song brings tears to my eyes every time, I think of the man that wrote the song he must have been crying while he was writing it, so sad he never got chance to stand outside the chapel gates of Cooraclare again.
+sean brennan I totally agree - Cooraclare as sung by Ann Marie O Riordan would touch your very soul.Sad soulful & truly magic - that young lady truly has the voice of an Angel ! The Coleen Bawn is another song that brings out the true quality of her beautiful voice.!
+Donie Horan It can only be from the auld country, this style of singing is a part of our heritage that should never be forgotten and i am shocked that one so young is flying the flag for those of us who are truly touched by her interpretation of this song,i wish her all the very best for the future.I am grateful to facebook who put the video of the coleen bawn onto my page this morning which has led me here, all the best to you Donie Horan.
I visited my home village of Cooraclare last week for a funeral "inside the chapel gates of Cooraclare." & we then resorted to Tubridy's for a few drinks.
such a brilliant song, frank o brien wrote it years ago , he was from cooraclare and emigrated to chicago and never returned. my father was so well known for singing this all over the country and beyond. he kept this song alive for years and years, sadly dad passed away last march
Most beautiful voice. Such an Irish talent we have in Annmarie. Music in the background is just right and its Annmaries voice that carries the rich melody. I am Irish and maybe I am biased. But this is still beautiful to me. Go raibh maith agat
I was in USA for 20 yes thank god I found my way home in 1999 this kinda song and the way you sing it understanding the sentiment was just great again pace your wonderful cork accent give this song new life...
Just discovered this wonderful voice and melody. Thank you for sharing your talents Annmarie, and thanks to TH-cam for making so much rare, wonderful music available! From Cherry Valley, California.
I’ve been away from Ireland now for nearly 50 years And thoughts of home are still dear to me Often I gaze across the ocean and my eyes grow dim with tears Let me tell you of the vision that I’ve seen As a babe, a child, I stood there when the summer sun did shine Across the steep lough, that little church down there As we gathered every evening while the weather would be fine Around the chapel gates in Cooraclare So in dreams I love to ramble down the village street And meet the boys and girls gathered there For to sing the good old songs, telling of old Ireland’s wrong Around the chapel gates in Cooraclare There were weddings planned and matches made and stories old and new Around amoung the boys that gathered And we played the football matches ’till the final whistle blew Around the chapel gates in Cooraclare We would talk about the neighbours, the weather and the times And who the boys were courting on the sly We would watch colleen’s passing down, and bid them the time of day And perhaps we’d catch a twinkle in their eye So in dreams I loved to ramble down the village street And meet the boys and girls gathered there For to sing the good old songs telling of old Ireland’s wrong Around the chapel gates at Cooraclare Now I’m growing old and weary in this land so far away But I’ll return to Ireland yet, if God will spare. And when all is done, they’ll lay me at the closing of my day. Inside the chapel gates in Cooraclare
God Bless your father's soul, his chest is swelling with pride in heaven! My Dad & Mom were born in Kerry around 1908 & immigrated to NYC in the 30's, never to return to Ireland. A common immigrant's story!
This is an incredibly beautiful song performed perfectly by Ann Marie. After listening to the song, I’d love to visit Cooraclare, maybe after the Covid-19 is sorted out....
@@seankelleher7809 Hopefully, I'll be able to visit there next April or May, and I will certainly look up that place and see if it's still available...
Fantastic song - beautiful voice. The song reminds me of some of the older immigrants I met on my travels - that longing for 'home' though settled in their new country. The backpacker generation was a different breed - educated, travelled and confident. Each one unique and each story different. Both Irish but coming from different worlds.
Hi annmarie I originally came from west cork I now live in London . I LOVE Ireland so much and miss home a lot but when I hear your beautiful voice it makes me more homesick keep up the good work best wishes caithlin
Ann Marie - phenomenal. I came across your song yesterday and havent stopped talking to people about it. Very moving and sung so beautifully. I love these songs which are so much a part of our oral history which needs artists like yourself to keep them alive. Go raibh mile maith agat
Wow your voice and this beautiful song brought tears of joy and a long for wishing to be back within the Highlands of Scotland where I have left half of my heart 2 months ago. Also for Ireland where ma dad is from:).Your voice is that of an angel sent to comfort us wrapping its self around us with each beautiful word:).Thank you kate285 for sharing with me and also AnnmarieOR. You are a blessing.Love,Peace and hugs from Canada and best wishes Claire:)
What I love is the way you perfectly capture the ache of missing home, be it Ireland (which I ponder how some of my progenitors must have longed for) or the Adirondacks. The emotion in your voice immediately took me to that place in my heart that longs to go back to that 6 acre spread outside of Paul Smith's. Well done indeed.
Annmarie this is your zone. You are so good with such a beautiful sweet Irish voice I would love to hear more songs like this. I just hope you stick to tradition that is what (in my opinion) you do best. I love this song and many more that you sing. Bring it on because we are waiting. Beautiful is not a good enough word to describe your voice. Go raibh maith agat ,,Tom..
Dear Dave Gallagher, all the best to you wherever in the world you are today. (I used to live in the USA. I felt deep longing to be back in Ireland. Now I am back in Ireland, well, in the northeastern statelet. Often I wish I were back in the USA feeling pangs of homesickness and nostalgia for my dear wee native land.)
Ann Marie! was told just lately about you and your wonderful voice! "wonderful" does not do you justice! I'm in the states and just heard this song! absolutely sub-line! all I want to do is go home! thank you so much!!!
Is You tube not the best of silicon valley. Without it, all us displaced Paddies would not be able to enjoy all these brilliant singers that came along after we left. I know you are making tons of money, but thank you.
All my relations are from Cooraclare..My late Father was a good friend of the writer of this song Frank O'Brien. Frank was the local postman who emigrated to Chicago never to return home. The song itself was kept alive for years and always sung by another great Cooraclare man the late Séamus Mac Mathúna R.I.P.
Our mother is blind she always loved to hear Ann-Marie singing hope some day we get to meet you and you sing for her god bless you always 🎉🎉❤❤
One of the most beautiful songs/voices , period ❤️🇮🇪

You can't always hear an accent when someone's singing but her Irish comes out clear as a bell. It's a beautiful, metallic voice she has.
what a great way to put it. "Metallic" \,,/
