    Old man moment:
I went to check out the prices on the cheap ramen recently so I could try out some of the recipes here on TH-cam, and I couldn't believe my eyes.
Now here's the old man moment...
Staring dumbfounded at the price, I said aloud, "I can remember when these things were only eleven cents!"
(Does anyone remember hearing their grandfather saying something like that about candy or soda or whatever? Old man moment.)

The cheapest I remember candy bars like Snickers (I preferred Nestlé's Crunch) being is ten cents. But your dad is right - they were HUGE compared to today's candy bars (larger than today's so-called "giant size" candy bars).

      < Bwaaaah! >
I remember finding a quarter when I was in 6th grade and trying to decide between buying a McDonald's hamburger or getting a DC giant size comic book.
This was back when McDonald's used to run a commercial about buying a meal deal of a hamburger, fries, and a soda for a dollar and getting change back.
Ask your dad if he remembers that.
(BTW I chose the comic book because I could keep it to enjoy for years, reading it again and again, but the hamburger would only last for a couple of minutes. I was a nerd and comic book geek even way back then. Lol!)

Really like all of your recipes. I make my own recipe by using the ramen noodles and the seasoning packet plus I'll add either a chicken bouillon Cube or a beef bouillon Cube depending on if I'm using chicken packets or beef packets. Then when it's about ready I will add frozen shrimp and frozen veggies like carrots broccoli or any other veggies I have on hand. But I love it it's very filling and very fast and something hot that tastes so good it's like eating soup. You also have a new subscriber.

I like ramen so I eat it on the regular. My favorite is what I call fake pho that sounds a lot like your stir fry beef. I use minced onion and 1/3 the flavor packet (I started doing this for less salt 40 years ago, now it's just a habit!) and enough water to almost the top of the noodles. I cover and microwave for 90 seconds. While that is going, I slice up a couple of regular lunch meat roast beef pieces. At the ding, I turn over the ramen with a fork, put the beef on and I add cashews. They're not in pho, I just like the hit of flavor. I then cover again and do another 90 seconds. I do this with ham lunch meat too. One can add veggies too. Anything that will steam in 3 minutes will be done by the end. Broccoli, edamame or asparagus would be my choices.

We have ramen noodles - you can get them for about £1 for 4 packets in the likes of Aldi (Maggi brand), or around 29p a packet at present in Home Bargains and such. SuperNoodles are just the more expensive, branded version (made by Batchelors, maybe?) I never use those “flavour” packets you get with them (should be prosecuted under the Trades Descriptions Act…) but make my own broth - tons of recipes on the web - then add veg, shredded meat, egg, maybe a few sesame seeds on top to look nice. Makes a lovely Saturday night supper while watching Ant & Dec!

This kind of cheap ramen needs a health warning on the packet. Aside from the huge salt content (in both the seasoning packet and the Raman itself), there is the worst kind of cheap oil, the lack of any useful nutritional value and last but not least the TBHQ. Ramen noodles are particularly unhealthy because they contain a food additive called Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ), a preservative that is a petroleum industry byproduct. Use pasta or fresh noodles instead. It may be a little bit more expensive and take a little longer to prepare, but you are doing your health a favour.

lol I've been using this style of recipe for decades. So versatile and adaptable to what you have in your cupboard. Glad to see I'm not alone. great ideas Maria. I really like the fact that you explained the egg thickening the broth and adding to the overall flavour (brit) Nice work :-)

You can definitely make ramen all different ways. Chicken, beef, veggies, etc The one day we even use spaghetti sauce it's tasted so good.

Just told my sister about you!! I’m 76 and she is 71. She had six kids and I only had one but we made similar recipes to feed our families…I don’t want you feel bad for me but I WISH I could give you so many kitchen things…I’d drive them over to you but California is a little far away!! I have 7 Le Creuset and I gave her two of my bigger ones yesterday…don’t ask me how many dishes etc. I have! Not bragging it’s just appalling how many things one accumulates and then no longer use!!

I misuse ramen all the time, I dont use the sodium heavy flavor packets, I use herbox bullions and dash seasonings among others, I will occasionally cheat and use packaged taco seasoning, taco ramen is an easy one, another is a philly ramen using shaved steak or steakums, peppers, onions and cheese, cheesy ramen with tuna or browned ground beef, take it BBQ with pulled pork and your fav bbq sauce or dice up left over pork chops etc.. ramen carbonara with bacon or just a butter and garlic with parmesan maybe some shredded chicken

Hi. I am watching your video. If I can add to a recipe (one we eat at home): boil your water. Add your flavorings (here we keep it simple & use maggi chicken powder). After the water is in a rolling boil (you can add frozen veggies, onions etc @ this point) you drop in your noodles. Move them around so they are somewhat separated. Then crack how many eggs you want into the pot. Don't mix the egg up. When the yoke looks about done, take it off the heat and let sit for a few mins to settle. Garnish as desired. This is a soup. It's pretty filling. We have also used other types of pasta, too.
I have to try the first recipe you presented. It looks really good.

You chop fresh garlic because there's a thing in it that disappears, is destroyed when you chop it and put it in a jar. Sorry I'm 80 and I just don't remember the name of it. It makes a huge difference in the taste of the garlic. Only way you can get it is if you chop your garlic fresh.

Fantastic recipe! I love your style of presentation. Informative and interesting to watch! I have a weird question. Do you get food all over your camera/or phone when you film. I make cooking videos too and I’m always getting food all over my phone. Any tips from one cooking creator to another? I’d love to learn from each other.
