Paul used to invite me to come stay with him once a month or so. Every time I was up there, he never let me pay for a single thing. His reason? "You drove all the way up here to hang out with me, it's the least I can do." He really is a good guy, but sometimes the stream can get the best of you.
Being a good host doesn't excuse a litany of moral reprehension. I'm sure he loves his friends. It's how you treat the people you don't know, the every day joe that defines who you are. All I need to do is refer back to when he used to pay homeless people, people who clearly didn't have their marbles, to do horrible, disturbing things for like, $500. Whereas you or I would have probably just given it to the poor soul. He obviously has the right to do it, but he's so so so so SOOOOOO far from a "good guy".

I lived 5hrs away from LA and randomly tweeted him jokingly, asking if I could drive up there and stay with him for a weekend. We had never spoken before this and I had probably only been watching his Twitch streams for a few weeks, at best. This was early 2017, two weeks or so after he moved to LA. Wasn't expecting a reply.
Long story short, he DM'd me and actually invited me. Ended up driving there, then he paid my way to Dreamhack in Vegas the same weekend. Didn't know the guy at all. I would definitely say LA has changed him, but truthfully, I think I'd change for the worse too, if nearly everyone around me only wanted something out of me.

Ice is the perfect example of the dangers that can come from throwing your entire life into streaming and obtaining internet fame-sacrificing one's privacy, security, and relationships. The lines start to blur between real life and entertainment, genuine interactions with others are replaced with people who just want to leech off of you, the importance you put on your audience and popularity cause your relationships and connections you used to have to crumble under the self-imposed weight of success. And if you're too afraid of losing viewers from filtering toxicity from your audience and lifestyle to get rid of them, then it not only attracts even more toxicity, but eventually molds you into becoming a toxic person yourself and tainting everyone around you.
"Ice Poseidon" is a really appropriate username for him when you think about, it really seems like Paul's life is slowly shifting into a modern Greek tragedy-the kind that makes it hard for you to feel sorry for anyone involved.

It doesn't matter if you're financially at the richest part of your life, if you don't get to have a face to face conversation with someone for a month, you're going to start losing meaning. night shift life, I relate. There was a point of my life my roommates had opposite schedules to me, so I'd never see them, work is mostly solitary, and even if you saw people it would be too loud to talk. Family lived too far away to visit. Your body knows when you're really talking to someone, or looking at a screen, and hormonally, you're not gonna feel the same if facebook is the only way you get to stay in touch.
I don’t know the appeal for live streams, but one thing I can say is that Ice is the most human (both good and bad) streamer I’ve ever seen.

He surrounded himself with the wrong people. I have a very small core group of friends and real-life friends. Those are the exact same people I would be surrounded by if my channel blew up (I don't really upload much of anything and I am too shy to vlog, so that won't happen, but still. Hanging around people like Brandon, a wannabe thug who acts tough because he beat on someone weaker who wasn't fighting back. People who wanted to use him, and he allowed it and did things to appease them and his audience, that shit never works out.
Me and my friends are people who seriously don't find anything about Ice Poseidon entertaining or even interesting to talk about, let alone watch. And even we feel sorry for him most of the time, it's gotten that down right sad.
Nothing will ever compare to Ice from 2015 to 2018. The greatest ever.

Shit. Im not even halfway through and this is making me sad. I havent heard of him but watching him cry and talking about how hard it was to make real friends and have real social interactions made me so sad. Im 34 and I know exactly what that's like. I moved away from my where I grew up and I have my husband but over the last 10 years basically have found it virtually impossible to find friends outside of the ones I've made online through my games. I've basically become a recluse and extremely introverted. Even with my husband around I get times where I feel extremely lonely.

Coming from someone who has been around since the first closing door videos, I wholeheartedly believe his current situation is down to the people he surrounded himself with when he moved to TH-cam. On twitch he had people constantly supporting him and had a close connection with his mods and loyal viewers. God it's so sad to see his transformation. I never even watched him or cared to learn about him. But seeing how he went from a lonely kid just wanting to play games with someone to being a sellout for all the gold "plated" lifestyle. It's so sad. If he would have had a real friend at the start he probably could have had a decent stream career still

@Magz z TH-cam and the deepest depths of the internet in general is full with all the people who feel empty inside and sad.. with hard lives and a need to escape whatever it is that is troubling them in life.. Paul brought laughter, a feeling of community, belonging.. a light in an otherwise very dark day. He has done so so much for peoples personal lives. The people trying to ruin him (if it is that) dont see they arent just hurting Paul.. theyre hurting everyone. I agree old ice is so much more likeable but us old fags were along for the journey, we know old Paul is still in there somewhere and he is just a product of his environment at present. He is hurting, and human. even if you dont think so. its hard to not see the person on the internet.. but he is human, eats, sleeps and shits like the rest of us.. I hope he can get all this back together. But it seems too far gone
