Every time Malcolm Jones launches into one of his guitar solos, the heart soars into the stratosphere and the goosebumps sends shivers up and down the spine. The man is just a consummate genius with a guitar in his hands. What a brilliant unique, sensitive musician! Pure magic!

Don't understand why some folk don't like this guitar solo. He's one of the best out there. Sends shivers down my spine everytime I listen to this. Some folk don't understand great music. U think thumbs down people can do better I doubt it.

Mr Jones is easily one of the most underrated guitarist of our time. He’s absolutely phenomenal!!! I randomly met him on an Edinburgh bus in Princes Street many years ago and he’s a true gentleman. I hope one day he does a solo album with his unique ambient sound.

I have followed Runrig since 1973/4 - village hall in broadford.. Unfortunately never Met Malcolm, But like so many I remember him at Stirling august 2018 he is not afraid to let his emotion show. This is what I hear in his playing, absolute passion and love - unsurpassable. I am now in my 60's and the music never fails to stir.

That’s great John. I love hearing how others see his passion through expression, it’s so true. Like you, when seeing him playing live he really does captivate the entire audience. I was brought up on the West Coast in Plockton and before I was introduced to The Doors, Zeppelin, Jimmy H, U2, Queen and many others I was listening to Runrig. The band will forever be my first love when it comes to music. All the best John 👍🏻

@@TeamLNE cheers. I am in Invergarry, are you still in the Highlands? If you see Malcolm again ask him what he is doing now!! ?

Invergarry is beautiful, braw castle too! I was last there just before lockdown on my way to do some Nessie hunting. Sadly I’m no longer in the highlands but I’ve a lot of family still up north so I do visit. I’m now based just outside Edinburgh in Newtongrange, I do miss the highlands and I stayed in Lochcarron for a period too so it’s nice to pop up frequently with my wife.

It is an anomaly. Because the band is not "about" the guitarist and because he never demanded the spotlight, he managed to go his career without being noticed. But he was a genius. I draw a parallel with Alex Lifeson of Rush, who allowed Geddy Lee and Neal part to front a three-piece band. Jones stood behind the singer and the writers. But what a player.

I loved Runrig back in the seventies when they played in Leverburgh hall on Harris. Saw them twice in London. Southbank was better than Royal albert hall. They were best in the bar of the old Hebrides ferry between Uig and Tarbert. Where in the worlds top one hundred bands would they be rated? I think I have just listened to one of the top five guitarists.

I have had another critical look at this. In most really good bands there is an empathy between the bass player and the drummer. If you watch the videos, there are glances and nods that have nothing to with the melody. I don't think Rory got the memo, he is a writer with his brother and a singer with the lead singer, and happens to play bass fairly well. And has an airtight drummer who will look after him.

  • @donstewart9592

Further to previous comments. Does any other band have a better drummer?

Not so dissimilar to Steve Hackett, they both weave tapestry's of sound from their guitars.
