@@Robert-cu9bm that was not my point. Shouldn't ministers be qualified to take up their respective positions? i.e. Health Secretary to have worked in Health
How about not allowing every non contributing foreigner to take advantage of the NHS. As for the winter fuel allowance, I suppose that the government see the advantages of freezing pensioners to death. I’m a pensioner but my heating is on. If I can’t pay the bill, what can they do about it? Imagine the scandal if pensioners like me have their power cut off for not being able to pay, that will not look good for Comrade Starmer and his government will it?
Every labour mp when questioned sing from the same hymn don’t they, they all quote the same thing the elusive 22 billion black hole. Think they’ve all been given the same script.
@gillianhunt3871 Ever heard of Parliamentary whips? Ministers / Spokespersons agree with the leadership what the party's line must be about issues; whips enforce that among the wider membership of backbenchers. Otherwise we'd have total chaos.
@@biker-jy9rv This may come as a surprise to you, but it's rare - VERY rare - that a candidate for any political party is a perfect fit for that party's ideals. When you stand for Parliament, you consider the problems facing the area you'd like to represent, which you find out by talking to people, shadowing politicians currently working in that area, and researching / reflecting on the causes of the problems, which could be local or national, domestic or foreign, resulting from government actions or from government inactions, etc. Then you think about what you believe the right solutions would be, and then you consider which political party most closely aligns with how you're thinking. Whichever party you sign up for will have its rules, and will admit you in good faith that you will follow those rules, otherwise there'll be no discipline within the party and no way to focus everyone on an agenda for government or opposition. Obviously, there's no accounting for problems that don't exist, but might do in future out of the blue (war, disease, economic collapse in the UK or elsewhere in the world, natural disaster, etc.) and when or if such problems crop up, you could find yourself at odds with your political allies about how to deal with them. We saw that during Covid, with several Conservative MPs opposing their own government over things such as the length and severity of lockdown restrictions - my own MP at the time, who normally always toed the party line, voted against the November 2020 tier allocations because it meant that the hospitality sector (by far the biggest contributor to the economy in that part of the country) would be ruined by having to follow stricter measures than were deemed necessary by local doctors. So, it's worth keeping that in mind when you consider what an MP has to do when faced with a vote on a policy that will affect millions of people. He or she has to decide "yes, I support this" or "no, I don't" on the basis of three things: the party's line on the issue in question; personal conviction about what's the right answer; the needs and wishes of the electorate in his/her constituency. For Ministers (such as Bridget Phillipson), the party's line is non-negotiable - if she doesn't want to follow it, she could resign, but this weakens the government (which she obviously supports) and takes away some of her clout when it comes to tackling local issues for her constituents. For Backbenchers, it's easier to rebel, though you run the risk of having the whip withdrawn, meaning you might not get to stand for re-election... We've already seen quite a few Labour backbenchers going against the government (on Winter Fuel for example) in recent months, but the Ministers will toe the party line in word and action unless they really feel they cannot support their leadership. There are some MPs who don't have to toe the party line - Independents, who aren't members of any political party and only have to go by their own principles and the best interests of their constituents. However, we couldn't have a majority government if all MPs were independent... indeed, we'd very likely have no government, only chaos. It's very hard to get elected as an Independent anyway, as you have to fund your campaign out of your own pocket, whereas with the backing of a political party you can draw on their funding to support your campaign.
Pensioners shafted, young kids ruined for life. This is just the start, I read today that 200,000 jobs in Retail are expected to go that's along with the 200,000 jobs going in the North Sea Oil Business. Its not going to take Labour long to completely destroy the Country.

Tough choices! The fact remains that illegal immigrants are being kept warm and cosy and the cost of accommodation to the tax payer is in the region of £5.4 billion/annum so is this an example of British justice (when pensioners have been robbed of their winter fuel allowance) or just another.example of comlete incompetence by this Labour Government?
