      Good morning Marie, add to that - that MANY of these folks - built or lived outside of the 1A Zone. Their losses likely will not be covered. I'm thinking 100's of millions in damage overall (only 1000 thousand in a million) ... And you're right - I started to mention in a video - these people - (Do you remember "A Dollar and a Deed" ?) built or moved a trailer on the only available level spot that grandpa or dad let them have. But - I'm afraid a lot of people would misunderstand my comment. The Coal companies have left, great paying jobs are scarce, flat land is scarce. Just so many factors to consider. There is no easy solution.

    I lived in Tennessee for near 28 years. Most people think that Tennessee and Kentucky do not get hot and humid or cold as heck. Surprise Surprise! Knoxville is like a big bowl that all of the humidity and storms settle in there. I have seen so many floods and bad wind storms with tons of hail, lightning and wind. Every year the spring storms would bring flooding, down trees, and much damage to my property! I remember before we moved to South Florida, we had two weeks of solid rain!

    • @EarlAndJill
      @EarlAndJill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This "weather event" as they are calling it ... doesn't appear to be new ... 50 and 80 years ago ... similar events. But less recording, fewer people, no government agencies etc. Disasters, will always be with us. I remember 76 I think - floods, snow, 21 days of barely above 0 etc. We were snowed in for 3 weeks I think.... had people with 4 wheel drives bring us stuff. Enjoy south Florida, I like Homestead, and Robert is Here ... if you know about that! LOL!

      @@richsclageter521 I hear you. I am wondering if there will be some sort of help (and I don't mean a loan) to get homes for these people. That's what they need! A good many are not in a position to build or buy a new home again. It took them many years of hard labor to get what they lost in a frightening minute! If there was some sort of fund raiser for that purpose, I would contribute to it. I don't have much more than those folks, but I think I could come up with a little to add to the pot.

I'm tired of people making comments about this areas people. I'm 70 years old. I think most people away from here don't realize how much rain we get. Trouble is it usually comes down all at once. We need to understand that being at the top of the pyramid of creation means that everything we do trickles down the structure, from top to bottom. When it reaches the bottom, the inanimate level of reality, from which everything grows, it changes it. If we ooze ill-will, it creates negative changes throughout the system, which manifest in increasingly extreme climatic and geological events.
    In other words, when human relationships go out of balance, everything goes out of balance. When our relations become extreme, everything becomes extreme; when we become violent, everything becomes violent. Each summer, the ramifications of the linkage between our relations and our world become more extreme, until we acknowledge that everything that exists, exists in a connected, hierarchical system and that whoever is at the top determines the state of the rest of the system.
    It is not as if previously, we were better people than we are today. It is simply that there were fewer people, and therefore fewer elements that exude ill will.
    Also, relationships between people in the past were less toxic than they are today. While there are fewer wars today than ever, the levels of suspicion and alienation between people are skyrocketing, to the point where people can no longer trust their own family members. As a result, wars between countries are rarer than ever, but divorce rates, domestic violence, and violence in the community, are at an all-time high.
    Even the internet, which we invented purportedly in order to connect people, is being used to abuse, deceive, and exploit people. The world-wide-web proves that everything we create, we use against others. When there is such a negative element in a system, and that element is at the top of the system, how can the entire system not go awry?
    Therefore, if we want the weather to cool, the sea-level to drop, and the storms to subside, we must cool the fire and calm the storms between us. Mutual concern, mutual responsibility, or at least the knowledge that we are dependent on each other, are necessary in order to restore balance in our world at all levels, from the ground we walk on to the hatred in our hearts.

      "We Are Stronger"
      A Poem by Steven F Gooden
      We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures.
      We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night.
      Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again. A Human Ark Divine in our human spark.

If we build back that needs to be kept in mind. And we need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground. I know this more than hard for the people of eastern Kentucky but its the only way forward that may not lead to worse than this.
