If you guys are interested in learning more about precolonial lgbtq+, Kirby Araullo has a great in-depth video on the subject (or, y'know, as in-depth as it can get with the scarcity of available records)
Agreed that the Philippines has a long way to go, although I will say that we have more visibility now than, say, ten years ago. There are a handful of lgbtq+ people and allies who are elected in office (national and local), a couple of cities have anti-discrimination ordinances, there are areas and work spaces where being queer isn't a big deal, and it was pretty cool when several pride marches and gatherings were held concurrently across different regions. While it's still an uphill battle, we can continue to hope and work towards equality even with the current state of affairs.

Listening to ur experiences about growing with heavily catholic family really made me cry, because I can relate to all of it. 😭😭😭
I’m so scared now because I’m moving to the Philippines in few months.

but them someone came to our land and added "ang bakla ay ma pupunta sa impyerno". that's when it became bad. Colonialism f8cked us up. One only needs to look at our pre colonial history to know how truly open our society is.

As a TAUSUG QUEER Documentary Filmmaker on HISTORY & Culture.... this information about transgender holding a high position among the tausug MORO community in history is incorrect. I think you were referring to BABAYLAN......

The line between gay, transgender or a simple cross-dresser was not clear during precolonial times. Our precolinial ancestors didn't care about your sex and gender expressions that's why our original terms are gender-neutral.

@@rainb5987 i dont know where you are going at with this but the point of the comment is... WE DONT HAVE Male dressing as a woman or gender neutral characters in Tausug Moro history. Unless you got a scholarly data backed by historians and experts, they by all means share it. I would love to learn different information and see its validity.

but this shouldnt have to be tolerated why should we have to be like this when we can deal with it in a way that will make us feel confident in ourselves this kind of thinking that we should just deal with it means you dont know what we are facing, so what we should just deal with constant bullying, hitting, abusing, name calling HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEONE DID THAT TO YOU?

leave this drama in the US please.... do not bring this in our country. I'm okay with the LGB part they have integrated here in but apprehensive with the TIA+ since they bring a lot of confusion for disregarding sex (male (p) and female (v)) . I do not want people policing me with their pronouns and such -- that's rich people problem/ first world problem.

Trans People exist especially in the Philippines and all you have to do is just deal with it because it’s none of your business and it’s not your life. If you don’t like that, you have the choice to shut the hell up and to stop spreading hate and bigotry in places and to people that don’t deserve it. Trans Women are Women and Trans Men are Men.
