Your work has been immensely helpful! You have definitely inspired me to get back into the game again, even though I have a lot of "GM rust" to break off. You bet I'm ready for "What's Next?"!
@@blaifornsigarcia6830 I LOVE the attachment and mod system in FFG Star Wars! It's so much simpler than it looks and allows you to customize items to give them unique flavor! A video on this would be awesome!
Thank you for doing this series. I gave it to all my new players, and as a new GM, this is tremendously valuable. Also, thank you for your responses to all my questions.
Your beginner series was really effective at breaking down all the parts and simplifying them. This system is great and you did it hella justice. Hopefully whatever y’all have next is great
I'd love to see you give ideas for stuff, like custom content, rule changes you'd make as a GM personally, homebrew Nemesis / Rivals. There is so much stuff you could do, love your videos, cannot wait to see!
I've been thinking of running a campaign with some buddies (after we are done with the D&D campaign we already are on right now). Your series has been a big help! It's also helps that you have just recently made this series. It makes it better knowing that this system is still receiving so much support. I can't wait to see what you have planned next.
Thanks! Star Wars RPG has a lot of similarities, but also a lot of differences from D&D. I hope you enjoy it, SWRPG has become my favorite Tabletop RPG.
I sincerely appreciate all the work and effort you put into this series. It's been incredibly helpful to hear it discussed along with the reading. Thank you for putting out this series.
Thank you very much for these tutorials. I missed the part about gaining 4 free points when choosing a career, if it hadn’t been for you my players would’ve been nerfed right off the bat.
Glad to help! I did make 1 mistake in that choosing careers video. So you DO get 4 free career skill ranks, and 2 free specialization skill ranks when you select your first Career and Specialization, however.... When you buy another new specialization, you DO gain the new specialization skills as career skills, but you do NOT gain free ranks in the skills.
Discovered your series on Reddit about halfway through it. Been loving it and am going back through them all. Keep up the amazing content! This RPG is great and needs a content creator like you to simply describe the elements that make the system up. Really looking forward to the content ahead. I saw a suggestion and thought I would second it, maybe get some in depth examples of how you would run a encounter? Or to show how you would make a minion/rival/nemesis from scratch?
I'm preparing to run my first game. I read the edge book partially a while ago, and was dreading having to fully again. This series helped me get a good view on the mechanics so I can focus on certain points in my preparation. Thanks!
I'm not sure if you'd have any interest in doing so, but I'd love to see a similar guide to The Genesys system itself or maybe covering the fantasy roleplaying version of D&D that's related to the system. I truly have become a big advocator of this dice system and enjoy the aspects of role playing versus roll playing. Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Great series for new players and GMs. As a player and GM of this system, I will highly recommend this to others! Will you ever cover Genesys or the genesys books?
I also let my players take an action to make a Cool check to try to dispel any fear effects they may be suffering from. Most of them seem to appreciate the trade-off for losing a turn but having the agency to try to get rid of it. The cool check difficulty is usually the same as the original fear check, though it may have changed depending on what else has transpired.
They shoot once, upgraded roll for each extra minion in a group. So a stormtrooper normally rolls 3g Group of 2 rolls 2g1y Group of 3 rolls 1g2y Group of 4 rolls 3y
One thing I've never been sure of: do minion groups suffer damage multiple times from Blast type weapons? So if my player throws a mk2 emp grenade at a minion group of B1 battle droids do the droids suffer multiple instances of damage for each minion in the area of the grenade?
IIRC if BLAST is able to be activated with 2 advantage then everyone engaged with the original target suffers damage = to blast rating, plus damage from successes. I imagine that also applies to each minion in a group, so I would say yes.
How do the dice add up/work when enemies attack a player. So say you have a inquisitor attack a jedi player with a lightsabre would you add up the adversaries dice as you would a players and then have it roll against 2 purple dice? Same with for example storm troopers attacking players would they roll green and yellow vs say 3 purple dice. Also in combat when would a purple be upgraded to a red dice?
Would you be willing to do a video on creating NPCs? More specifically Nemesis type characters. I’m having trouble creating Nemesis characters that are balanced to where my players are without making them too strong/weak but still be cool characters narratively.
Typically you want them to be stronger than your players so it is a challenge for them. I can add it to the video idea list I have, it kinda depends on if I think I could do a good job with that video idea.
So with minion groups is the entire group considered one activation? Like Player Player Enemy Player Player Or would the 4 storm troopers each count as their own? Meaning during a round the unit can attack 4 times? Or is it just once?
The image was showing max wounds threshold going down only because I wanted to also show the dice rolls for skills also decreasing in yellows and thats how the site works. I think it's mostly personal preference on however the GM wants to track it.
I don't really get the Warrior: Aggressor tree.. What exactly happen when a NPC fails the fear check. Does he only get one set back dice.. Or does he get dmg from anything?
@@dougmachinedc6178 just barely failing the fear check could be 1 or 2 setback dice. Badly failing could be upgrading difficulty of every check (so 1 purple becomes a red). It all depends on the story, and how badly you think their characters would be affected.
Do you tell your players the classification (Minons, rivals, a nemesis, whatever) of their opponents? "You're up against a minion group of stormtroopers, but this guy over here is a special Rival-level trooper." Or do you just sorta play it out without telling them? "You're up against five stormtroopers. Looks like one of them has a stun baton!" Also, are the players privy to knowing how much health their opponent starts with or has left or do you keep that a secret?
No I don't tell them, though if they know the rules they may piece it together themselves. Such as a stormtrooper being a minion with 5hp, or, a Sargeant stormtrooper being a rival, etc...
How much did you enjoy the Beginner's Guide Series, and are you excited for What is Next?
found this awesome and super helpful! Made it easy to get people into some of the rules! I am excited to see what ya do next!!

Yes, eventually. I am actually semi-new to Genesys, so I want to play it a bit more before making content for it.
Awesome Thank you so much for helping us all!

Yeah thats a really cool idea!
Hey, great series. I had a question about minions. I know they attack as a group, but does a group of 4 stormtroopers shoot once or 4 times?

Group of 2 rolls 2g1y
Group of 3 rolls 1g2y

They roll the same way PCs do. Their ability vs the difficulty from range or melee.

Each minion *group* has their own initiative slot. So they attack once.
Love the series Nate, but I think you made an error in terms of minion wounds. You should count up from 0, not down from 20, right?
The image was showing max wounds threshold going down only because I wanted to also show the dice rolls for skills also decreasing in yellows and thats how the site works. I think it's mostly personal preference on however the GM wants to track it.

I don't really get the Warrior: Aggressor tree.. What exactly happen when a NPC fails the fear check. Does he only get one set back dice.. Or does he get dmg from anything?
Up to the GM, depending on how well or badly the NPC rolls the fear check.

I didnt know you could use leadership to break someone out of the fear mechanic. And ive been playing and running in this system for 5 years
finished just about everything. thought you had more subs mate hahahaha.
Is it just me, but should it be..."See that like button? Punch it, Chewie"
Ooh man I didn't even think about it

Something that I am a little confused about is if the minion group loses a skill rank whenever a member of the group is killed?
Yes, they do lose a rank when one minion in the group dies
