I was concerned about the effects of borax used in my laundry water on the plant life in my area. Now I know to be mindful of how I dispose of the waste water if I use borax. Love your videos, I just bought your houseplant planner, another thing u could do is a bundle if ppl want to buy all the books. You are great, I’m really enjoying every video
The 1st time I really learned about boron & became interested in it was when I got some celery with "checking" (tiny almost chicken-foot looking marks) on the inner side of the ribs. I learned that is caused by a boron deficiency in the soil.
Hello Ashley, thank you so much for the information. I have heard that people are also using boric acid as a boron supplement for plants due to better solubility. What is your opinion on that? Should i use boric acid instead of borax and if so, what will the application rate be compare to borax?
Sea water (or sea salt) has 81 elements or "trace elements" that can be used for your plants at a dilution rate of 1 table spoon per gallon. Boron is included in sea water 👍🏻 I regularly use this for trace elements and the plants are fine.
I just found out that the municipal compost ive used the last 3 years has a boron content of 185 ppm. Ive used about 8 truck loads of it all over my property in that timeframe. Even have mixed it 50/50 in my raises beds. Everything grows well in it, no idea how it hasnt killed everything on my property 😂😂. Only thing i can think of is i have a very high ph about 8. So the plants may just not absorb it? What do you think?
Bless you Ashley! Thanks for the usage instructions! Can I mix borax, calcium, and Epsom Salt, and do it all at once? They seem to be needed at the same times of the plant's life.
Excellent video! Although somewhat immobile, Boron is also used in the roots where, it reduces the polarity of sugar and helps prevent such things as heart-rot in sugar-beets.
So glad I found your video, I'm battling a plague in the soil on my potted plants, I wanted to know if I could use borax to treat the soil of plants that have died to be able to reuse it, and use diatomaceous earth on the living plants as it's more gentle because here it's more expensive.
@@GardeningInCanada Great! I'm planning on spreading the dry soil in a box and sprinkle some borax so when those critters step on it die. I'm so done with them 😂
Boron is involved in calcium uptake and also transport of sugar into the sugar sinks and from the leaves and down to the roots. An easy way to test for a deficiency is take a brix reading in the morning and again in the evening and if there is no difference then u r deficient cause the plant cant move the sugars to the roots at the end of the day

Hi - just came across this video by chance when I searched Borax dilution for gardening. Thanks for your video / info. I'm from Malaysia - therefore in the tropics. My papaya has ringspot virus, and someone recommended me to spray boron (borax diluted). After watching your video, I'm keen to spray 1 tbsp borax + 1 gallon water over my fruits and whole papaya tree. My question - can I still consume the papaya fruits after the 1 tbsp borax + 1 gallon H20 dilution per your recommendation? Is it dilution safe? Or do you recommend that I cull the plant? thank you in advance
You definitely can. Boron is a mineral found in the earth. Borax is less toxic than table salt. Makes you wonder why borax has been outlawed in many countries…🤔
hello! I’m new here and thank you for the very scientific approach! I’m looking for a gentle solution for controlling mushrooms in the yard, and I read somewhere else that “dry laundry detergent” can be used to control that, so I’m assuming that must be borax? What are your thoughts on that and I’m curious the chemical component that might work here. I used unseasoned mulch from my town which we get for free, to cover up an area of the yard that I am redoing-trying to snuff out an invasive plant that took hold there. And these questionable mushrooms came up in the mulch, which I would like to stomp out, for fear they might be poisonous for my pets. I don’t wanna use anything toxic in my yard, so seeking a gentle solution, that might also benefit the ph of the soil for future garden uses (grass, vegetables, perhaps) Thank you for making your videos! Very interesting and I’ve subscribed today

I do have a video suggestion. One thing I'm trying this year is to add used yeast to each plant as a fertilizer. I know there are many people with videos about it. The yeast I'm using is the left over yeast from brewing, but it's same idea. Does yeast help and if so how to and not to use it. Just a thought.
