I like that Skoll has a black stripe on his face while Hati has a white one. It's just a nice touch showing they are brothers.
They are basically yin and yang a lot of mythologies share similar ideas and mostly just reflect the region they originate from

That and the fact that they were sleeping with their muzzles touching. Like they were both like "Well, at least we're stuck together. Good to see you, bro."

@@ginger_jesus4716 The game calls Hati the black one because he chases the moon and brings the daylight while Skoll does the opposite. People that really studied Norse mythology say Skoll chases the sun and Hati chases the moon both are equally important to the Norse culture.
Why do Skoll and Hati look cute when they were sleeping? It's relieving to know that Fenrir's children were rescued by the Giants and not enslaved in Asgard. Must've been one last "Fuck You" to Odin.
In this game, they're not Fenrir's kids. Nobody even knows who Fenrir is, which is weird considering his role in Ragnarok is even bigger than Jormie's
@@the_infinexos Hróðvitnir's role, not Fenrir's. It seems the writers have disconnected the relation between the two names completely in this story and made them two separate beings
@@atjedits6565 no they’re not. Garm was just a horrid creature chained up in helheim to stop the 9 realms being ripped to shreds. It’s never mentioned who the parents are of skol and hatti in god of war, but in actual mythology I believe this are the children of loki

@@rattings9121 Actually there is a boat rowing dialogue in the 2018 game where Mimir explains how Skol and Hati were born from Hróðvitnir (Search God of War - Story of Skoll and Hati - Wolves of Ragnarok, timestamp 1:07) which in Norse mythology is supposed to be Fenrir but in the game lore is inferred to be a separate entity as it had already happened (so there is Fenrir, Hróðvitnir and Garm as three different canids)
5:51 you can do that more than once to get another piece of dialog that has Kratos say I wanted to see the wolves again.
Intentional or not, they did a good job giving Skoll and Hati, not just personality, but also a relationship.
When you first see them, they're not just sleeping together, they're sleeping with their muzzles up against each other. Like, once the moon didn't come back for so long, they decided to just wait it out and look on the bright side that they finally get to see each other for the first time in who knows how long.
"Good to see you, bro." (nuzzles)
"You too." (nuzzles back until they fall asleep)
When Atreus returns the moon, the one whose job is to chase it looks... Conflicted. He snarls at it and howls, while the other one just stares at it. Like on the one hand, it's his purpose, but on the other hand, it means their time together is over.
When it rejoins the sun in the eclipse, they both do the exact same thing: Sit on their haunches and stare up at it. Like they're both waiting to see which one of them has to go.
And when he finally shoots the arrow and it gets the sun moving, one wolf leaves and the other one howls like he's saying farewell. Then he glares coldly at them before slowly returning to his spot to lie down all by himself. He gives a gift, so he knows it had to be done, but he also can't help but be bitter at being alone again.
Like they've acknowledged that chasing the sun and moon are their purposes -- their burdens. And though they're glad to have their purpose returned to them, they're also a little sad that it's over.
All that without saying a single word. The only disappointment: That you couldn't pet him the way you could Fenrir at the end. When I saw him lie down all by himself like that, I so wished there was an option for me as Kratos or Atreus to go up and pet him and/or assure that they'll come back to visit if he/they'll let them.
Skoll and Hati are equal neither is greater or more powerful than other both have a important task. The sun and moon in many ancient cultures were looked at as being equally important to the world.

Its sad that once hati returns to his spot and lays down to sleep alone u can hear the soft whine that shows he's upset about it but understands

I thought Skoll was the black moon wolf and the one with blue eyes.
At 0:01 I can't tell y'all how deep my heart sank seeing the wolf chase the moon out of the sky its so uncanny that even tho I know it's a video game it still gave me goosebumps
Love the fact you literally get the key of dusk and dawn from hati. Getting to change day and night whenever you want is so cool. On the plus side, besides hearing about them they actually get a part in the game.

Ya know, its interesting that during Ragnorok you don’t really see Skol or Hati eat the sun and moon. They remain as they are chasing their quarry when them catching their quarries will be one of the things that start ragnorok

I know that Loki is Fenrir’s dad, but I thought Hati had a different dad
The part where Atreus shoots the arrow to the sun reminds me of that one Greek story where Hercules was traveling through a dessert. He got so fed up with the heat, he fired an arrow right into the sun. Basically he was like “fuck it, I’m getting rid of the sun”
Hercules: (Shoots Arrow At Sun) GET THE F*** OUT OF HERE HELIOS
Helios: Alright FINE (Runs away and takes sun with him)
Kratos is already the God of peace in this game. He give council to everyone and fights to keep others from fighting. He even accepts he may end at the end of this. He is already the God of peace.
You know i completely forgot that Skoll and Hati are suppose to be Fenrir's children. Which is why they have the stripes on their faces.

Seeing Skol and Hati are kinda like wolf versions of Celestia and Luna
I loved how when Atreus puts the moon in front of Hati, it moves its nose, then when Atreus pulls his knife out it moves its ears, and the exact moment he opens the box where the moon was kept, it opens its eyes. It's like Hati felt its prey was near.

I love that detail that when he sets the moon free it literally goes up right away and since the sun and moon are technically out at the same time it causes the eclipse.

You can also briefly see them during the battle of Ragnarok mowing down Odin's army.
For some reason i thought i SAW skoll and hati at asgard fighting in ragnarok

Bruh I am working on editing out the vocals for that skoll and hotti theme
This day and night mechanic was annoying because the map didn't show you which spots were blocked off during the day or during the night, and you had to walk to one of the bowls to change the time of day.
It would have been better if you could just change the day and night cycle from any spot on the map rather than going to a bowl.
I heard you can see them in Ragnorok fighting trolls in the background

aren't they the sons of Fenrir ??
In the northern mythology, Sköll and Hati are actually the children Fenrir. Why they chase the sun & moon is unclear, but catching up to them initiate Ragnarök.
Norse mythology is filled with symbolic and allegorical elements, and the placement of Sköll and Hati in the sky is part of the mythological tradition. The exact manner in which they came to occupy this role is not explicitly described in surviving Norse texts.
I personally like to see them as the norse pondaux to Yin and Yang.

I Think Heimdall left Helheim while Loki was looking for the Piece of the Mask and went to Vanaheim to steal the Moon , Plus there is no Moon and Sun in Helheim

It's an _interpratation._
It's a retelling based on the many alternative ways the story could be told.
They're father is a primordial wolf and that just happens to not be Fenrir, because he's a mortal wolf this time around.
It's not bad, just a way to fit all the legends into different, less simple roles.
Let's remember that actual mythology, for many cultures, was incredibly inconsistent with many different interpretations, variations, versions, retellings, and etc. Greek Mythology wasn't a stranger to that, with many gods having several different origin stories to them and many different versions of the gods themselves that had varying personalities and traits.
One of the most famous Christian stories, that Dante story, is essentially just self-insert fanfiction that somehow became canon Christian Mythology. Honestly, modern day mythological accuracy just seems kinda pointless when the historical people and cultures who created the original myths themselves weren't exactly very keen on being consistent or whatever.
Cause this isn't a Norse mythology but game with most Norse mythology duh
This is a fun interpretation of the mythos just like all other God of War games. Besides, it's weird to trying to realistically figure out how Loki fathered Jormungandr, Fenrir, and...mothered Sleipnir? Along with how Heimdall had 9 mothers.
If you haven't caught on to the fact that this obviously doesn't follow a single path in mythology, you're not too bright. You know what else breaks nord mythology? A Spartan traveling from thier world, to Midgard, and killing thors sons, Baldor, and and proceeding to use the bifrost to travel to different realms. You picked a weird time to notice this follows a different narrative
