Mkay, truth be told - MX is not a rolling release like Arch or Solus, but it's not fully static either like Ubuntu or Fedora. So semi-rolling I guess? The line is so blurry these days. It stays relatively up to date without having to reinstall or risk a full distro upgrade every six months.

I'd say Fedora is slowly becoming a rolling distro, and I noticed that when KDE Plasma updated to a whole new version. On the same version of Fedora. It's crazy

@@MichaelMantion, I suspect that just as you don't like background music in videos, IG doesn't like being given ultimatums in the comments. It's one thing to say that you don't like some aspect of a video, but I have seen other creators rip folks who threaten to unsubscribe a new orifice.
For the record, the music (present in the first two minutes) doesn't add anything for me personally, although it was soft enough that I didn't really mind it.

You must be a Gnome user, not a KDE user. MX has been one of my go-to's for years, I came to it via the now-discontinued MEPIS distribution (my first install was MEPIS 7.5, KDE 3), which I hit on a decade ago hopping thru KDE releases in the late 2000's. MEPIS is the "m" in MX, the distro has nothing to do with Mexico. The "x" is Anti-X, which started out as the XFCE fork of MEPIS, but has pretty much taken over the community and distro (not a bad thing).

What makes MX Linux so different in my opinion is that it is debian based, it uses more up to date software from the debian backports repo, also I love the various tools they offer, like the Nvidia drivers install tool, the Snapshot creating tool, the MX conky manager, Live USB creator ect... and the MX forums, they're very experienced people to help you at the forums and it works very well in laptops, the only downside IMO is that AFAIK you cannot upgrade to next Stable version safely as with pure debian because of the use of backports packages, you have to do a full install, the good side is that you can get a lot of packages that aren't available by default in the pure debian repos and it still offers 32-bits ISO install images!

I beg to differ, Debian is that and when you see how many of the world's most used distros are BASED on it, my opinion holds a bit of weight. Everybody loves their distro of course, but let's see if MX is still alive in 4 years. Distro watch is full of thousands of Linux Distros that are just a flash in the pan, come and then vanish without ever be heard again. I don't know why so many people have to use the total marginal ones, instead of helping the main ones get better, it truly fragments the Linux user community somefthing wicked. Also, I doubt that MX brings anything new to the table, it is the same kernel that everybody else uses, the same tools, the same desktop environments, probably the same package manager, the same stuff, just mixed together differently. I also would not be writing this here if I have not heard somebody profess their eternal love and their distro being THE BEST EVER so many times before, for distros that you and me have never heard again since.

The host, Rocco was one of the two founders of the Destination Linux TH-cam Channel. Rocco also hosts a BDLL European Edition once a month where the show starts at 3:00 PM EST. Not sure if that helps out where you are. The "hangout" is hosted on Zoom which can be used as a web app or installed on Arch via AUR or installed as a Flatpak and probably a Snap. Every week we install and run a chosen distro or DE and then talk about our experience the fallowing week. This week is trying out the new GNOME 3.32 release. So Arch is pretty much the easiest option for this one.

Hello, I'm using MX 18.2 and have installed Cin, I did as they advice on their site for Debian: www.cinelerra-gg.org/debian-package/
(by the way, in MX default shortcut for terminal is F4 and all apt commands should be run with: sudo)
      citation:
      Debian
For Debian package install, run the following command in a terminal:
      apt install software-properties-common apt-transport-https
Plus for Debian 9 (Stretch), run:
      apt-add-repository cinelerra-gg.org/download/pkgs/debian9
Next for Debian 9, edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list to make sure the added line contains [trusted=yes] as shown below:
      deb [trusted=yes] cinelerra-gg.org/download/pkgs/debian9 stretch main
Then run these commands to install it:
      apt update
      apt install cin
      Edit:
Here is my video which shows how to install Cinerella on MX Linux 18.3:

I started with Linux Mint, then I tried Manjaro, then Fedora and this week I am trying out MxLinux. So far I like it. The things about it I like, I don’t have to relearn command line like in Fedora and Manjaro. The Cairo dock is a bit wonky but overall I have been having fun with it. Thanks for the video.
I think with cheaper laptops these days and even older laptops and desktops, people are discovering they can revitalize their older gear. Plus it’s fun. The open source software has progressed so much in the last decade that you really don’t need to buy Mac or Windows.
I do like how updated Manjaro is. Its bleeding edge with programs which I enjoy for photography and video editing. Honestly I hate going to the repositories and seeing 1+ year old software.
MxLinux I am still figuring out and reading the wiki. All the distros are a bit different and it’s nice to have the incredible options for any Linux software you can imagine. This is why I love Linux. You can make it your own and still have the benefits of it meshing with Mac and Windows if you do business.

Keep in mind I've installed Arch, Debian, Solus, Manjaro, and Ubuntu on this same machine with zero issues, so may be just a bug in the installer included with that particular version, though I can't confirm it, since I didn't run the installer via terminal to see what it was doing in the background.

I use mint 17.3 too. Colors are a bit washed out. A little jitter. Looks like you are watching through dirty glass pane.
Mx does have it's issues. Mostly with you wanting certain softwares that are not native to that OS.
It works VERY BEST at single tasking.
But open 2 browser running the same flash game on each at the same time and it crawls.
One browser and it is great.
It uses Emblems if you want to decorate a folder unlike Mint KDE where you can colorize a folder (say you want a green colored folder for family safe movies and a red one for rated R movies - can't do that in Mx unfortunately).
A few minor aggravations but what Linux distro does have those?
I give it 7 out of 10 stars. Would take a miracle for any OS to get 10 stars from me....

@@crazysquirrel9425 What are your favorite distros for average user without much experience with Linux? I personally tend towards Ubuntu, Mint, MX, Kubuntu, KDE Neon and Manjaro. I also loved KDE Plasma at first sight, not only the standard interface is beautiful, intuitive, polished and full of options, but also some KDE apps, like Dolphin, which is perhaps the only file manager in Linux so far that I have seen that is really complete and that I have not missed any option that I have in Explorer and even more.

@@matheus5230 My go to distro is mint 17.3 KDE 64 bit on this laptop. On the home desktop which came with core2duo and vista I use Linux Lite OS (VERY VERY stable)
I like mint kde and Mx (but Mx has some issues I am trying to remedy through them).
If you want speed then use Sparky linux or Mx Linux or Linux Lite OS.
If you want sheer features you should get perhaps Mint KDE or Ubuntu gamer or Ubuntu Studio.
Most ubuntu is OK but full of bloatware (features one would normally never use).
A lot depends on what you use your computer for.
without knowing your rig specs and your intended use it is hard to suggest anything.
Avoid ANYTHING that wants you do to much comand line unless you LOVE typing and remembering complicated syntax to get a simple task done.
If your system is sparse on speed to begin with then you might consider puppy linux for ancient computers or sparky or Mx if you have a *little* better stuff.
Lubuntu is another lightweight one. Ubuntu Mate works pretty well although I do not like the placement of taskbar and other frustrating things.
Again these are from my personal experiences and opinions.
It all boils down to what hardware you have and what you want to use the computer for.
I use mine for multimedia (ripping DVD's, encoding, watching) and internet.

You're being simple. It's more than that. It's the package as a whole. And yes it's fast and it works.

Thanks will give it a try. I put LMDE on an old dual core HP lap top. But cinnamon is a bit too heavy for it (ended up installing XFCE anyway) so MX Linux is looking like an option.

Just a theory. There are several reasons to like MX Linux. It offers control centres that are easy to use. It has a reasonable collection of software to get you started. Adding stuff is a cinch, mostly. But (and I hope this continues with the new coming version) they have conquered XFCE. I used to be a PCLinuxOS KDE user, but v4/5 has made KDE a nightmare. As have loads of other desktops. XFCE4 is a dream to use. It's lightweight but powerful enough to scale up for the best hardware. Its panel, with its Dropdown launchers where you can add apps without dragging them from existing .desktop files, make it easy to get to your apps quickly and easily. And most importantly, they run without XFCE4 getting in the way! I've seen XFCE4 on other distros and they haven't taken control of it quite as much.
Another thing. I always wanted to be able to run another distro alongside PCLinuxOS and I've tried loads. There was always a showstopper. Either the installer never convinced me that it wasn't going to erase my entire disk, or something didn't work, or it tried to stop me doing something. MX, like PCLinuxOS, is my friend. They both make me feel that I own my computer and not vice versa.

Having used a previous version of MX Linux I can say from experience it was easy to install setup and navigate, it was as stable as they come and as long as you didn't tinker to much with it it just worked.

MX linux was my first distro. I tried installing ubuntu first, but experienced a weird issue were it was constantly in 480p, and after dealing with that, i just wanted a one click install for video drivers, and noticed that MX linux had that in one of their screenshots, so I installed it. It worked great, but now I use arch, since I wanted something more easily configurable

It has been really growing in Distro Watch for some time, it is a very good distro aimed at common users while still letting you have high control and tweak the system. It is a distro in ascension in the last year. It has also an average rating of over 9/10 in Distrowatch based in over 600 ratings!
