    I mean is a duopoly in the DE side really even that bad, most of the new innovations and features come from those two (Gnome and KDE) anyway. Xfce and Mate exist to not make new features or reinvent themselves but to stay as is and be good at being that, cinnamon too is good at what it wants to do but wouldn't call it innovative and is here to stay as long as mint does, I haven't used lxqt for more than an hour so I won't comment on it. And given how desktop linux works anyone can make their own custom window manager setup if they have the time and desire to do so, and due to the nature of open source if gnome or kde mess up the community or distro makers can just fork them to create better DE like with gnome 3.

    KDE Plasma (v5) didn't exist when Budgie was released. You're thinking of KDE Oxygen (v4). And yes, it was pretty terrible. But now we have KDE Plasma, and there is no longer any need for any other desktop environment. 😋

    • @GarrisIiari
      @GarrisIiari ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is anything Budgie isn't, it's slow. It used to be one of the snappiest, which was the big reason to use it. It's problem is that ALL DEs are now snappy, and it needs more reasons to exist.

    another distro going to die . rip solus and budgie.
    The key problem is fragmentation in Linux distro space. if all the developers could come together and build a single DE with a proper GUI toolkit (gtk is really worse no proper documentation and anybody looking to learn have a hard time unlike Qt) we will be able to build something that's better than win 11 .

    Budgie is severely flawed on Ubuntu Budgie 22.04.1. GNOME is a better desktop overall, which is best used on distros such as Fedora and Arch.
