Awesome video as always. Everything about Wing Chun including the bong is most effective in the clinch. The Lap Sau drill is really to build endurance/power in your elbows and knees so when you're in the clinch, you can deliver power in your punch from your elbows. Most people in the clinch can't punch because there is no power in their swings. In Wing chun, your power comes from your elbows and "rooted" knees. I love punching through people in the clinch. It shocks people how much power Wing Chun has in the clinch. Anyways thank you again!!
"Nothing more rewarding, than getting ones thesis validated by ones peers that exceeds oneself in excellence" appreciations for sharing with all of us Sifu Alan. like you, i always considered the bong as an short range, transitional technique/method/concept as to allow an follow up technique.. a lot of people get blinded by dogma" set form" as structure is relative. technique is never set in stone, as long as one is able to apply correct energy/intent and /adapt and overcome ones opponent as like you say, it is ones opponent that dictates tactics. people who really haven't had any real life experience with violence seems to neglect this. drills to train attributes, and fighting for the sake of surviving, are very two different things.. incorrect mindset with either, will assure failure with both. but training and using both as an aid to excel ones skill set, then i believe one is on a more closer path towards the truth. therefore many traditionalists lose their faith in the system, as they refuse to adapt it to real life. what they want do to, and what their opponent will let them do, and their ability to overcome that, sets the standard for their overall base of truly understanding the applicable functionality of the wing chun system. "everything is applicable if its allowed, getting your technique in against an opponent who is actively opposing you, that is true skill." chinese proverb. Query; have you ever cross trained, touch hands or sparred with other styles of wing chun? Or have you only judged by window shopping, TH-cam videos or hearsay? The absolute best videos on “real” wing chun would be you(Sifu Alan Orr)showing why your not worried about someone else’s style, views, philosophies or whatever because your training beats theirs in real time as you say you prefer! How do you know that you’re not selling yourself, students or audience short if you haven’t tested other styles? I know you’re a great teacher, but it would literally put you over the top to show that your way of approaching wing chun is best! It would be great for everyone.
Of course. I have trained 6 styles of WC and have trained WC for 30 years. I have taught seminars and rolled with 100's of people from different styles of WC. Go on the Wing Chun Forum on facebook and ask the people that have rolled with me. I'm not trying to say I am the best. I am saying I have a clear understanding and everything we do is tested. My fight team have had over 400 fights using our WC in combat sports as well.
