Great set. I always have had a sweet spot for this quintet, in part due to it being Pat Metheny's first "real" jazz gig. Too bad the video and audio are so out of synch.
@@BibiAudiofil2 Help me understand... You put it in better sync... And then you took out 10 mins of it? Isnt that just as bad or worse than being out of sync?
Falling Grace! Such a time of change and discoveryl They were changing the face and sound of the music with each time they played, each player so young yet individually creating the soundscape of the future of improvised music. Mick would tell me about the ways his time in this band encapsulated the dynamics of being family, artists, friends and youthful adventurers. They would create sculptures with their instruments on stage, each show beginning with a visual nod to creating something balanced, new, unexpected and dangerously precarious. Mick's time with Swallow at this time sealed a lifetime bond with Swallow with whom he'd cherish to his death.
I was at Berklee at that time and knew why Pat was in the band: before Pat, the group was playing in Miami, Pat came to the musicians dressing room before the show and asked Gary if he could sit in: Gary asked him what song of the group he was familiar with, and Pat said "any one". I don't know which song he played but thats how he got the gig (Celia Vaz).
I was a student at Berklee too. 69-73. Piano/composition and had Gary as a teacher. Just being around him and listening to him play was an education. I enjoy listening to your music, Ms. Vaz, really beautiful. Thanks also for the story about Pat, so much pure talent. I will share this story with you. I was working at the Berklee Library one day when a very young-looking blond boy asked for some music. He told me his name was Gary Burton and I responded "Yeah, and I'm Cal Tjader." He said "No, really" We laughed about later when I was in his class.
I saw this grouping in Boston in 1974, it was magical. My first wife didn’t understand the magic and I knew the marriage would go nowhere. . . Saw Coryell later that year, alone.
ah ah ah et alors apres toutes ces annees avez vous trouvez une femme qui comprend le jazz ??? je crois qu on est nombreux dans ce cas......j ai vu aussi larry corryel ....
Several friends and I saw this band in tiny club in Evanston IL in 1974. It was an amazing concert. Metheny was unknown then , but not for long. Burton’s playing spectacular. What a great band!
Yeah! I saw that show as well. At Amazing Grace, I think it was called. I had been a Gary Burton fan for years, since I saw him with Stan Getz. Metheny blew me away, as did Burton and the whole band. An amazing show.
@@2totube It was Amazing Grace. There were carpeted risers instead of chairs and no libations. Others I saw there were Keith Jarrett who played solo for an hour, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, Paul Winter Consort, John Fahey. What great music.
I had the privilege to see this exact lineup at a vibraphone clinic given by Gary Burton at the University of Houston...he brought the whole group! They played almost the entire new(at the time) album and in between songs took questions I had never seen or heard of Pat Metheny, but he was really soaking up the great atmosphere this group created. A bassist friend of mine and I were amazed and indeed fortunate.
I saw this group in concert at Glassboro College in New Jersey. First time I ever saw or heard of Pat. I had been a fan of Burton for years before that, starting with George Shearing
I saw this same line up but add Eberhard Weber on bass at the maintenance shop in Ames, IA. Think the ticket was a whopping 3 dollars. Sat at a small table maybe 8 foot away from the stage. Possibly my favorite all time concert.
How does Metheny have his 12 string tuned here? I know later on, on his own records, he sometimes used one with the pairs tuned in fifths, but it sounds like he's using conventional 12 string tuning here (i.e. octaves on the four lower pairs, unisons on the top two).

One of my favourite "new Jazz" quintets in the late 1970's from the ECM label... Burton, Goodrick, Metheny, Swallow & Moses..wow ! Thanks for sharing.

Wow! This is the youngest I've seen Pat Metheny. Crazy 12-string guitar, too! Thanks for posting.

I saw this same band at Symphony Hall in Boston on a bill with Oregon and Keith Jarrett quartet.
Saw this lineup in Springfield oMassachusetts in 1974, great group! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
man, it's like a 70s jazz dream team
This is so awesome. What a time capsule! And, I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know that a very young Pat Metheny was once in Burton's band.
Thank you for all the uploads of these great performances!

This one is going way back. Very interesting.
Love "Sea Journey"!!! What a composition!!! Burton and Metheny!!! Crazy good!!! 🎸🎹🎹🎹🎸🥁 All the very best from Canada!!! ✌️❤️🌟🐐

20 yr old Pat Metheny... crazy... he has almost been playing professionally for 50 years...
I enjoyed this, Thank you.
the song at 20:30 is a mike gibbs composition called “three”....
thank you ! info updated :)
Steve Swallow’s stretch at 22.06 is superhuman! Such long fingers, nearly span an octave.
On an EB-2D. Still tiny compared to the big fiddle he played for years before.
and the song at about 26:30 is a steve swallow composition called “como en vietnam”
thank you very much for contributing ! :)
Is it fair to say Pat Metheny had yet to find his voice and tone, at this time? Not sure the 12 string makes it any easier.
Its a example of the sound that Pat took on as the PMG. You can hear lone jack, and phase dance sniglets in his playing.
パットメセニーまだ若い😮😮こんな映像見る事初めて😮😮でもパットメセニーに間違いない音です。

No longer video of the interview?!? This is audio only
Great.
Does anyone know where to find the full concert?
👍Thanx
Rakalam Bob Moses!!!
Why is the audio not in sync?
Hello. I will upload it again. I will do the sync manually. sorry

What kind of guitar 🎸 is Pat playing ?
That's a Fender Coronado XII .
Pat's tone is totally different here!
What a f@@kin line up
😀🍎🍀💙
Chick Corea Sea Journey
Well we can see now that Metheny didn’t start out with all the right notes....
Moses, not my favorite drummer. they are superb but the first tune sounds like Chick Corea's Spain. Guess why.
Gary's performances with Chick Corea
- far more worthwhile.
in what sense 'more worthwhile'? define your terms.
