    One thing I really learned as a flamboyant natural is diagonal lines look really good! They help define the body and because diagonals are inherently dynamic, they keep the eye moving constantly, and movement and freedom are great for flamb.naturals. it helps honor that vertical line. Which is why wrap dresses and tops are so good. So consider diagonal lines at the waist as opposed to horizontal lines which have no movement. It’s kind of an indirect waist emphasis moment.

      I'm (probably) a FN with a rectangle body shape and this is SO TRUE. Horizontal hemlines, even when I'm on the slim side, makes me look like a fridge lol The asymmetrical hemlines in tops (or those fake scarf, V shaped ones) are such a game changer!

    “… and then small woman gets inspired and they get lost in it”🤣🤣🤣👌🏾Ever since I learned about my body type ,I realised i had a natural affinity towards clothing pieces that accentuated it the way these styling rubrics recommend.
    Another thing is,once I saw these categories -I can’t unsee certain things.

    I often find that the tips for FN don't work anymore when you are not celebrity skinny like in the pictures. I'm FN and midsized with an hourglas shape so my waist is my thinnes part and if I don't highlight it I look 10 kilos heavier. Therefore I really struggle wearing the oversized midwaist flowy clothes

      Maybe you guys are mistyped. You sound more like classic or soft classic types.
      I'm chunky fn and I look awesome in oversize and long. I look awful in belted or fitted waistline.

    Summer has always been really hard for me to dress/shop for, but this gave me some great ideas. Even though most outfits were dresses, I really appreciate the inclusion of two-piece outfits. There’s always way too much emphasis on dresses & ball gowns in body type guides. It feels lazy, especially for those of us with long lines.

    Excellent advice and attention to detail, as always, Aly. As an FN, I have learned that one of the most important details is to allow some sense of space, or air, between my body and my clothing. I can wear very tailored and “sleek” pieces so long as there is something that gives a sense of that air. The other is definitely honouring that vertical line. Once you get the hang of those two details, you realize the options are endless, really. We FN’s are pretty fortunate, I’d say 😃

    • @CieloChic
      @CieloChic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could you give examples of those tailored pieces? Working in government can be a challenge when you do boho well, but have a meeting where you need to look well put together and professional.

    • @ZurditaDinamita
      @ZurditaDinamita 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CieloChic I would recommend some 80s-90s inspo. Those suits were tailored while big and loose too, and those characteristics are the keys for FN (that's why boho works so well for us in the first place).

    • @ST-83
      @ST-83 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CieloChic I'd say get your inspiration from Dolce&gabbana suits if you want to look more feminine or Armani 1990s fitted style suits if you want to look more formal, but keep your blouse/top very feminine, soft and not frilly. Or you can choose satin suits, with a destructurated blazer look, that run soft and long on the body but still keep you elegant and sofisticated

  • @Laurynesse
    @Laurynesse ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Finally, the Flamboyant Natural! As usually, I love how you point out small details: I couldn't find right words to describe why high round neckline looks weird on FN - and that example of "an aduде woman wearing a little girly dress" is so precise!
    Aly, could you please talk more about prints and their relation with the body type? Usually, prints are a part of colour theory, and sometimes recommendations from just one perspective are not enough or contradict those of another one. As with watercolour prints: they are considered perfect for the Summer types, but if a person is a FN in Kibbie, it seems they need to reconsider such prints.

    • @chunkysanni5093
      @chunkysanni5093 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I know what you mean. I am also FN (i guess) and a Summer Type (on the lighter and softer side) and i can't wear bold big patterns or very contrasted patterns. But very small patterns also don't work. They always have to be blurred, blended or low to maybe medium contrast. I also use watercolour prints or umbra prints, but because of my more prominent facial features like prominent nose, which likes to create shadows within my face, i keep the watercolour prints not TOO light and soft. I have a very long dress with an umbra pattern and i feel it looks whole, when i combine it with a little contrasting shoe, summer coat or other accessoires. And i really like to combine everything with bolder silver jewelry. Sometimes silver combined with bolder irregular pearls.
      And i think high round necklines look so weird, because our shoulderline is wider or broader and then the neck seems to be "caught" in some way. And although i think my neck is more slim than broad, maybe it's broader in comparison to other IDs like Gamines and just looks to strong for such collars. Really like a head of a turtle then. 😅Same goes for the rest of the torso. Even though my ribcage is not that broad, i have width from shoulders and more chest. Maybe more the "Curvy Flamboyant Natural" but still FN by 1,75m.

      The problem with dresses is that the majority of those in the shops actually are high-waisted, or look high-waisted on a tall person, making the chest look bigger and shoulders wider... :( can't really find a dress that would suit me...

    Ally ypu can’t imagine how amazing has been this video for me. I live in a horrible humid and hot weather, so basically an endless summer 😂, all the do’s and don’ts you’re saying are amazingly true 😮. Im in shook! I mean, I always guess that I’m a FN, but thanks to this I can be 100% sure and finally I can understand why I couldn’t look my best, for example, in very high waist pants/jeans, shorts to shorts and cropped, v neck and small sleeves tshirts. Well I am very clear that I'm a flamboyant natural I really struggle when it comes to jeans because of my weight. I'm always told that we look best in jeans but because most of my weight is centered at my belly it makes it very difficult for me to wear mid-rise and low rise jeans. I feel like high-rise is the only option because everything else on me looks pretty sloppy in my personal opinion. At this point now I really given up on jeans and I'm sticking to dresses and skirts because they are far more forgiving.

      @naomiwhiffen9791 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am a FN who wants to be cute and adorable too! Some ideas is to use Kibbe shapes (for example a top that gives enough room in the shoulders, maybe showing off the collar bones paired with a long skirt, long wavy hair) but using pretty colors like soft pink & lilac. Or you can do a mini skirt option with an oversized sweater on top (the legs act as the vertical) with some chunky shoes which can be very cutesy! I always do soft pink long acrylic nails - I find I feel very cute & pretty with them, and rather than accentuating the width and shortness of my hands it elongates my fingers and looks good.

    I wish I could just figure out if Im FN or SN without posting myself on Reddit 😂 I think FN body types are closest to mine but i never see that verticality in myself. In terms of limb length I'm more moderate, and I am more fleshy than lean, but SN recommendations look so, idk, basic on me?
    I guess what Im asking is, if Jennifer Lawrence had slightly shorter legs would she be typed a SN? Because she's exactly my body type and I think she radiates FN energy.

    • @a24-45
      @a24-45 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My impression is that any body type which is Soft naturally has a noticeable pronounced bust which is D cup or larger. I'm a C cup so my bust is just average and therefore I'm not Soft. Judging from her beach photos, Jennifer Lawrence looks like she has a medium/average bust (remember that most celebs are wearing padded bras a lot of the time, you have to find the pics of her in a non-padded bikini bra!) so I would rule her out as a Soft. I agree she is a FN, she's just not the type that has the sinewy defined calves and upper arms. I think the musclier FNs are actually in the minority of FNs.

    So FN can have hips?
    I ruled out this type for me, because I’m only 172 cm, and have hips. I thought N were straight hipped. Hmmm.

    I look slim like i could wear S size but i'm actually L size, my rib cage is wide with no waist definition, short torso with big breasts, jeans fit tight on my waist but my hips are swimming inside, always need to try on the clothes to make sure i get some balance

    Not lushly curvy, but some curves (no matter the weight). now 5'7" but 15 years ago (and all of adult life) was 5'8 1/2". Don't look very lengthy in limbs, have average length legs for height but have quite short arms. Definitely pear shape. So what am I? Soft Natural styles seem to look best on me, but aren't I too tall?

  • @gbosonnet
    @gbosonnet ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm stuck as I'm 171 cm, have broad blunt shoulders, I look athletic. I'm definitely a natural type. But despite being tall, I don't look tall because I have a long torso and short legs with quite thick thighs. I think I'm more of a soft natural but at nearly 5 foot 8 that's not correct as per kibbe. You ladies got any ideas?

    • @evolili4245
      @evolili4245 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noticeably long torso shows elongation, which SN usually does not have. So FN, D, SD would maybe be more likely or even DC (look at D Keira Knightley for instance, you can see how elongated her torso is). Gaining weight on the lower body is also typical for yang! If you don't feel like FN lines look harmonious, maybe try out D or DC lines too😊

    • @bewinca
      @bewinca ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here, I have broad shoulders, longish torso, thick thighs, fleshy face and I'm 5 foot 8 too. But the descriptions of D, FN, and SD just don't fit me at all. Too much width and bluntness for D, too soft and short legged for FN, not curvy enough for SD. Even if I'm "too tall" for SN, it's the only one that makes sense to me. All of Aly's suggestions for SN style laws were spot on for me, and these FN recommendations less so. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So I'm going with all the other factors being in my favor for SN and not worrying too much about the height technicality.

      @bewinca sounds exactly like me. I cam do FN clothes well but SN works a little better

    I still wavering between Flamb. natural and dramatic classic, is there a sure way to make distinction?

    • @katemaconeil7087
      @katemaconeil7087 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Flamboyant Natural are elongated and wide, Dramatic Classic are balanced, slightly elongated and more narrow. If you are over 5’8 you are probably not Dramatic Classic.
      FN look good in sweeping long bold and oversized clothes, DC look good in moderate sharp outfit. I feel like a good indicator would be hair : if big tousled long hair looks better than clean hair then you might be FN.
      I get why you might be confused but in term of clothing recommendations both are pretty different, I suggest you to try different silhouette and I see what you think is best for you. Hope it helps

    • @solidfever01
      @solidfever01 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Try out the lines for each! Dramatic classics need tailoring - naturals often look quite suffocated in tailored garments.

      @@katemaconeil7087 Thanks. I am 5.7 with long thin limbs and always preferred big hair and low cut neck, so I thought FN. but recently noticed that higher cut neck and more tailoring does not look as bad on me, as I thought that made me wonder. Thanks again.

      @@rawdriaAt 5’7 you are either a D, a FN or a SD. DCs can’t be taller than 5’5. If sharpness looks really good on you, look into Dramatics.

    What I love about Kibbe's system is that he recommends mirroring the qualities of our bone structure in our dress. While your recommendations match his, the fact that you often present them in terms of "correction" makes me kind of sad!

      Maybe you say that because she shows examples of what « not to wear »? I find it very helpful! And most of the time it confirms what I already knew but didn’t want to admit to myself. A garment can be pretty but I need to ask myself: does it make ME pretty? Thought I’d bring my thoughts on this because I’ve seen other comments saying Aly is too judgy, but I’d like to thank her for giving her honest advice!
