The last little tidbit about feeling like you are swinging to the right, but in reality it is creating a square down the line shot is gold. Most of us amateurs have been swinging out to the right with hands and arms with little body rotation. Those are nightmare swings. I figured this out on my own, but it is awesome to have someone explain it well!
Wow. A game changer for me! Never felt right about my driver till this big hip turn move. And I love how you already anticipated the open club face and corrects for that as well. Thank you!
Been following your videos and member of TSG. The most unique thing that comes out of Clay's videos are the repeated slow motion things along with sensor data. The slow motion angle from behind is really great. Hope to see more innovative production of your golf videos.
this drill was highlighted in Jack Nicklaus’s 1982 book “The Full Swing” ..Marry Your Left Arm to your Left Side. Quote “this drill gives me best sensation of completely releasing the clubhead and fully extending my left arm and the clubshaft through the ball that I have yet discovered in 34 years of playing golf. Give this drill a try. It could make golf a whole different game”. Bill P., the Villages, Florida
Going to the simulator this morning and can't wait to try this (keeping left arm tight to my chest). I've been pushing my driver right lately, obviously not opening up my body. Thanks, Clay. Always great advise. Keep up the good work.
Great video. I feel like the key "separation" is between my body and my arms and club, or my body turns first which connects my upper left arm to my chest as my arms swing thru behind my body rotating. So I feel like I don't consciously separate my hips and shoulders its just the body is everything below my arms and shoulders turning together I don't have to consciously rotate my hips in front of my sternum just turn your body with your left arm tight to your pec and the body will naturally sequence everything correctly.
This is good video, my only comment is don't let the club head trail and get stuck behind. I see this a lot when golfers focus too much on left shoulder. The arms/hands has to move with the left should rotation. If you get stuck, it will force you to use your wrist more to catchup and hit fat shots with irons or push the balls right. This is why I like having both armpits tucked during rotation like towel in armpits drill. This help arms move along and not get club head stuck behind.
Great video, is it a good idea to keep the shoulders closed at the beginning of the transition to insure a in to out path, thanks for the insightful content
I think your videos are great and you explain things very well... the problem I have is I can do what you say slowly or in my practice swing but as soon as I go for a full swing it goes out the window and my body seems to do what it wants and not what the brain is telling it to do.. :(
Love your videos, and as a fellow East Ky guy, you've made us proud here. I believe being open at impact is great advice for most golfers. But as a reasonably fit 50 year old with chronic low back problems, turning my body that aggressively hurts my back. I've maintained a 5 HC for years with an arms dominated swing that has me more square at impact but without much club head speed. Drive it only 230 on average. Any advice for guys in my situation who have to make some modifications to avoid injury? A little more distance and less reliance on timing would be great.
Hey Brent, if you're' looking for more distance then I recommend working through our 20 Minute Distance Fix program. People of all ages and abilities are gaining tons of distance on this program. I watched Peter Thompson's video (R.I.P) and he said something very interesting. That on the backswing the shoulder and upper chest moves down and I noticed on the downswing, the right shoulder moves down and thru. Conversely, when the right shoulder lowers on the downswing, the left shoulder must rise. Watching your swing, this is exactly what happens.
@Steve King Your spine angle determines the axis of rotation of your shoulders. Clay has videos about this. If you think about shoulders going up and down you'll end up chunking and topping the ball.
I've been watching your helpful videos for a long time. I noticed that lately you're catching your breath more often than in previous years. Chill, relax and see a Dr.
Hi Chen, thanks for your interest. We do offer swing reviews as an additional service to our All Access Members. Hi Steve, this is due to ground force. Clay is putting so much force into the ground that he is actually jumping a little bit. You'll see this in players like Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
That white boy ain't even tryin ... Y'all see that? He swinging all arms and still be smashin it 250...No wonder they be callin him "Big Swoll, Da Golfin Gangsta" 😂😂😂 A.B.S.A., you guys are on a roll Clay. All Top Speed stuff is the shit, but these last vids have been supremely helpful, thanx boyz 🍻⛳💪

Thanks! My pleasure!
Didn't start seeing your videos until winter. I really look forward to putting many of your techniques into practice.
Thanks!
Good one Clay. Going to try that tomorrow morning! Thanks.

Thx for the tip with the biceps against the chest. I’ll try that asap. Great videos overall, Clay. Please keep going like this!

Great video Clay... Thank you!!
Thanks!
I needed this. I must have planted the seed when I asked you a couple of weeks ago why I was hitting low hooks off the tee. You're welcome. 😉
Haha...this video was shot more than a month ago so we must be psychic. 😂 Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

I need to watch this video again; too mesmerized by the beard the 1st time!
haha😂
Great video, is it a good idea to keep the shoulders closed at the beginning of the transition to insure a in to out path, thanks for the insightful content
Thanks! Yeah, your shoulders will be closed in the transition but opening up into impact.

Hey Matt, you gotta break it down and go slow at first then build up the speed.

Haha...thanks!
I do this every time I swing a driver. Maybe even with my irons. This explains why I can't drive far even I hit the sweet spot with nice sounds
Hope the video helps
Do these concepts apply to irons aswell?
Yes
Excellent teaching!! But I am 70 and have lost a lot of flexibility and really struggle with this Do you have any pointers for the aged golfer. :)
Thanks Dan! The same thing applies to you. Your version just may look different than someone who is flexible. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Clay...could i send a video in for you to point out my problem?

I noticed you are up on your toes of both feet at impact. Please explain.
Hi Steve, this is due to ground force. Clay is putting so much force into the ground that he is actually jumping a little bit. You'll see this in players like Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay ...should we be on our left foot's toes at impact ??
You'll be more in your heel most likely. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
