My dad went through the same thing when he was my age, only back then you couldn’t return mattresses. Everyone in the family got a hand-me-down, barely-used mattress. I still have one in my guest room (I cut this story out of the video).
This is the video I didn't know I needed - THANK YOU. Out of curiosity, how come you didn't go for the i10? Would that extra layer of cushion have avoided the tempurpedic layer?

Possibly, but (A) I didn't think I'd need the extra layer and (B) it was another $1500 (versus $150 for the topper).
