    Ahh, Tannoy Little Reds! Great to see these lovely studio monitors from 1980 getting the love they deserve. You’ll could toss these baby’s in a room an they sounded more than decent quickly. Yours seem to be in good nick while most of them where used pretty hard.
    Did you know that their advertisement in ‘79 stated; “After 53 years of research and development, Tannoy is proud to present its Studio Monitor range.’ 😂

    Tannoy was really onto something with their coaxial drivers. Probably the best sounding as far as response and handling.

    wow you are so lucky where on earth did you get them from, I worked in hifi retail 1975-1980 in Birmingham we sold the then Tannoy range of domestic dual concentric speakers Ardens, Berkleys, Cheviots, Devons, Eatons. The one you have would have been the Eatons, we sold loads they flew out the door very popular speakers, the Cheviots wwere my favourites performance v size

      Yep, nice little speakers. I get most of my stuff from eBay - you just need to be patient and be prepared to drive far away if you really like something.

    Hi, great vid and just finished reading your full review. Nice work!
    Just wondering, would you advise adding a sub to extend the lower bass and soundstage? Do you think it will lessen the "listening fatigue" by adding a sub?
    Cheers!

    • @AudioNostalgia
      @AudioNostalgia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Thanks for your kind words. At the time of the review I did not have much experience with subs. Now, having played with subs multiple times and integrating them via digital crossover (MiniDSP SHD) I would definitely try adding subs with these speakers. And to answer your question, yes, I think this would balance them better and make them easier to enjoy for longer.

    I always thought Tannoys in general sounded a bit harshin the highs in a lot of recording studios I was in the 80s. Was I wrong?

    • @AudioNostalgia
      @AudioNostalgia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on what sound you are used to and what room they are in. But in general, I'd probably agree with you.

      Ya,aha NS-1000 was a standard back then, mostly for broadast, but for reording The Tannoy's was better,.

    Are they better than harbeth super hl5?

    • @AudioNostalgia
      @AudioNostalgia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Harbeth SHL5 are probably a lot more tonally accurate and defiantly have better low end extension, but there is something alluring about the sound of these Tannoys - especially how they reproduce guitars. I don't think I can answer your question as it is all very subjective. Personally, if I could only have one pair of speakers I'd definitely pick the SHL5s.

      @@AudioNostalgia thank you very much, I am planning to buy a second hand Yamaha CD-S2000. What is your feedback of the player? All these days I was using Denon DVD-A1UD and I moved this player to my HT room. I use Musical Fidelity A308CR pre-amp and F16 power-amp for music listening. I am trying to understand if the Yamaha CD-S2000 has a equivalent performance like the Denon DVD-A1UD. I listen to Jazz mostly...there is very less reviews on the Yamaha CD-S2000 on the WWW and I am not able to decide.

    • @AudioNostalgia
      @AudioNostalgia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeshavaRaju08021980Friday I'm afraid I cannot help you much as I don't have any experience with Denon DVD-A1UD. I also use the Yamaha CD-S2000 with a Chord Qutest DAC, which is going to have an impact on the sound. All I can say is that I've had this player for 13 years now, and apart from the SACD laser stopping to work, I've not had any issues with it what so ever.

    So I found three of Tannoy DC12i for $500. It almost seems like the same woofer and tweeter as this. Just ugly. But I’m thinking of getting them to a good woods man and giving them a look like this

    • @AudioNostalgia
      @AudioNostalgia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if it's worth the effort. Veneering and making cabinets is usually time consuming, and therefore expensive. So depending where you live, it may actually be cheaper to get a genuine set of Tannoy LGM rather than trying to make the DC12i look like them.
