    AMC selling their own candy is a stroke of genius! If the candy is cheaper and just tastes slightly less than main brands , it is a winner!

    This is basically exactly what every single retail store chain does (Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) and it has proven to be successful, however to be successful you do still need to keep counterpart items available to some degree so that people can visibly SEE the price differences so that they can decide which way to go. If done right, I can see this working out well for them.

  • @ImDougDimmadome
    @ImDougDimmadome ปีที่แล้ว +8

    That last point was interesting.
    It would be kinda cool if AMC puts out limited run batches of candy/chips/drinks in collaboration with movies and only have it be available while the film is still showing in theaters.
    I’m not talking about packaging either, I’m talking about flavors that go along and make sense with whatever film that’s being collaborated with.

      This is the type of creative thinking they need more of. Theatres should try to get people even more excited to go to see a movie besides the movie itself.

    If theaters sold their generic brand candy at or very close to dollar store prices then I would buy it. I'm not paying $5 for a box of chocolate covered raisins.

  • @austin323la

    Theater candy is the same candy I sell at my store, most of the candy costs me .92 cents a box . And when I factor in the 33% mark up it comes out to sell for 1.39 per box of candy. Charging 6dollars for a box of raisin nets is outrageous! Factor in a fountain drink, each soda cost them plus the cup lid and star 20 to 25 cents. Naw they ain’t hurting they just being a lil to greedy.

For the kids pack it's not Welch's anymore, its amc fruit snacks.... gotta say they are better than the Welch's used to be and I totally would buy them in a bigger bag. “Don’t sneak in candy, candy sales are how movie theaters survive!” the candy prices are outrageous. If you don’t want people to sneak in candy, give people an incentive not to. People go to the movies to see MOVIES. How is it our fault if your business model sucks?

    • @Jsmooth1174
      @Jsmooth1174 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right?! If the prices were slightly higher, I’d be willing to purchase for the convenience. But if it cost nearly double what I can get it for right outside the theater then I’m going to buy it elsewhere.
      For them to charge those outrageous rates, they’d really need to do something extraordinary through their service or other incentives (ie. but 5 boxes and get another free) to make it appealing to purchase there.

    AMC selling it's own branded candy is like being forced to pick the gas station branded candy. It's just not the same as an actual brand like Mike&Ike and Sour Patch. Maybe they start small and feature their brand next to the other brands. AMC brand candy better be banging if I'm gonna sit through and film and eat it.

    it is a very good idea actually. 'store brands' are actually made by the same manufacturers as the name brands. that means, yes, we do pay a lil extra (a lot extra) for the brand name. fortunately, grocery stores have already conditioned us to buy store branded items. now merchandise the amc brand next to the name brand; once the consumer sees the price difference, BINGO!! now can the amc brand gain distribution in grocery? that is another story.

  • @glennbrown2704
    @glennbrown2704 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It has potential. The price would have to be discounted by at least 25% off the name brand. Grocery store chains sell their own store brand items right next to the brand names.

    At the prices that movie theaters charge for food and drink, they are definitely keeping more than 30%-40%. Aquafina isn't charging $5+ for 20 ounce bottles of water wholesale. And to John's point at the end of the video, I highly doubt AMC is going to reduce prices for the consumers after this is implemented. Why would they? They're trying to save money. That's the entire reason for doing this in the first place. They're not going to turn around and say, "oh, lets give that money that we saved by making our own candy and pass it along to our customers."

    First I don't think they paid anymore for the candy than any other retail business does. Second they simply don't have the economy of scale that say Hershey, Mars, and Nestle' have so I can't believe they can make the candy with the same ingredients for the less. Almost certainly AMC will go to some knockoff company that makes candy with the names of Supermarkets and Drug Store chains (examples Kroger or Walgreens). Instead of those names they will have AMC on the packaging.

      @@stevebragg4256 yeah it's probably due to low staff in my area. Sometimes there's only one person selling tickets with a dozen of people in line
      As long as you're not bringing in boxes of pizza for everyone, they tend to let you pass.

    Cinemark does the same, it’s about $2 cheaper though. Not dollar store levels lol

    I’ll wait until the stub members get free candy to try and give it their review. Until then I’m gonna eat the Whatchamacallit in my pocket.

    All they'd have to do is make candy with actual sugar in it like every country other than the US, and their candy would be good. That high fructose corn syrup shit we have is disgusting. 🤮

    AMC has Perfectly Popcorn exclusively at Walmart.
    It tastes like movie popcorn, honestly even better.
    They have per-popped and now microwaveable popcorn.
    I'm an $AMC APE & I will buy their candy, popcorn & what else they have coming down the line!
    $AMC to da moon! 💎🙌🦍🚀🌕
